I agree with Josh here, although it also depends on what roster you are using and what team. As long as you don't go to extremes with the aggression it works out. I started off my dynasty off at 45 with defense which I consider a middle of the road defense (using cincy) after a few good seasons I adjusted to 35 I still give up about the same yardage and points as the previous 3 seasons but the cpu eats up more time and has more plays with the more conservative setting. The various aggression settings have really provided the best games without extremes since the set became final. Ultimately you are building a program and you shall be the one to decide whether to be more aggressive or more on the conservative side. Depending on your players either direction will have its advantages and disadvantages as long as extremes are avoided.

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
It should be noted I only had 19 sacks on the year. So some of that poor pass D can be attributed to the fact that the QB was getting plenty of time to pass due to my average at best DLine (rated 72, 76, 78). I run a 3-4 DComment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
I just finished up a game and looked at the season stats afterword. In year 3 with cincy and my defense is rated at an 84 with my dline being the best of the bunch. My top corners are 85 (nickel) 84 for CB 2 and my cb1 is a glover Williams who transferred from Osu at 89 but with little playing experience his awareness is only in the lower 60s so he gets beat regularly. Through the 31 games my d has always been 85 or under and I always seem to give up around 220-240 passing and around 130 rushing. The 35 aggression works well with my style but it can also be a bear with the tentative play by low rated players and by low rates I am saying 85 and less. Coach skills play a vital role as well especially if you don't have much. I have all mine in recruiting and I really wish I would've evened it out in the offseason. I struggle throughout games and really have to play conservative against good teams to have a chance. Not sure if you are using the op sliders exact or if you have a few tweaks but I have recently changed the cpu qba down to 5 and bumped up cpu catch to 45 to offset it. In the last 2 games Holgorson from Memphis was 16/31-167 1int against me (rated 77) I won 55-21 while Houstons Benifore? (Rated 88) was 21/38-304 td 2ints which I also won 27-24 on a last second fg. When I get a chance I'll throw some more stats at you with that setup since we have a similar defense.Comment

I had both CPU and Hum pass acc on 5 for a long time, but the comp pct were just not there. My QB would be rated over 90 and still would struggle to complete 55%. I would have some games where I would start like 4 for 18 for 23 yards. ....10 is more life like given todays college football of 60% or higher being the norm it seems.
I'm hoping to see more pass deflections with the agression slider at 30 in hopes it combats the CPU flicking it all over the field on me.
I should also note that I rarely call defense if I dont have to. Of course in hurry up I have to. I'll jump in from time to time to call plays if my "coordinator" is just getting torched.
Bottom line, hopefully, with better recruits on the way and this slider, I can D up better against the pass. In theory once my defense is solid with a 90+ overall rating, I can up the aggression back into the 40's to create more Int's and such.Comment

JP, which Coach Skills in particular are you referring to? I too put all my level up points towards recruiting.Comment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
Off the top of my head the biggest ones are the top 3 and the very top one. Not so much the clean laundry on though. Once that is activated there are rarely any calls. With that one inactive between two teams I usually see 4-10 penalties a game. Mainly it's the 4th quarter, nastradamus, and the big game ones. I have Josh's roster but I can't remember for sure if that's the one I edited for my dynasty. I basically just edited all skills based off of many factors and ended up tiering teams based a lot off of how all of the coaches have performed throughout there careers. I used a big portion of skills based off of the s&p ratings for as far back as I could go with all coaches. There is a very detailed description of the ratings correlating with how aggressive teams are. Once the oc's and dc's are balanced it plays better than I ever could have imagined. While most all coaches are pretty high except the bottom dweller teams. I have been paying close attention to all sim stats and lesser teams hoping they don't become power schools. So far W. Michigan, Houston, Cincy (user) Boise Memphis and Ucf have been ranked for brief periods. My skills are all in recruiting, my new oc and dc are pretty high coming in the offseason around 16, but with the rest being balanced I don't have as many issues with it becoming to easy. They virtually have to be higher or the cpu players for the cpu and user just stink it up. With the lease teams recruiting at a lower level they can still compete but a team like Navy W. Michigan Tulsa etc are not going to beat the big boys enough to be in the title picture anytime soon. I suppose once the coaches all bounce around some teams will rise but the balance should still be there.Comment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
I don't play coach mode very often but i think something that will attribute to lower % is putting your opi/dpi at 51/50. Credit to Josh for digging into it. I see more swats and tighter coverage. As far as the aggression goes I assume coach mode works the same as it would a user. 40 may be a bit to high for certain teams. I have read about the theories that the more aggressive teams always win but for example right now the top 10 in my dynasty are undefeated and all have d aggression set no higher than 35 with the likes of Alabama, Ohio st, Lsu, Etc being in the 20-25 range. The only team that has a high aggression in the top 15 is Oregon and they virtually play the way they do in real life great offense but the d leaks more oil than my old 79 cordoba. If you want a more detailed explanation I can shoot you a pm which may or may not help.
Isn't 20-25 too low? I thought Coach D aggressiveness was supposed to stay within 30-50 and anything out of that range and things would get a bit out of whack? No?
I'm about to start my second season now. I'm going to adjust my PI sliders to 51-50, and as stated my coach Def aggression to 30 and see how the season goes. I tested 51/50 once for like a half (not much of a sample size i know lol), and coverage seemed reaaally loose to me. I'm going to give it another shot though because I know you guys poured hours into researching it. Feel free to shoot me that PM as I'm always curious to know the details to getting this game as spot on as possible. Here's my current season roster...

