Anyone else have issues with custom playbooks crashing when trying to sort by concept/play type? I don't feel like setting the frequency for 500 plays to show up in the coach's pick or whatever but I can't scroll through plays otherwise.

I pick by personnel and it’s never crashed. Rarely (less than once per game) I’ve looked at by concept and it hasn’t crashed (but again, I hardly search like that).

IMO any custom playbook without Wildcat Unbalanced, Jet Sweep, is incomplete.

I've crashed at least 7 or 8 times. But mine has crashed when I kept trying to auto put every play from the Shotgun Spread formation in (it only accepts 50 of the 94 plays) and then trying to work on my gameplan ratings. I feel like I know now what not to do to trigger a crash. I have also reported all my crashes.

Does anyone know how many plays you can have in your gameplan under each situation? I want to say it's 30 but I don't know if that's correct. And if you don't manually enter the full number of plays, do other plays get automatically added?

Has anyone found a workaround for ordering formations and plays? I am trying to install the same offense I ran in NCAA 14, old school 90s Nebraska two back run heavy/option football but from pistol and gun. The Spread-I. The same offense I came up in in real life, but a big part of that offense in NCAA 14 was how I had it organized and the total lack of organization in 25 is killing me.

My offense is formation driven. Relatively few concepts, inside zone, outside zone, counter, trap, toss and some screens, RPOs and play action off those base run concepts but I do it from a wide variety of formations to get the ball to different positions and stress the defense different ways. That is especially important since there are no formation subs in 25 but at last count I had 28 gun formations, 8 pistol and 2 wildcat.

In a perfect world, my formations would be ordered by personnel, with heavier 22 personnel formations at the top, then 21, 20, 12, 11, 10 and Empty. Then each formation would be base runs, special runs (if any), play action, drop back, screens. From what I can tell, all formations and plays in custom playbooks order themselves in the order they are listed in the menu, which is completely nonsensical.

For example, I have the four Gun Duo formations in my offense in 25, but two of them are together at the very beginning of the playbook and the other two are in the middle with 10 formations in between them. The three Split formations in my playbook, which I want at the beginning, are near the end and with formations in between.

NCAA 14 was a big headache getting the right base playbook to work, but at the very least formations were listed in the same order you added them. It seems like a stupid oversight by EA.

I haven’t tried it but in madden the formations appeared in the order you added them to your playbook. Super tedious and leaves no solution for changing your playbook later.

That is how NCAA 14 used to be too (with a few headaches in between) and it definitely causes issues if you change things around a lot, like year to year in a dynasty, but what I would usually do is just create multiple variations of one "system" that I could then switch between depending on personnel.

For example, I'd have my base offense with essentially all the formations and concepts that could be used online (no custom playbook online in 25 is a nightmare), then in dynasty I'd distill it down to a pro version for a passing QB, an option version for a running QB, more 10 personnel if I had lots of WR, more 12 if I had lots of FB/TE/H.

A lot more up front work because I essentially made five playbooks up front, but way easier to cover all the bases and it let me be organized. 25 makes it easier to add/subtract formations since formations are always in the order of the menu, but the menu is so wildly disorganized that it makes no sense.

I do not think there is a workaround for ordering sets, formations, or plays in CFB25 right now. The sort order appears to be some internal ID value inherent to each set / formation / play, as I can't figure out any other ordering it provides which makes sense to a human.

On the flip side, the star ratings system feeding plays into the Recommended tab actually works for custom playbooks for the first time since this style of custom playbook was introduced way back in Madden 11. To that end, I've been heavily leveraging the star ratings and disregarding the formations tab of the play call menu entirely unless I need to make a substitution to run a particular play. It's been a very different gameplay experience for sure, but I admit it does help me get in and out of the huddle faster.

This way of using my custom playbook honestly works out very well for me on defense, because I know I always want a match coverage against 3x1 and having the game automatically feed Quarters / Palms / 3 Buzz Match into Recommended is a lot easier than digging for one of those wherever EA Sports decides they each belong in the playbook lol.

The real question is did they edit how they sort into the playbook? This is a very good first step at least for me. If nothing else I can sort if by personnel and the order is mostly going to be ok. I wonder if they added new plays to the existing formations too?
