On the Verge: Not a Rebuild But Not Yet a Power Schools

Ole Miss might be easier to achive, but the list is an "on the verge" list. I have a rebuild list wich you can view here: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...ball-25-a.html

Next week, I'll be doing a middle tier list that will have more programs with longer to go but the point of this one was schools that aren't powers yet but you won't have to work as hard to get them there. Hope that helps you get what I was going for.

I know, but I guess we have a difference of opinion on ‘the verge’. To me, Ole Miss has been a pretty strong program under Kiffin and I don’t think winning a national title is the thing to get them over the hump. I think the same of Oregon, which is why I disagreed with that poster. Oregon is one of 4 teams to have a winning record against all of their conference opponents over the last 25 years. With Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Alabama. Being on that list alone I think makes us a top tier program, even though we haven’t won the national championship. That’s literally the only thing we have left to accomplish lol. I just used Ole Miss as another example of me disagreeing.

I think on the verge programs would be teams like NC State, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, etc. who have been consistently 8-9 win teams but haven’t really been part of a national conversation in awhile. I guess I don’t really consider 3-4 teams on your list to be of that ilk. That’s all. My main issue wasn’t so much with your list, as much as it was with the implication that Oregon should be on it (which you didn’t imply). Because yes, I am a homer.

Ole Miss hasn't won a conference title since the early 60s. They are the only SEC West school to never make the SEC title game. They've never made the playoffs or the BCS.

And even under Kiffin he's gone -5-5 (COVID Season), 10-3, 8-5 (after starting 7-0 they went 1-5 down the stretch.), 11-2. No SEC title game births. A lot of hype for them going into the season, hence the on the verge. But they've never broken through. Until they do, they are a verge team through and through. That might change after this season but that's where they stand currently.

Agree to disagree. No worries. I also disagree with others on your list, so it is what it is. That's the beauty of discourse.

The way that I look at things is a video game rebuild doesn’t line up with real life. Basically everyone moves up a notch bc it’s easier to win a title in a video game than real life.

But either way it’s fun to talk about the teams to rebuild regardless of the category you put them in

I'll be putting together my "middle of the pack" list. Definitely want to see what you think of that one as well. Disagreements are great when they are civil like this one has been. Thank you for reading and listening to my reasonings as well.
