    Guys, an easier workaround than trying to re-roll abilities is to switch control to the player who you want to change abilities on. Then you can choose your abilities, "retire" the player, and the abilities stick.

    When I set up my franchise, I kept one "user" as a coach (in case I wanted to change potentials or ratings to unlock abilities) and then would switch another profile from player to player that I wanted to add/remove abilities. I retired that profile when I was done and then saved that as my franchise base.

        So this is big! I dont know why I just brushed over this post when first reading it. Its not as complicated as i originally thought. So after playing around with it, I am starting to understand the madden "ability logic" more.

        For my first test I used Kyler. For ability slot #1 there are only 4 abilities to choose from, leap frog being the only scrambler ability. So what I am assuming happens is madden has "slot 1" reserved for only a couple abilities and it chooses which one based on the archetype, hence scramblers always getting leap frog. So still you cannot get escape artist on kyler but at least we can edit abilities a bit more this way and give him last ditch.

        This is gonna be my last hurrah i think for the abilities, EA seriously needs to allow us to edit players completely on the main menu roster and franchise mode this includes abilities, x factors and traits, its a big JOKE that we cant. Also, anyone notice we cant edit tight spirals anymore... What is wrong with this **** forreal?

          Use a profile to select a player controlled career and you can manually select the abilities.

          E.g. I want to change Cam Newton's abilities. So, I create a profile to start a career as Cam and make the ability changes I want.

          When I'm good, I retire that career and the changes stick.

          Note that certain abilities are tied to attributes or a combo of attributes, so playing with the ratings will open up some abilities that weren't showing.

          An example I can think of is I think it's Ju Ju Smith-Schuster's Double Me ability from the main menu switches to RAC Em in franchise. I went to change it only to find that Double Me wasn't available.

          I used a coach profile to play with ratings I thought might impact it and I was eventually able to get it to show up.

          So, play around with ratings and you might get some luck. If you're struggling, when I'm home later, I'll take a look at Kyler and see if I can figure the changes needed.

            Warning if you try and change Cam Newton abilities you will loose escape artist and won’t be able to get it back until he hits 95 overall. For some reason the Devs can get certain Qb escape artists before they hit 95 overall but we can’t.

              Yup, you're right...unfortunately, this is the case. I came across it when trying to taylor Kyler's ratings to Lamar Jackson, who also lost the ability when edited.

              There are certain abilities that are tied to ratings thresholds that the devs can override, but we can't.

              So, Escape Artist is tied to the 5th ability slot (along with human joystick) and Fastbreak to the 4th, meaning the only way to get Kyler Murray (or anyone else, for that matter) those kind of abilities is for them to be 95 rated with an X-factor dev trait.

                  Has anyone tried it with a created coach?

                  I am coach of the Pats, created Belicheck because he's stupid and won't be in the game... But whenever I tried to 'retire' him and use a player (I want to try Omaha since I don't play Ultimate Team, so I wanted to put it on Brady), he disappears when I switch back to coach. I saw a vid online of a guy doing it the same way (one user, switching back and forth between players and coach) and his created coach didn't disappear. Anyone know if it's a setting or something?

                      I started with a created user coach, then retired/created new character and did player edits, then retired the player/changed role back to coach, and the coach was gone and replaced with a generic EA generated coach.

                        Yeah I've only done it with existing coaches and don't get these results.

                          I see the same thing, yep.

                          What's odd is Escape Artist should really be the 1st ability unlocked from my POV. Young rookie qbs like Lamar and Kyler have one major advantage at a low overall: their ability to break the pocket. I love how Kyler tweeted that he is shocked he doesn't have the Escape Artist ability.

                              We need full control over setting these in roster edit, along with being able to edit IR status and the blasted salaries, too. You can do that in NBA 2K, why not in Madden?
