It's just a matter of preference more than anything, I think. These are the pictures I sent T4Verts earlier
Here's Madden 19:

And Madden 18:

...both taken directly from the console. Madden 19 doesn't look bad but I prefer 18 in that scenario. That being said, games in New Orleans look amazing and when it comes to overcast weather, I do prefer 19 over 18.

Re: Lighting Patch?
Would you be able to enable HDR again as well as HDR screen capture, and then take a screenshot while in the game? Upload the screenshot to One Drive and post the link here. I would be interested to see this HDR screenshot on my own console and my own display, to see if there is really something wrong with your copy of the game.Anyone experiencing the issues on Xbox One X, please disable HDR on the console itself, in the settings menu. Let me know if your improvement in visuals is as dramatic as mine was.
This is not a TV issue. It is not a calibration issue. It is not a cable issue. It is very specific to this game, for many users.Comment

Re: Lighting Patch?
Right, which is why I hesitated to do it in the first place, but the improvement was huge and I'mglad I did. Like I said, for me it is a good temporary fix until they can resolve whatever is causing this, and I'd recommend giving it a shot to just turn it off when playing this game. Any major feature that is making a game look like doodoo, I am fine turning off until they can fix it.Yeah but then you've just disabled a major feature of the X...

My feelings exactly. If I could have 19's graphics with most of 18's lighting I'd have zero problems in this area. It's just a matter of preference more than anything, I think. These are the pictures I sent T4Verts earlier

Re: Lighting Patch?
There is nothing wrong with my copy of the game. I am here because I googled "Madden 19 HDR bad lighting" and this is one of several results. My friend and I both have the issue. I've seen enough discussion from people having the same problem (looks like wearing sunglasses, very washed out colors) to know it is widespread.Would you be able to enable HDR again as well as HDR screen capture, and then take a screenshot while in the game? I'd upload images but I've never messed around with One Drive and don't feel particularly inclined to do so 😁
But maybe someone else experiencing this could do so more efficiently than myself.Comment

1. If you've got a TV that unintelligently tone maps an HDR image, you will get a dark image
2. If you're used to putting your TV in torch mode in SDR, then HDR may look dimmer then you're used to at times
3. You might not be plugging your console directly into the TV, but may be using an AV receiver or other device in between that may be messing with the video signal
4. You just don't like the more realistic & natural look of the game and prefer the more cartoony look of the previous iterations.
5. Some bug that only affects certain users.Comment

1. No. All other HDR looks great. Fantastic image. There's nothing wrong with the lighting. There are several things that could be happening:

2. No, I would never use torch mode. I understand how to calibrate my television for its environment.
3. No. Console is plugged into tv. Again, all other HDR content looks great.
4. No. Looks fantastic when not in HDR. Best looking Madden yet by far.
There is a problem with HDR lighting on this game. Many of us are experiencing it.
Thank you for adding point #5. That is the only likely scenario.Last edited by InsomniaKiller; 08-08-2018, 02:47 PM.Comment

Re: Lighting Patch?
1. It doesn't matter how other games look. Not all games are mastered/graded the same. If you've got a TV that doesn't utilize an intelligent tone mapping algorithm, then some content will be negatively impacted by this, while other content can still look satisfactory.1. No. All other HDR looks great. Fantastic image.
2. No, I would never use torch mode. I understand how to calibrate my television for its environment.

2. Fair enough.
3. Fair enough.
4. Again, just as with 1, perhaps you do not like the HDR grading specifically. SDR and HDR have separate grades.
#5 could still be an option.Comment

Re: Lighting Patch?
Also, do you have color depth on your Xbox One X set to 8 bit or 10 bit? I know that some people had issues with HDR games when they had the option set to 10 bit. Setting it to 8 bit and enabling HDR will ensure that color depth automatically switches to 10 bit for HDR games, but it produces better results this way.1. No. All other HDR looks great. Fantastic image.

Re: Lighting Patch?
Any clue as to why this would fix it??
Does just running it in Windowed mode fix it so I can see how it looks without downloading and installing that other program?

Re: Lighting Patch?
My complaint isn't with shadows. It's the bright sunny days when the sun is high in the sky and there are no shadows. Everything is still so tinted, dim, and washed out. It's just a matter of preference more than anything, I think. These are the pictures I sent T4Verts earlier

I see no glaring issues with the screenshots you posted but as I said that isn't my issue. I think night games and late afternoon/evening games are fine as well. It's the 1 PM sunny games that look really bad to me.Last edited by ehh; 08-08-2018, 03:29 PM."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Lighting Patch?
I guess my issue is these same dark level shadows could be achieved in Madden 18 by making the contrast higher at this point raising the contrast in madden 19 makes the game totally unplayable because the game is already so naturally dark in certain situations. It's just a matter of preference more than anything, I think.
