If you decide to do this, let us know. It would be completely game-changing in my opinion.
I went ahead and have created this spreadsheet for myself. I can definitely post it after I clean it up some bit (adding more features that would randomize incoming frosh's jersey numbers, equipment, handedness, and a better naming index... all still being worked and would be stripped from the sheet until complete), but I have the dynamic progression part done. Only issue it the recalc of the player OVR is not perfect (mainly if they're rated above 99 and receive a negative progression... no way to account for their buffer above the 99 ovr).

My only question is when is the best time to use it in dynasty? The real question is when does the CPU auto set their depth charts? Is it preseason or week 1? Because I would want to do this progression before the depth charts are set, so that way we don't have better players not starting. Are there any negative implications if we do this during the players training page?

        Kawkeye,

Quick question regarding awareness boost. Do you only edit the QB’s or everybody? I used your system in a previous dynasty and liked it. I’ve also been giving every freshman for every team a +6 awareness boost in hopes of getting them more playing time but it hasn’t resulted in much. Was wondering if you’ve tested the +15 for other positions and if so how that’s worked out

I typically only give QB’s awareness boosts because that is the only position you see big differences in when actually playing the games as far as awareness goes. Simming is a whole different story.

As was discussed earlier, the major benefit of this is to add more parity and freshman/sophomore starters at the most important position on the field. After a few years, this gets watered down and there are too many highly rated QB’s. I would suggest rolling a 1-3 for each freshman QB on all teams. 1 = Decrease awareness. 2 = Keep it the same. 3 = Increase awareness.

How much would you recommend decreasing by?

Re: Dynamic Player Progression System - No Editor Needed

Thanks for making this system, it's really well thought out and created. It adds a lot to the game.

I have always wished that the game kept track of snaps and a good percentage of a players progression would include the number of plays they are on the field. A certain amount of progression can be based on yearly development that happens with every player, but some of it really should be based on how much they play.

If I could find stats that correlated well with snaps, I would actually add this to your progression scheme. It might work well for some skill players, but stats don't correlate well on defense.

Re: Dynamic Player Progression System - No Editor Needed

Yes I agree with that to an extent. One thing to remember though is that players regress occasionally, even with looking at large numbers of snaps.

QB Adrian Martinez from Nebraska is an example of this. He was really good freshman year and has gotten progressively worse since, and is probably going to lose his starting job.

So I guess what I’m saying is I’ve thought about incorporating what you talked about but I also like how my system actually makes players regress occasionally or progress a lot occasionally because they are things that happen in real life.

I haven’t tested it out yet because I’ve been too busy (new baby at home) but I would say no more than 10-12. It should be enough to noticeably set back their development (which is what we are going for in the end), but hopefully not so much they start acting weird if they get in.

Awesome, thanks for doing that! So your saying once a player hits 99, there is no way to tell the editor to stop progressing them? That’s interesting.

As for timing, I do everything in the preseason and the cpu sets depth charts when you progress to the regular season. I the game, you can’t get into the roster before the preseason. Are you saying you could use your spreadsheet and do progression anytime because it doesn’t rely on getting to the proper menu in-game?

Re: Dynamic Player Progression System - No Editor Needed

No, I can cap the attributes and overalls at 99, but for example if a player is already at 99 and say he gets a negative progression, then his new overall will be 95 for example. But there is no way of knowing what his true overall was (let's say it was 104), then he would still be a 99 overall, but I have no way of accounting for that. I'm fine with this way I have it now, just know it's not a perfect system.

To be honest, I was just curious as I haven't done too much testing. I'm just trying to update and finish all my spreadsheets I'm working on and then will get to testing. I was asking because I don't want to run the dynamic progressions, but then the CPU not update their depth charts, so some new stud that progressed a lot could be stuck behind someone worse than him.

Does anyone have a progression system that is automated yet? I don't care about anything besides progression. I really want to play dynasty again, but the progression really bothers me and I have no idea how to program.

My first time using this. Awesome tool, and as much as I like Hellisan's WE method, I don't have the time anymore lol, so this is a great system. Much appreciated for sharing!

This is a great system! For those that edit CPU teams as well, curious to know how you all account for the fact that the CPU Depth Charts don't re-order once you're in the preseason.
