Sports gamer online tweeted last night that gameplay could come "sooner than people think" so hopefully that means Wednesday or Thursday.

There is literally no hype or buzz about this game at all, can't remember it ever being like this

I have been playing football games since 1989. In my experiences, the genre peaked with 2K5. Yeah yeah it's cliche to look back at things with nostalgia, but everyone I knew in the summer of 2004 agreed that game was the stuff.

Like most people, the NFL licensing deal with EA made me angry, but I continued to play Madden. I really liked playing football games, so what else was I gonna do? Fast forward to 2011, and I just couldn't stand the game anymore. I came back in last year with 0 expectations, remembering that I don't consider Madden to be anything close to sim. Madden, to me, is a video game more so than a football video game. However, I thought 2017 was pretty decent. I didn't hate it.

I spent the whole summer avoiding any kind of Madden info, with the hope that I could just jump in at the end of July and try to hype myself for a new game. I get back into OS forums....and there's basically nothing. But, that NBA 2K18 is looking pretty great....and it's only a few weeks further down the road. Just like that, I will not be buying Madden, but I am anxiously awaiting 2K18.

The point? I don't know, but this is NOT a marketing strategy. No marketing isn't a 'strategy'. That'd be like going fishing without ever casting, and calling it a new fishing technique.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. And this is not only a marketing strategy it's one that is obviously working. People are frantic for gameplay video at this point. The intent was to build demand and that's exactly what I see all over these forums.

Nostalgia or not, start with the foundation of NFL 2K5 and project it forward 13 years. I bet that's a hell of a game.

Start with Madden 05 and plot the timeline to today. That's a very disappointing exercise.

You can run it parallel with their basketball games. NBA 2K5 - NBA 2K17 huge advances from all view points. Live 05 - Now...they literally had to stop making it for awhile because they couldn't keep up.

I see that a lot around here, that Nostalgia word. But the truth is, we were at a Pinnacle in NFL sports gaming back in 2004. More so than anyone affiliated with EA would ever like to admit NFL 2k5 WAS the superior product. I still regularly play NFL 2k5 it was THAT good. BUT let me be clear, this isn't a 2K vs EA argument. I just find that choice of verbiage ("Nostalgia is powerful thing") is not only a direct correlation with what Madden devs use to bypass obvious grievances with current consumers, but also a sleigh jab at anyone who dare voice displeasure with the current product while bringing up its old competitor.

Outside of that I have to agree with Tweeg. Call it what you like but this is not Marketing. You voiced that people are "frantic" for gameplay, I believe you have that mistaken. People are "overly concerned" with the lack there of.

I totally 100 percent DISAGREE.. I've been buying Madden yearly since 1993 or whenever it first came out and this is the first year I'm not even hype about the game at all but rather meh.. In the past I would buy game magazines, everything just to read about Madden before the internet and now with them holding back gameplay videos and information I'm losing interest each day in their product. 2K just dropped another 4min video of how they're making 2K 18 great and yet nothing from EA until a few days before EA Access. Terrible marketing strategy, no other way around it.

Frantic is a good word. Can you imagine how things are going to be when people see the faults? Might be the worst backlash ever. Of course, I expect everything to be heavily edited by EA at this point.

Then on top of this Rex is actually teasing. It's not a good look at all. Makes we want to roll in and preorder Destiny 2 and leave Madden 18 alone, just on principle.
