I sure hope so! I'm basically buying the game regardless at this point because I'm in a CFM league so I'm obviously hoping for the best, but it concerns me to not see anything until this late. Rex has been legit and open his whole time with Madden throughout the years and has given us no reason to doubt him. If the game didn't switch engines and Fifa didn't have so many flaws making the same transition last year I wouldn't be nervous without gameplay.

If the game releases without gameplay being shown first (at least a week prior) then yes, I will start to believe something is wrong with the game that they don't want us to see. At this point, my belief is that A)this is a new strategy that they truly believe will garner more hype for the game in the end, or B)they have a new staff in the marketing department and they are totally screwing it up. Those are the only 2 things that I believe, at this point, are causing this schedule to be further to the right than in years past. It isn't a fear of mine at this point that the game is broken in any way............if we are sitting at August 16th with no gameplay properly captured and shown, then I will join the bus that thinks something is wrong. As a consumer, seeing gameplay 3 months prior vs 1 week prior will not affect my purchase decision other than preorder or not.Comment

I got the same feeling last year, just to a lesser degree, that there is a fairly sharp divide between the direction and actions of the Marketing team and the Development team. I don't work there, so maybe there's some other 'disconnect' (and it's never just one thing), but from my vantage point and business experience, that's how i see that aspect. I also think Rex has been informed of certain things that he took as reliable, and has been let down himself. It's obvious to me there is internal issues that we unfortunately get to feel and have to hope they get resolved at some point.
Don't be surprised if there is yet another directional turn in marketing next year, and quite possibly a new marketing team all together.Comment

No they aren't. They have a date set that they will allow the release of footage on. You just aren't happy with the date.

Re: Only 2 1/2 Weeks to EA Access and No Gameplay... Concerned?
I just find it interesting they are taking this approach this year and don't necessarily feel like they are "hiding" gameplay but it's a head scratcher because last year they allowed EA Game Changers to post gameplay on June 20th. Rex tweeted by the end of next week gameplay is "scheduled" to be released which is less than two weeks from the game's release date. Everybody has their theories of the marketing strategy, etc etc but I am more in a confused state and just do not understand why they are doing it this way.
Maybe they want to flood the gaming news world with info closer to release. Maybe their data shows that a better approach to releasing info is to do it closer to release than 2 mos before. Maybe they want the first gameplay impressions they put out there through video to be one of the complete retail game and not an earlier. Maybe there were Frostbite related issues a month ago that they wanted to fix before people saw videos.
It could be those things or it could be something sinister. Either as it doesn't matter. We will get plenty of gameplay before people can buy the game.

Under that theory every developer is hiding a game. I'm working on a game that probably won't be released until late this year or early next year. They haven't even formally announced the game yet. Does that mean they are hiding it?

OLD BIT but true.. The reason EA is not releasing gameplay videos until the very last minute is because they CAN!! No competition.. Whereas they're trying to win back 2K basketball fans, so they're releasing NBA LIVE 18 demo next week..
Bottom line.. Do you really think if 2K had a football game Madden would be using this "new" marketing strategy of witholding gameplay videos until the very last minute before release?Comment

1) its not an actual date last I heard its just "by the end of next week"
2) the date was changed from mid to late July to now mid August.
I guess the vague responses has much to do with it and what's wrong with communicating issues they are experiencing with us the consumers if its causing it to push the date back.
Its pretty much a lose lose for EA because people will complain no matter the scenario but after the 22nd they will win again.Comment

To piggy back off of this, most people probably are not happy with this date because:
1) its not an actual date last I heard its just "by the end of next week"
2) the date was changed from mid to late July to now mid August.

Acceptable to some unacceptable to the majority.Comment

Goalpost get moved all the time every day in business.
My wife was suppose to leave for Brazil last Tuesday for 2.5 weeks. The operations in Brazil didn't know until Monday at 5:00pm if she was leaving or not.
They postponed the project until late October. The company pays only for a cancelled airline ticket.
Stuff happens that are out of our control. My wife can't change the way they do things in Brazil and with her company.Comment
