They claim they want to go the direction of being more sim yet they design it to function like an arcade game IMO.

The new playcall screen might be great for the "Pick a play for me type player" that doesn't need more than 3 seconds to mash a button, but it's brutal for a more cerebral type players that need to sort the formations and plays to match down-distance and the offenses personnel.

keep the new interface, i'm starting to like it, but yeah, more time to choose the play.

seriously, how many seconds did we get previously? is the new interface just screwing us up this bad?

We get 12 seconds which I believe is the same, it's just that it seems so much harder to navigate through with only 3 plays on the screen at a time, vs I believe 6 last year

I havent played the actual game yet, but Ive seen & heard first hand. If EA is going for the SIM aspect, I understand being that most defensive plays in the NFL are generally called / set in a bit over 12 seconds. (Barring any substitutions)

However, this is a video game & 10 seconds is def not enough. 15 would be nice at best.

It's not the same because in Madden 25 the computer would delay before calling a play and thus starting the clock. The countdown clock is the same but now there is no delay before it starts counting down. This makes it near impossible to make a substitution and still find your play.

I love the new suggestions on the playcall menu. The strategy and community picks are awesome.

Choosing by formation is a nightmare. Every time you scroll down, there's a little "pop-under" menu that violently expands and pushes everything else down. God, I hate that. I really don't even mind the size and orientation of the menu so much, but that constantly expanding and contracting menu is just junk.

Re: Need more time to select a play on defense...

Yeah, definitely feels rushed this year. I'd like the option to just get to set a timer, at LEAST for offline play, make it an offline CFM only thing, or online 1 player included, or just make it so it can't be used in ranked matches, so the H2H people don't get up in arms. (I don't play against other people, I'm a franchise only person in my sports games, don't judge, just how I am.)

Give me the option to adjust the timer, and keep the play clock, just have time stop and give me say, a choice of 5 second intervals from 10 all the way to 60 seconds, and then unlimited, to pick a play after the other team has. It's the CPU I'm against anyways, so it isn't hurting anyone but myself.

Basically, +1 to it being a "rushed" feeling, and there are a ton of ways to fix it, even without changing the new playcalling screen.

This is the exact issue I have with it because I only call plays by formation. The constant expanding and contracting makes it really hard to focus on the screen and it burns up what little time you actually have to call a play. I'd love an option for the prior Madden 25 screen but I highly doubt it's gonna patched in or addressed.

This is one aspect where being sim just isn't in the best interest of the game.

I can call a play in 12 seconds easily if it was as simple as saying the play I want run in to a headset and my LB hears it. The problem is we need to navigate through a menu and select a play, that doesn't happen on an NFL sideline. Plus a DC has the entire time the offense is on the field to put together his strategy for the upcoming drive, where as we are left scrambling on a play by play basis. At the very least, we should be afforded extra time to select our play if the offense makes any substitutions, increase the time from 12 to 20 seconds so that we can make substitutions

They've sacrificed 'simple and streamlined' for the 'windowed app' approach, probably to feel as though they're remaining current with the app trends of today. Bad decision, especially in a timed scenario.

Want to know why Google won the search engine wars and is now practically a verb for searching on the internet? The answer: simple, streamlined, and uncluttered. They need to go back to that.

I'm so glad someone made this thread.

Also sucks when the CPU offense gets to the line and hikes the ball in .04 seconds

Agreed. It is one of the con's of this years game in that we have pretty much no time to look at our defensive playbook at all. It is very rushed.

It needs to be patched. I am hopeful they can do this for offline play at the very least.

Yes you could. I had mine off in my offline CFM last year.

I distinctly remember it's not even a guess or a maybe.

I will say, I do like the direction they are going with giving us more info on the plays, such as how many times they were called and how many yards they are averaging, but it is poorly implemented. The playcall menus only take up about 1/3 of the screen, and the rest is a view of the field, but when I'm calling plays my focus is 100% on the play menu, so why not expand it and have the entire screen be the playcall menu? That way you can show more than 3 plays at once with all of the new info, but still make it more efficient to navigate
