I mean, sure. I'm with you 100%, I'd rather have any of those things too. Perhaps the resources weren't there to implement any of those other presentation pieces you suggest in a single cycle, these things aren't necessarily one-for-one trades, perhaps these ad things were a really easy win, so-to-speak.

My overarching point is I don't understand getting up-in-arms over advertisements in sports games, so long as the flow isn't disrupted in an obviously exploitative manner. We still don't know what these things look like other than they are there. If they ultimately do interrupt gameplay flow and jar the user out of the experience, then sure I've got a problem with them.

I liken the coin-toss to the tip-off in basketball and while in basketball you fight for the ball: I believe the two are the same in that they traditionally decide who wins the ball first.

I cannot fathom why they would do away with this module. If it was Madden 99 - OK but Madden 15 on Gen4 consoles?

Its neither time nor space conservation, in my opinion, but a blatant guinea pig test.

I am sure we will see the coin-toss return with a new spin and advertised under some new marketing glow in a future Madden title.

It's technically not gone, there's just no scene for it. You select the coin toss in the team selection screen.

The difference is that the tipoff is an active part of the game in basketball. The players on each team don't start tackling each other while the coin is in the air; it's completely disjoint from any other football mechanic.

Effectively nothing is lost by cutting the coin toss and re-engineering the start of games in a manner where the user can get from team select to the field more expeditiously.

I was just thinking about this. My guess is a menu pops up and you never see the coin flip.

I kinda actually glad they changed it. I didn't like being rushed through it in Madden 25.

Liked what I read, my favorite feature is Qb Inaccuracies and receiver Efforts. The passing game is one of the top reasons I havent bought this game in five years and now the finally addressed it some what, can't wait to see what it looks like in gameplay.

Also I have one question. Is wr/db interactions/jostling in the game before the ball is thrown? I have not heard this talked about at all, so Im thinking its not.

Seriously, are we still going postal over the coin toss?

[sarcasm]I just hope they aren't using the wrong coin. That would just ruin the game for me. [/sarcasm]

Yes, I am. The coin toss is absolutely an integral part of a football game - it is where the game gets started. Removing something that has been a part of football since the beginning "to get to games faster" is pathetic, and shows that EA really doesn't understand something as seemingly simple as the coin toss. The coin toss and the options the teams receive as a result shape the course of the entire game. It is very much like the opening tip in basketball - while maybe not an "active" part of the game, it determines possession after each quarter break. That can be extremely important especially in close game.

I've been upset for years about how poorly EA has represented the strategy of the coin toss and the lack of strategy for the start of the second half. It shouldn't be that hard.

Team that wins the toss: Kick/Receive/Defer/Goal to defend
Team that loses: Goal to defend or Kick/Receive if winner picks goal

Team captains meet again with the official to start the second half:

Team that lost the coin toss: Kick/Receive/Goal
Team that won: Goal to defend or Kick/Receive if other team chose goal.

It is actually possible for a team to kick or receive to start both the first and second halves if the other player isn't smart - or is smart.

For example, if the conditions were absolutely miserable with strong constant winds with strong gusts going directly down the field, say I won the coin toss and deferred, so other team chose to receive. Depending on how the first half went, I would seriously consider choosing which goal to defend instead of receiving the second half kick, to make sure the wind was in my favor in the fourth quarter.

When I play Madden I am playing a simulated NFL football game, not an interactive network broadcast. Don't take away important components of the actual game and then fill it with TV presentation.

My fear is that instead of the coin toss, EA will have it be, in the team selection screen:

Visitor, do you want to kick or receive?