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
Well, that was a brutal wake up compared to last seasons games. You could say I def notice a difference in the PI sliders...albeit only against me though lol. Their QB and mine had the same rating (81)....both our defenses rate 88. I guess I'll just have to chalk this up to bad playcalling defensively on my part? Collins was a bell cow in this game as the soft middle of my D was exposed. Still couldn't knock their QB off his game though. Hopefully as the games go he wont be so on-point. It doesnt get any easier as I face Texas next week, 93 rated defense.

This game actually looks really good except the completion percentages. I will shoot you a pm with an idea on how to get yours up and there's down a bit.Comment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
Yea I really liked the way my QB wasn't flicking the ball all over, especially given his rating, and playing on the road against a good Arkansas Def where the CPU aggression is set to 35 for Bilema. My QB came into last season rated 72 and finished with 21 TDs and 10 Ints, 3,600 yards 61%...Def a little too good for a SO. 72 rated QB. So, the adjusted PI sliders to 51/50 were a positive. Now, per your PM, just have to work on the CPU passing.Comment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
I've been sitting on this for a while, giving it a really good run before posting.
Autosubs
Long story short....autosub settings have a major impact on gameplay! I first discovered this effect on M16 and decided to try it out on NCAA. Sure enough, definite impact. The simplest way to explain it is that the higher the autosub value, the more aggressive the players play. As I have done on M16, I am advocating going with default autosubs (60 Out/80 In) across the board. The gameplay feels a bit tougher, but lineplay is much more even (i.e., much harder to get sacks).
Sub Frequency
It is basically your fatigue slider. As in M16, this is best left at 50. Why? The CPU has more juice in their energy bar to break tackles, make special moves, etc. Setting both user and CPU coaches to all have a sub frequency of 50 also has resulted in more injuries (not enough for my taste...but better) and those second-half comebacks due to CPU slowing down are virtually eliminated. Those of you who like the fatigue off approach might enjoy this as a nice middle ground.
One final thing....with this setup, JP and I fiddled around with various settings to get better QB play (from the standpoint of forcing throws or targeting number 1 receivers). I now believe (with the 60/80 autosub setup), that IG=0 is the overall best solution. I have had a tremendous variety of games with this overall setup. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Regarding the coach Sub Frequency, the roster I'm using that was globally edited for all coaches to be set at 60, can I just edit the coaches on the fly as I play each game? Or do I need to edit every coach first? Basically, does it effect sim stats in any way? I would guess I can do it on the fly..Comment

Re: 50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14
Also, just curious, wouldn't it still be better to leave user User Sub Frequency at 80 to provide the importance of depth? I can understand tinkering the CPU to 50 to do what we can to avoid the 4th qtr collapses. I've been playing with CPU at 60.Last edited by BlackRain37; 03-22-2016, 08:57 AM.Comment
