Re: Official NCAA Football 10 Demo Impressions

I was pleasantly suprised by the demo. It looks pretty good and feels quite a bit slower than last year. Also, I don't know if anyone else saw a play like this and don't feel like reading through 45 pages, but when I was on defense, my CPU-controlled DT made it to Bradford as he throwing a screen pass, the ball made it only a few yards, where it was intercepted by my end and taken in for an easy six. I've never seen a play like that in the NCAA series and it looked really smooth and unforced.

both consoles have horrible replays....on the 360 the replays have frame rate issues and there is none on the ps3

but the ps3 replays suck because when a qb throws the ball it looks like the ball is coming out of his shoulder...

graphics dont look great either on 360 but is sharper and it does not have the horrible blur affect that ps3 suffers from

        gameplay wise they are identical
Lol, well it wouldn't surprise me if EA's NCAA team just doesn't know how to put out a good demo...

Re: Official NCAA Football 10 Demo Impressions

After playing my most recent game on Heisman playing as Oklahoma...some notes:

*Opening kickoff, Florida returned it to the house on me

*the gameplay is slower than last year. Took me a half(4 minutes) to get used to the change of pace. I like that its slower this year vs previous years.

*Pass rush does need work as I couldn't put one together. I did get to Tebow probably 5 or 6 times(1 sack 3 hurries) and those came when I changed my gameplan for my D-Line to jump the snap. It seems that JTS is going to be critical to getting to the QB.

*the cpu had no trouble getting to me as I was sacked 5 times. 4 of those 5, I had less than 4 secs I'd say to get rid of the ball. I was only able to get to my second read before I was under pressure.

*The running game is solid this year. The cpu ran effectively, I ran effectively, and we both had some runs that were shut down. Liking the running game.

*Tebow missed 3 guys on streak routes that were a step or two past my defender. Twice he over threw them, once threw the ball out of bounds. Also, he missed an open receiver in the endzone by throwing it too high. Glad to see.

*Pursuit angles being fixed is a huge plus this year. Loved seeing guys cut runners off and take the proper angles.

*Florida missed its only field goal try of 43 yds. Pushed it wide right.

*I drew Fla offsides twice in my game.

*not sure whats up with the snaps going over the QB's head being ruled incomplete passes. I hope thats just a demo hiccup and doesn't find its way into the final build.

*Love the endzone art. Nothing big I know, but finally bowl games are different.

*Commentary stinks. Ok, it doesn't stink, but its stale. Not sure if there were new lines in there or not, as I quickly tuned them out.

*Atmosphere and presentation need to be one of the top priorities next year. The game is "lifeless". I do like Tebow doing the Gator Chomp and guys celebrating, but TD's are lonely and the crowd is monotone for the most part.

*The WR/DB jostling is nice. Didn't see too much of it(running for my life at QB!), but what little bit I saw, it was a step in the right direction.

*CPU throwing deep equals me going... LOL

Thats all I have for now, sorry its not broken down into positive/negative, but I'm lazy.

Actually, I do have a question for ya... are the PS3 replays still compressed, so the ball doesn't spin on passes, etc?
Let me re-phrase my answer since ~Guru~ answered differently. I didn't see the ball rotating during replays. The strings were at the top of the ball and never rolled over when I was viewing replays. Maybe its hit or miss...don't know, but its one thing that I looked for.

Well this saved me some money. Not liking this at all. The game is very ugly to start on PS3 (not what you expect from a nex gen game) The blur and slowdown don't help either. The demo is very limited, a lot of the controls are locked out. Why lock out controls? Defense is a lost cause. I don't feel like I have any control on D. There no pass rush again. Some of the animations are screwed up. The QB looks like he's throwing the ball from his shoulder not his hand. Also the replay camera is god awful. I know I sound harsh, but this is feels ridiculously dated.

Ugh, say it isn't so... I love being able to watch replays. This may decide the purchase for me.

I do not understand how on these extremely powerful current gen systems, suddenly the replays are all f'd up. Seriously, sometimes it just makes me wonder, "how bad IS this dev team???"

