Re: Official NCAA Football 10 Demo Impressions

After a couple times of running through the demo, I am not overly impressed. The pursuit angles are fixed and that is a plus but the gameplay still feel as twitchy as NCAA09. They fix the late option pitches which is a plus.

Robo kicker is still in effect as the CPU controlled UF kicker nailed a 56yd FG and 54yd FG. Rocket catches are. Still. In the game. Their are some nice new animations but the game is by and large pretty similar to NCAA 09.

      Good

-Right off the bat I noticed that the crowd is a hell of a lot louder this year. It sounds like I could be in the stadium

-Lighting looks fantastic, colors are more vibrant, it looks crisp and has that new feel (of course)

-Bowl endzones, nets, and camera flashes are all nice touches (camera flashes must be toned down though for regular season games)

-New animations are great - errant passes, over the shoulder catches, new tackles, throwing while being hit are all cool to see

-Stat banners (like on TV) have finally made it back... Score bug looks really slick (I love the font and modern theme they used)

-Band at beginning was cool, but I'd rather see them at half time for next year since we should be getting some type of pregame warm ups

-Game planning is an interesting addition, and I wish I could have more time to mess with it (same goes for "link" plays...not so sure about this addition yet) I used the aggressive settings for offense and committed several turnovers.. I'll have to set it a different way and see if this changes

-The injury system along with the decision to either play/sit them is great

-Finally nice to see penalties called

-Mix & Match is my favorite addition hands down

-New camera angles are a welcomed addition, along with the bright & bold play art on the field

      Bad

-Presentation is lacking big time. This is college football. This is the national championship. How is there is no National Anthem, team entrances, pregame breakdown, warm ups, or halftime show? And I thought teams usually celebrate & accept the ADT trophy after winning the title... Where is the confetti, the emotion, the pandemonium, gatorade baths, etc. These are all musts for 2011

-More presentation elements... Refs, Chain gangs, new equipment are all missing

-Players sliding, collision problems, players diving for a tackle and sliding off other teammates

-AI Running (at one point DeMarco Murray ran backwards).. Twitch running is a huge problem still. All these things have made the game feel way too fast, arcade-like, and chaotic

-Throwing animations need a lot of work. On top of this, adding throwing styles couldn't hurt

-Running animations for fast players look awful. High knees all the way again. Please adjust this for 11. The nice running animations come from the slower players.. Jermaine Greishem (spelling ?) had a nice catch and run, and it looked great since he was a slower player.. I think if the speed was tuned we also see improvement here

-Ball physics are practically non existent. It feels like throwing a rock

-No sense of weight with players. Everyone runs around without having to lean, balance, or slow down

-User O-Line is dominant with the CPU D-Line hardly able to get pressure on the QB. I was able to get decent pressure with my D-Line, but not as much as I would have liked. This area needs more play time to see how its been changed

      Conclusion

After playing the demo, I will only be renting this game at some point down the road because there are just too many holes (again) to warrant a purchase this year. The game looks great visually, but the core flaws just kill anything that was added & are going to take away from its replayability.

After Madden comes out, this game will be a distant memory for me, but I will be looking to help with NCAA 11 as much as possible. Whats necessary for NCAA 11 to win fans back is massive gameplay fixes, tweaked animations (Run/Throw), presentation overhaul, and more of the little things (equipment, refs, etc.)

      My 2 cents.

      nice post!

If the kicking system is the same, it will be the same automatic FG's.

Why was the 3 button system removed from the last gen? When you had a bad kicker, the meter went nuts and it was hard to get a good kick away.

A money fg kicker from 45 yards to 53 yards should be a rarity no a commonplace.
Exactly, lowering FG ACC and FG LGTH only helps USER's miss FGs short. Not really left/right and the wind really has no effect. There really is no suspense or anxiety when kicking FGs... which sucks... especially in tight games and/or game winning situations.

To those who have played... Answer me this:

I have heard that running is tough. Did Ncaa 10 adopt the "pushing sprint attracts defenders" issue from Madden 09? I think that could be EA's new solution to running. I did not like it though as you saw DLinemen breaking out of their blocks as you attempted to run by.

Trust me, as someone who rushed home from work at lunch in pure excitement to play this game, it is not worth it

I think we're all going to have to wait until NCAA 2011 to get the game we were all hoping for from 10.

Ok, I can't confirm because there is no instant replay in the demo, but it sure feels like they implemented the Madden cheat.

I had scrambled around the edge on a sneak with Tebow, only to see a DE shed his blocker and track me down- even with a 5 yard lateral head start I had no chance.

The biggest issue with running is that the game moves WAY too fast to be able to effectively identify and then hit a hole. It's just complete chaos after the snap on offense because of the game speed.

I'm loving this demo; I'm loving the pocket. The speed at which the QBs throw the ball is too fast, but this is definitely not a rehash of 09 with updated rosters.

Considering that NCAA 10 is just something to hold me over until madden 10 drops, I couldn't be happier. This just goes to show you that you can't jugde a game by the videos that are posted on the internet.

This makes Madden 10 look even more promising; it's obvious with all of the features that are going to be in madden 10 that haven't made it into NCAA 10, that if I like the fee to this demo, I'm going to love madden 10.

Ok, this really pissed me off. So I had the running gameplay on aggressive all game (for those who don't know it increases the chance of breaking tackles but also increases fumbles). Down 10-7 with 40 seconds left, I was inside their redzone. I put the running on conservative to ensure I'd at least get a FG and put it into OT (hadn't turned the ball over all game). The FIRST PLAY AFTER I put it on conservative I fumble while on my way to pay dirt. Effing ANNOYING!!!!!

That's not just a M09 thing, it's been that way in every Madden/NCAA since the first ps2 versions.

Why do people say I will not be buying this game only renting? What are you going to get out of a 5 day rental?

Hmm.. I don't remember the running thing in the PS2 versions and I KNOW it wasn't in next gen before 09. I hear they picked it up from 2k believe it or not. Don't know how true that is, but it does nerf running quite a bit. My problem is that the general public does not know about it and just thinks running is impossible.
