Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
As to the topic question, I have read elsewhere that setting up divisions for each conference lessens some of the weird scheduling behavior in this game, but it's still kinda messy.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
Representatives from EA Sports said multiple times during their prerelease media availability prior to this game's release that basically none of the code from NCAA Football 14 was usable for College Football 25. To that end, they had to rebuild everything.
As to the topic question, I have read elsewhere that setting up divisions for each conference lessens some of the weird scheduling behavior in this game, but it's still kinda messy.
I can say that all my conferences except for maybe 2 have divisions and I'm still getting wonky schedules. Teams are only playing 3 and 4 conference games. Plus I am not able to alter my schedule at all or it gives me an error when I try to confirm it.
I think next offseason I will set all conference schedules to 8 games as someone previously suggested, and then I may try no divisions. I want to be able to schedule custom OOC opponents. Whatever I end up doing I'm going to make a backup save before I get to that stage. I'll make the changes and see what it does and report back. It will be a bit before I get there though as I'm only 7 games into this season and I'm playing every game in full for this season.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
Weighing back in to say that while having divisions IS a workable way to get certain in conference teams to play each other, it WILL NOT guarantee teams play the correct number of games.
Just spent way too long setting up custom conferences with these results:
EVERY Conference had divisions and EIGHT games
AAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, and Sun Belt with 12 teams
Pac 12 with 12
ACC, Big 12, and SEC with 14 teams
Big Ten with 16
ACC , American, Big 12, CUSA, MWC & SEC worked fine.
In the Big Ten:
2 teams played 8 games
7 teams played 7 games
7 teams played 9 games
In the MAC:
2 teams played 8 games
3 teams played 7 games
1 team played 5 games
6 teams played 9 games
In the Pac 12:
2 teams played 8 games
3 teams played 7 games
1 team played 5 games
6 teams played 9 games
In the Sun Belt:
2 teams played 8 games
3 teams played 7 games
1 team played 5 games
6 teams played 9 games
Interesting that 2 1-team conferences were fine, but 3 others had the exact same thing happen.
One example of OOC games ruining this whole thing. I moved Pitt (and Virginia) to the Big Ten. In real life Pittsburgh plays Kent State in week 1. They play them here in Week 4. In real life they close their schedule with SMU, Virginia, Clemson, Louisville, & Boston College. The same thing happens here. Four of those five teams are OOC opponents in my reshuffling, as is Kent State. So they play 5 non-conference games because they hard coded the wrong games and all the conference games start in week 1.
Look, I know video games are hard to figure out and make, but this is their job? If I was this incompetent at my job I'd be asked to leave. We let people making video games get by with tons of ****, and we're all idiots for it.

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
No divisions guarantees that each team has the correct number of conference games. And combining it with setting up 8 or 9 conference games seems to give better results. With divisions, teams may have more or less conference games than what you originally set up.Comment

I'm pretty sure they know about it, it's likely they haven't been able to fix it yet, which is why it hasn't been included in any of the patches yet.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
If you want divisions, what seems to work is conferences with 14 teams with two 7-team divisions. If you set it up this way with 8 conference games, what you will get is the following:
- Six games against division opponents.
- One "permanent" rival in the opposite division that you play every season. Oddly, this is decided based on alphabetical order. For example, if you try to redo SEC divisions, Florida (first alphabetically in the SEC East) plays Alabama (first alphabetically in the SEC West) every season; Arkansas always plays Georgia, Kentucky always plays Alabama, etc. (It's great that they have the opportunity to do permanent opponents...it'd be better to be able to control it.)
- One rotating home-away series with someone in the other division, that also seems to go in alphabetical order. To use the above example, Florida would play Arkansas in 2024-25, then Auburn in 2026-27, then LSU in 2028-29.
Although it's not perfect (the ability to select cross-divisional "rivals" would be great), it gives you a balanced schedule.
Any divisions with two 6-team divisions and 8 conference games (i.e., MAC, a recreated PAC-12) becomes unbalanced. I tried to recreate the PAC-12 and Oregon is especially wonky; often having only 4-5 conference games. My guess is that the game is trying to fit in all of the "future" games on the schedule. Because Oregon has all these Big 10 games, the schedule might overrides the PAC-12 schedule to force these games in....but only with 6-team divisions. When making a "PAC-14" (adding Boise St. to the North and SDSU to the South), those problems went away.
I haven't tried testing two 8-team divisions.Comment

Thanks for sharing, will definitely try this. Had stayed away from having divisions because of the issues mentioned in my earlier post.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
What I've noticed when making conferences with divisions.....
Under 14 team conferences cannot have divisions or you'll often get a wonky number of conference games, otherwise can play 8-9 game conference schedules if no divisions are set
14+ team conferences can have divisions or no divisions and should play the full 8 or 9 games conference schedule
I still have no clue what to manipulate to get proper rotating schedules, home/away ratios or rivals to work. Also with what I mentioned above it's still not perfect. You'll often still see a few teams each season with 1 more or less conference game than they are supposed to have, sometimes even the full schedule being off by a game (ie 11 or 13 game full schedule)Believe in the ball and throw yourself!Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
I managed to get a 12-team Pac12 and 16-team Big Ten to work (one time so far!) with divisions by having 9 conference games.
But I can also support what's happening in the last few posts. Seeing the same things.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
Thanks to all who have posted since my update last night. Whenever I get to offseason I'm going to try adding teams to make all the major conferences at least 14 teams. I'll try 2 divisions with 8 or 9 conference games specified first and see what happens. I'll also try out 16 team conferences. If I can't do custom OOC opponents with either of those setups I'll try no divisions and see what happens there.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
Just tested creating five 16-team conferences with 2 divisions (8 teams in each division) and 9 conference games. And it does seem to work! Meaning all teams play the correct number of conferences games, each team plays all seven of their division opponents plus two more opponents from the other division. Still you may see an uneven schedule, that is, more home games than road games or vice versa. But at least you can edit the OOC games and switch from home to road or road to home to ultimately have 6 home games and 6 road games.Comment

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)
For whatever it's worth, I made changes only to the Pac-12 in year 2, not to my conference. And I could not edit my schedule. I play in the Sunbelt, as Georgia State. I tried leaving and re-loading the dynasty, but no luck. My schedule was my schedule.
And it was only 7 conference games while everyone else in the conference played 8. Many other conferences were inconsistent like this too.
After the season I killed the divisions in the Sunbelt (the only one with divisions) and just like that, I could schedule edit. And it appears everyone has an even number of games this season.
So, small sample size, but getting rid of divisions has at least worked once.
EDIT to add: that said, I just learned in the other thread that editing schedules result in uneven games played.Last edited by Inverarity; 09-03-2024, 08:57 PM.Comment

FWIW, I use ODU in the Sun Belt with divisions. In 2025 I added 6 teams to the PAC12 (8), removed 2 teams from the ACC (15) and removed 4 teams from the MWC (8).
I’m now in 2027, still with divisions, and every year everyone in the Fun Belt, Pac8, MWC, and ACC have all played the correct # of conference games and I’ve always had the option to,change my team’s schedule.Favorite Teams:
College #1: Michigan Wolverines
College #2: Michigan State Spartans (my alma mater)
College #3: North Carolina Tar Heels
NHL: Detroit Redwings