Very frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the impressions though...

Re: Official NCAA Football 10 Demo Impressions

Ok, I'm back. Here we go. First off, it seems as if they're utilizing the Madden 09 engine but with more polish. The game feels more.....crispy/visceral (I cant come up with any better words) it just FEELS crisp now. NCAA has always felt soft to me in regards to tackles and contact or what not. Its more visceral now, like Madden. +1

The over the shoulder catches are a nice addition. If a WR gets a step or two on you off of the line, its a wrap. I love to isolate myself at the CB position, no swapping players before or during the play, so its going to be intense for me covering some of these wideouts. +1

The coach cam is jacked up. It goes into blimp mode. I aint feeling that. They should have kept it where it stays on the field but pulls back a tid bit, like previous versions. -1

Penalties seem more dynamic. SEEMS as if they'll happen in a more realistic manner. +1

Absolutely NO presentation. Ok, we have the band at the beginning but that's just no where near enough. I'm figuring since NCAA is always a step behind Madden, that 2011 will be NCAAs presentation blowout. -1

Oklahomas LE is a lil ole beast I must say. No line pressure? I have to disagree with those who say that. I was getting smashed. Line play seems to be much improved. +1

Little details like bad snaps and of course more animations which you cant help but love. +1

Looking forward to July14th. I'm feelin the demo. If this is NCAA, boy oh boy, I'm feindin for Madden.

Off of the demo. I'd give em a solid 8 right now. Never get higher from me until they put some real presentation in.

Re: Official NCAA Football 10 Demo Impressions

My take: This game isn't good. Absolutely FUNDAMENTAL parts of football have still not been properly addressed, now four years into the current generation of consoles. Man coverage, blocking schemes and physics/momentum are all laughable at this point. These are issues of extreme importance that should have been attended to before even so much as a minute was spent on Season Showdown, Road to Glory, Mascot Games, Mascot Celebrations, "Gameplanning", QB Quiz, etc. etc.

I've been playing some of my older PS2 games lately (mostly Madden 06) and while not perfect, that gameplay engine is a step and a half above the current one. I'm now of the opinion that EA either needs to scrap the engine and build from the ground up, or else make some MAJOR changes to the core of the gameplay.

I've bought NCAA on release day every year since NCAA Football 2002 for PS2. And this year I'm probably just gonna GameFly it. Sad.

PS - Is the camera zoomed farther back after passes are released this year? It seems harder to user catch/pick.

Do you guys complain about everything? The game looks fine on the PS3, I saw no jaggies. The game played smoothly. It felt a lot like Madden, which is a major plus. The passing game was much more realistic. The lack of a pass rush is kind of disappointing but it's fine.

on the PS3 why won't they make the ball rotate? Its not a major complaint and does absolutlely nothing to affect the gameplay, I just find it odd that the ball looks like its a frozen rope.

Just from fartin' around with it...it seems that gameplanning is going to be a necessity this year. I'm liking it. For example:

Florida was dinking and dunking the ball on a drive that started at their own 3 yard line. I then went to gameplan, told my DB's to play tighter in man and whadda know, I was swatting passes, jumping routes, playing better man coverage.

Also, I find that I'm getting better pressure on Tebow when they are in obvious passing downs and I tell my DL to jump the snap. Cheesy? Maybe, but its working. Sacked him on back to back plays...

It definitely is. I think that once we get used to it shouldn't be too bad. I'm assuming we don't have the option of using the classic camera angle.

The running game has frustrated me. For one, DeMarco Murray must be made of glass because he's gotten injured in every game I've played so far. This might be the result of the running backs being completely destroyed on ever play. Really having a tough time running between and outside the tackles.

Oh, and I won the 2nd game 7-3 due to ball control in the 2nd half. I ran the ball down their throats, ran PA pass to keep 'em honest, and was first and goal with 20secs to play, when I handed the ball to the fullback and let him score!

                                I'm really feeling this game.
