Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)

I thought I had seen that this was addressed in a recent patch, but apparently not. I am getting the proper number of conference games regardless of my setup now (I have tried with divisions and divisionless, using 8 or 9 conference games).

However, custom schedules are still not working fully regardless. I am Notre Dame. It seems you can't remove or change the week of your rivals. I tried to change Navy game to a different week and can't get it to stick no matter what. I can't remove the Stanford game from the schedule either by changing it to open or putting a different team that week. I have tried this both divisionless and with divisions.

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)

I am in year five of my dynasty and this offseason between 2027 and 2028 I made most conferences 14 teams with divisions and nine conference games. The Sun Belt and Conference USA have ten teams with nine conference games.

I went through the teams schedules and every team is playing 4/5 or 5/4 home/away.

But of course this is a small sample size. My schedule only rotates the two non-division opponents every two years. I play my six division teams, and three teams from the other division with one being locked as a "rival". The conference games are always in the same order for the last six that don't rotate.

It's definitely messed up. Oregon is playing 8 of its 9 conference games at home, Miami is playing 8 of its 9 conference games on the road. Other teams in various conferences are 6/3, 3/6, 7/2, 2/7. It's stupid.

Just started 2029 season and schedules still look good in my custom dynasty. 14 team leagues with divisions, playing nine game schedules looks like it may be the way to go. No teams playing more than three straight home or away games and teams that played four home in 2028 are playing five home in 2029.

I am in 2033 and have not had the issue. I do not have Divisions in any conference and I do a relegation system (so I don't know if Team A ever plays Team B in conference play during the 30 years). All conferences play 9 conference games except the 8 team MAC which plays 7.

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)

Today I realigned the 2019 conferences, except for the Sun Belt (like today) and the C-USA, which is all 2019 teams+teams that still were FCS in this year.

All conferences except for the Big12 of course have divisions and I set all conferences to 9 conferences games. Believe it or not - every single team played 12 games and all conference teams played 9 conference games.

Then I simulated a season with 8 conference games in all conferences and no divisions at all. Unfortunately some teams didn't play 8 conference games.

Re: Custom conference/schedule problems (looking for workarounds/suggestions)

I've started a new dynasty, with only 2 seasons of testing all teams played 8 conference games, and 12 total. Most home games I have seen is 7 for a team. Only problem seems to be playoff seeding as in year one Boston College won the C-USA championship game against Tennessee, yet Tennessee was selected at large at 11-2 ranked #10, BC finished 9-4 ranked #18 did not get in.

My conferences all have 12 teams, all 8 conference games, all have title game for division winners.

Don't know if this would help anybody. Will do more testing this weekend. If anyone is interested I can also post my conference layout.

This is absolutely not a problem and seems to be very accurate to how it would be in real life in this scenario. An 11-2 Tennessee (who of course was 11-1 in the regular season) should definitely be getting an at large bid. And it’s no surprise that a 9-4 conference champ would not be among the 5 highest ranked conference champs (I dunno where your CUSA ranks among conferences).

                        No it isn’t.

It’s correctly coded to have the 5 highest ranked conference champs get automatic bids, just like real life.

EDIT: And just to be clear, I don’t mean the champs of the 5 highest ranked conferences in terms of conferences prestige. It correctly uses the 5 conference champs (regardless of conference prestige) that are ranked highest in the top 25 cfp poll.

Okay did not know that's how it is written, thanks for the information. Wish we had just a few more options for control over this stuff, but it is really awesome to have a college football game again, hopefully we get a little more customization options in year two.

I really doubt it. I’d imagine they’ll keep it true to real life.

I don’t play Madden nor watch the nfl, but do they give you options? Can you customize the playoffs to make them different than real life? If so, then maybe CFB will have this too. If not, then I’d say it’s extremely unlikely CFB will have it.

I had hope that they would give option for playoff size, just based on that line that they put out months ago. Something like "we realize the landscape of college football has changed drastically in the past few years and has the potential to do so again in the near future, so we want to give players the options to adjust to that."

Apparently that meant just swapping teams between conferences though.

Ideally we'd be able to adjust playoff size, but I can live without it.

To answer your question though, Madden does not let you change the number of playoff teams, that's only done through modding.

It’s definitely still butchering home and away, for me at least. Just started a new dynasty in the ACC, and left it as is. 2 home and 6 in a row on the road, yikes!

So was it concluded that divisions fix this for larger conferences? Does an odd number of teams in a conference impact things?
