2027-2028 MIAMI HURRICANES SEASON PREVIEW

This is Comeback Season for the Miami Hurricanes. 2 years ago Miami won their 6th National Championship and with hopes to repeat they fell flat on their faces. The Canes still managed to pull it together and win a 4th straight ACC Title and ultimately had their 4th straight season of 11 wins or more, but with 3 losses they weren't satisfied at all. The losses came to Georgia early, North Carolina with Dawson out, and the worst defeat in recent school history against Georgia Tech who destroyed Miami. They will get revenge on 2/3 schools and will substitute UGA for rival Florida in the opening week of the season which will be huge. The Canes want this to be their bounce back year and although they lost 10 starters from last year, the key guys that came back were apart of that National Championship team and this will likely be all of their last season's in a college uniform. Here's a look at the 2027 Miami Hurricanes.
OFFENSE
• Impact Players
QB Jeff Dawson 7 JR
HB Craig Coleman 3 SR rs
HB D. D. Sims 2 SO rs
7/11 starters returning

This Canes offense should be tough if they can get the momentum going early. They have the best backfield in the country and it will be tough for anyone to shut them down for 4 quarters. Dawson returns from a frustrating 26' season that was plagued with injuries. He is still the heart and soul of this team and they will go as far as he takes them. Coleman and Sims both return at RB and the only question is how will they both touches? Both have had Heisman considerations so if they can put it together this year Miami will be a very physical team. The receiving core will be the big question mark. They have 1 WR who got significant time last year in Clemons, but after him there is one returner, 2 juco transfers, and the and a freshman. The Canes have 2 big time TEs so the assumption is they will be less spread and more power but will this change of scheme work for Dawson who can light it up in the spread? That remains to be seen.
DEFENSE
• Impact Players
FS Chris Carter 23 JR rs
MLB Kyle Joyce 52 SR
SS Brandon Woods 28 SR rs
5/11 starters returning

The defense lost 2 starting DTs, 2 starting CBs, 1 DE and 1 SS to the draft. Alot of talent lost but this team always revolves around the LB position who returns everyone so they should still be solid. Joyce is the key to this defense at MLB. He's a strong smart kid who makes plays everywhere on the field. Last year he lead the team in interceptions. He will have his same group beside him with the addition of Dennis Pratt, a 6'2 speedy true freshman from Ohio who will get in on the rotation. The Dline lost 3/4 starters but they have kids who were just waiting on their moment. Cooke and Spicer are the leaders of that group this year and expect to have zero drop off. The secondary lost 3/4 starters to the draft as well but the good news is Carter, their best DB returns at FS and Woods who will play SS started the year they won the ship so Safety is a lock. The CBs however are a concern with only 1 guy they're sure on. They have 2 elite true freshman who are not expected to play because of numbers but if the starters dont show they can cover I think the Canes will start the young guys and roll the dice.
OVERALL
Miami feels like last year was just alot of bad luck and misfortune but they still got 11 wins out of a bad year. This year I think their leaders will separate themselves even more and pick up where they left off 2 years ago with Dawson leading the way.
PREDICTION
12-2
The Canes will be better but this schedule is brutal. They will face a bitter rival who is likely a top 5 team this year, then the defending champion Buckeyes a few weeks later, then Clemson, FSU, and Georgia Tech. Tough sledding ahead for the Canes but I think we'll see true freshman Dawson not sophomore Dawson. He is that good.
