    Fellow OS'ers, I have a confession...

I have been an extremely vocal critic of MUT and the perceived resources it takes away from CFM. This year I finally gave MUT a chance and it's been a breath of fresh air and extremely fun.

To justify my enjoyment of the mode I'll look at a couple factors that have played into my MUT experience.

#1 - EA pushed me into MUT. It's shoved down my throat every second when I turn on the game. I finally gave in and gave it a shot.

#2 - CFM isn't even ready to be played yet in its current state. Our online CFM is on hold while we wait for the patch.

Here is how I have fun with MUT:

    #1 -

I realize this is an arcade game and not an NFL simulation. I don't expect real football and I'm not disappointed. I view it as a simple competition vs my opponent. I take nothing personally and expect them to go for it on 4th down and cheese at every opportunity.

#2 - The card system + auction house is fun. I could do without the grinding for coins but it is fun to snipe some cards and buy packs.

In closing, I just want to say that I now understand why some people view this as their #1 mode in Madden. There's a good chance when our online CFM gets rolling I drop MUT completely but it's been a fun ride to this point and I can see myself getting into a yearly routine of playing MUT until the first patch drops and fixes the initial issues.

I do understand the frustration of many gamers on here because I don't view this game as an NFL simulation. Our online CFM will strive to try and make it close to an NFL simulation but at the end of the day it's a video game and it's aimed more so at casuals, in my opinion. Offline just isn't a priority and financially it doesn't make sense for them to focus on CFM as much as I want it. The MUT content put out weekly is crazy and the disparity of perceived resources from MUT to CFM is night and day. MUT is the cash cow...I've faced lineups that were already stacked with 90 OVR players which means these people invested hundreds or $1,000+ into their teams.

P.S. - I played LS and I can't believe it is in the game. I think it's a huge waste of resources and I hated every second of the mode.

    Same!

I tinkered with MUT some last year, really enjoyed the FNL draft thing, but once CFM was fixed and kicked in, more or less dropped MUT.

This year, for the same reasons our CFM hasnt started yet and a bunch of us in the league are playing squads and such, making the most of a bad situation, and its fun.

I don't blame you for not touching it. I'm still in the CFM > everything camp and if they were to eliminate MUT I wouldn't care. The reality is they aren't going to and it's been wildly successful for them.

Just sharing my pathetic story of failing to stay strong.

I thoroughly enjoyed NCAA's version of MUT. I played that on top of dynastymode .
However with how bad Maddens franchise mode has become, I won't even buy the game, let alone give MUT a chance.

I enjoy MUT for the fantasy football aspect of it. And I will continue playing MUT for the fantasy football aspect of it.

I've just been grinding solos while watching netflix, amazon or listening to music. Played some MUT Squads and went on a three game win streak with randoms before we got disconnected.

You honestly don't even NEED to play online games or spend money to enjoy the mode.

I honestly don't even understand it I'm so out of touch. Why are there several versions of the same player? Why can I get a 71 OVR Aaron Rodgers? Shouldn't he always be 98? To me that makes everything meaningless it doesn't really matter who you get you just need the souped up version of them.

I tried it for the very first time when I redboxed madden 18 (twice now).

I just don't get the appeal. I wanted to just collect the cards for something new and I couldn't really do that because the players have contracts where you lose them after so many games. Then I thought i put 2 gold players into a set and I would "keep" them, but it ended up trading them in for another pack that had 1 gold player in it and nothing else.

Also I was only allowed to buy 1 pack with coins. If I wanted other packs I had to pay real money. 1 pack (a day I guess?) is too slow of a grind to make it appealing.

MUT actually replaced fantasy football for me last year. My usual FF league didn't happen so I got my fix with that and it was quite fun. But it will never replace CFM for me.

                      Re: Fellow OS'ers, I have a confession...

The ratio of grinding : playing is just too skewed to grinding for me to enjoy it. Every choice just encourages the grind, or "Pay just $5 to avoid the grind!" That you can purchase players, who then expire on your team using the 'contract' system is a disgusting business practice to me. MUT is like GTA Online for me, which has an ultra skewed ratio of having to "work" in order to "play," for a retail priced videogame for me to find it acceptable. That doesn't mean some people can't find value in it, I just have trouble finding value in a videogame that makes me do tasks that aren't fun, and aren't challenging, in order to earn the privilege of playing something fun...... that I've paid money for.

I'm also disgusted that EA dropped Draft Champions in favor of MUT Draft which is locked behind a microtransaction ticket system. They sell you a game for $60, and then to play the online game modes, you have to pay $2 or $3 to play them... or grind for hours. That's a disgusting practice IMO. It's fine if it's a free to play game and they lock game play modes behind a few dollars here or there, but to sell a game at full retail value, only to lock game play behind a microtransaction system is shameful.

The ticket system in general is just disgusting from a consumer point of view. They've sold you a videogame, and then make you pay money (or grind/work) to purchase tickets in order to play a game mode. It's one thing if they make you pay money for good players, whatever, I can at least kind of understand that (though still think it's slimy), but that you've paid money for the game, and then you can't participate in the game play modes in the game without purchasing tickets, which cost more money, just seems so skeevy. It's like a carnival that charges you $60 to enter, and then makes you pay for the rides. Do they exist? Sure. Are they really shady? Absolutely.

Oh, I also think that it's no surprise that Madden '18 still has terrible load times, it all fits into the grind:money ratio. If you want to "earn" (work) coins, you can play the "NFL Challenge," which tasks you with scoring a touchdown from the 20 yard line against a 50 over all team on rookie... It's the easiest "challenge" on earth, but the long load times in Madden promote their microtransactions sytem. "Don't want to wait 60 seconds between challenges, just to earn 100 coins? Spend $0.30." In this case, Madden's long load times before a 20 second long challenge are the mobile game equivalent of a cool-down timer.

I actually like the concept better than the execution. If buying packs were a viable strategy for team building it would be cool but the reality is you're better off bidding at the AH for cards, and packs that you can buy for coins are badly underpowered. The market gets flooded with people who pay real money for cards and it makes it so that you can't come close to breaking even with the coin packs.

I completely agree. If there was a way to cut down the cheesing in-game, I would consider playing it as my only mode and stick to text-sims for my "franchise" needs. You just have to treat as a competition that only resembles football, and it can be a lot of fun.

To each his own but I just can't handle the online cheese. I also feel that MUT has put franchise development on the back burner which is unfortunate.
