Yeah I know what you mean, online gaming has made playing the older games difficult, especially when you moved away from your hometown. Companies like EA and 2K purposely shut down their servers (even against our wishes) I'm order to force us to purchase the new titles. I'm stubborn so I no longer play online, except NBA 2K22 which I just purchased so me and my best friend (who is more of a basketball fan than football) can play online. That being said, I have no intention of purchasing another Madden game until they fix their broken engine and restore franchise mode to it's glory days. Until then, I'll continue playing the older titles in offline Franchise mode.

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
I remember this video game battle quite well. Ultimately, I went with Madden that year because I liked the gameplay, and I could use my NCAA draft. I really did appreciate what NFL2k5 did as far as presentation, pricing, and trying new things. It’s a shame it played out the way it did.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
Just remember y'all in '05 both football games was on their A game and 2k was playing catch up Believe it not
Back then EA wasn't getting the Madden is the same game every year slander Madden was a machine to the point 2k sold the game for 20 dollar and a bag of chips
The problem with Madden was in 07 on PS3/360 era
They broke so many things that didn't need to be fix
By making a new engine that was EA most horrible Decision ever and been mediocre since
But I think 2k was gonna eventually catch up and do them like NBA based on All-pro football
If EA is serious about sim gamplay they would ditch the frostbite Engine and make there own Engine specifically just for football and not this Lame excuses about sharing resources 🤦Comment

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
One of the quirky things about 2k5 was their sim engine. During franchise mode, you would think simming according to real game minutes would provide realistic sim stats (ex. sim 15 min qtrs = realistic stats)...nope. If you set sim stats to 15 min quarters at the end of the season the top RB will have like 4,000 yards rushing and the top passing QB would have like 9,000 yards passing lol. So you'd have to find that sweet spot somewhere around 8-9 minutes.
Also, full disclosure, during those days I was 100% a Madden/EA fanboy, so I didn't come to appreciate what 2k5 was until a few years later."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
Both of these games were amazing. Once EA rebuilt the game for ps3 with the infamous madden 06 the game became terrible. 16 games later and it’s mediocre at best

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
You don't see the hype because you're playing the game nearly 20 years after it was released, lol. At the time of its release, NFL 2k5 was a great game. It shows its age now. At the time of its release, Madden 05 was a great game. It also shows its age now.
Both games had their strengths and weaknesses. It's 2022, however. I'd love to see where football gaming would be today if the competition never ceased to exist, but that's not what timeline we're in. We're in a 2022 where Madden is all we get annually, and has been all we've gotten annually for the last near 17 years. We all know how that's gone as well. EA has had many flops over the years, and it would be fair to say that the series has not reached its potential since they got the exclusive rights.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
At the time, I was Madden all the way.
Didn't appreciate the depth of 2k until much later. It did things Madden has never even attempted, to this day.
So disheartening to think about where football gaming might be if these two were able to fight it out over the years.Last edited by Madden08PCgmr; 03-09-2022, 03:43 PM.You want free speech?

That was me too. I've started playing these games again on PCSX2/Retroarch on the Series X and I think Madden 07 is the best. It took all of the upgrades from 05 and 06 and added to 07 with really good gameplay. It's also the first game that allowed you to use any camera angle to watch CPU v CPU games. Madden 05 and 06 game you that real close up camera angle on spectator mode that's really a sight for sore eyes today.
I feel bad for the youngsters who never got a chance to experience what competition looked like when both 2k and Madden were making games...not to mention Microsoft and Sony making games as well."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
Nfl 2k5 is the most overrated sports game of all time...people still praise it like it was developed by Jesus Christ himself...yea, the animations were smoother and the presentation was a realistic representation of the real nfl, but play 10 straight games of 2k5 and you’ll see how repetitive the animations and presentation gets, as well as the cartoon voiceover-sounding commentary...nearly everything nfl 2k5 offered was standard for 2k titles of the time, go play nba 2k5 if you don’t believe me...oh waittt no one plays that sh*t anymoreComment

2k5 was amazing for its time. It plays poorly now in 2022, almost 18 years after it came out.

Re: NFL2K5 vs Madden 2005
nahh you people look at 2k5 with those tinted glasses...was it very good for its time? most definitely...was it amazing? no it was a standard football game that did a few things better than madden like player movement and presentation... I swear people cream themselves to a feature like the Crib in 2k5 (which was in all other 2k sports games at the time) and First Person Football (which causes seizures after 30 minutes of playing)Comment
