Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
I'm sure glad I stay out the Madden forum now. Same topic, different day/month/year.
My small 2¢
Madden 25 on Next-gen is far from worst game. It in reality is the best damn football game EA has produced. It is far from perfect also, but the worst it is not.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
For however long this thread continues. Lets try to keep the discussion as close to the topic as possible. That does not include the exclusive license or NFL 2K. There are like a million threads for that.
Thank you.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
It always turns into this. We'll be having a discussion about Madden, then someone will mention something about how EA hasn't fixed a certain problem, then someone will mention how 2K5 never had this problem and then it goes into the whole license fiasco. Trust me PVarck I wish the discussion could be simple but I doubt it ever will be.

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
If you still can't have individual defensive matchups like they had 2 consoles ago, it is nowhere near the best game that they have produced. The PS2 gameplay was the heyday of Madden where it actually took a combination of coaching and stick skills. You couldn't just line up your beast WR in the slot while the #1 CB just stayed with some scrub and the defenses actually worked. None of this run commit, pass commit garbage. If I line up in goal line D then obviously I am expecting a run or if I lined up in Dime, I am expecting a pass. While Next Gen may be the best game they have made in a while, it is the game that we should have had three years ago.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
The thing about Madden is that, at this point, I feel people not only have revisionist history about the past but also self-fulfilling prophecies about it's future. I made a blog about this here, but it bares repeating, the same strategy 2K used for it's basketball game at the start of last gen is exactly what EA decided to do with Madden this time. Instead of trying to construct a completely new game/engine from scratch, devoid of any modes, they used the 360/PS3 foundation and simply updated the graphics a bit. Initially, yes, it makes the game underwhelming, but ultimately, it gives them a better foundation to build off of for the future. 2K used this same exact strategy to great success in the previous gen, go back and compare NBA 2K6 on the PS2/Xbox to the one on 360/PS3, and outside of the player models, everything else was virtually the same. (Ironically, 2K took EA's Madden 06 approach for this generation and tried to build 2K14 from the ground up, and look how well that's turning out) Furthermore, people need to remember one of the main reasons 2K5 took the extreme measure they did with their price in the first place. Madden 2004 is arguably the best edition of the game ever made. It got rave reviews and IMO resulted in 2K5's price point more than how awesome they thought their game was. They had no other option to try to compete with Madden 2005 at the time other than doing something drastic, so let's not act like EA wasn't dominating video game football before, during & after 2K existed....Last edited by jdareal21; 01-14-2014, 06:25 PM.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
What? I'm saying that, essentially, EA & 2K flip flopped strategies. In the beginning of last gen, nobody was wowed with NBA 2K6. It was the exact same game that was on PS2/Xbox except the player models were updated and they could sweat. Nothing else was changed at all. Over time, that strategy paid off IMO, because although graphically it was unimpressive, the foundation was good and allowed for the eventual rise of 2K11 and so on. My whole point with it, is for people to simply remember that in their rush to bash EA for doing the same thing. Likewise, 2K tried to build 2K14 from scratch for the new systems, and according to a wide number of people, the game is somewhat broken. It's pretty as hell, but broken. Madden 06, for it's time, was pretty as hell too, and also broken, and they built on that rickety foundation with little success. EA did the right thing this time, and IN time, I feel it will pay off. My opinion, of course, we don't need to share it...Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
To be fair, if you actually watched the video. In a round about way he isn't saying it actually belongs on the list, bit deserves a spot due to broken promises and all the release making the expectation of mediocrity and not pushing the envelope. The only reason Madden was on the list is not because its a bad game, but because its pretty much telling us to expect mediocre again this generation.
Honestly he could have made a video giving his commentary in that, but top 10 lists attract mor veiwers. I actually agree with most of what he actually said in the video. I didn't watch passed madden, but did either basketball game on next gen make the list because both belong there. Which is sad.Comment

No, which is why I don't get behind something that has been said before. To not have one or both of those game on there is a mistake.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
People say thiss and I flat out do not see it. I see a game thats cleaned up a bit on graphics, some new animations, but the SAME CORE GAMEPLAY ENGINE. Nothing abut the way 2k14 on next gen plays screams rebuild. The only thing that screams rebuild was the removal of just about every mode that wasn't myplayer, and the utter focus to make you need VC for everything essentially making it a free to play game that you paid 60 plus dollars for. 2k pulled an EA this go around, but a rebuild had nothing to do with it.Comment

Re: Angry Joe put Madden (next gen) on list of 10 worst games of 2013
I only played 6 total games, but it did not feel all that different to me. It looked nicer but the game felt very familiar. Just my opinion, but it didn't feel like a complete rebuild to me.Comment
