Monitoring the meta in MUT and keeping up.

In my mind I’d like there to be a thread on here where we discuss the online meta in MUT and ways to keep up with it. If you see something a lot of ppl are using in H2H please discuss it here so we can all keep up with the meta.

    1st things iv noticed….

    Opponents offense…

The best players so far are calling mostly man beaters. Aka slants, drags, corner routes. Iv played a couple top guys so far and they run great concepts. One i saw that was great was basically the mesh concept. I’m seeing ALOT of mesh-like concepts in MUT. Most ppl are putting X factors on their WRs/TEs and calling drags/slants/ins/outs/corners. A mock look ppl are giving me alot is gun bunch and then calling drags with the outer most WRs then a seam with the slot and a corner route with the TE who has deep out elite. So if you are a middle user-er you’ve got to pick one of the drags to defend and essentially your opponent will throw to the one you aren’t guarding. ALOT of ppl are doing this concept in MUT right now. How Iv limited this is Iv been seeing which offensive players have route running X factors and i make sure they are doubled. I’ll come out in let’s say dime formation, DB blitz. I’ll put the blitzing DBs in man on a different guy every play. I’ll obviously shade inside or outside depending on what routes i want to user. If i know I’m going to guard the corner route myself I’ll shade inside. If i know I’m going to user the middle I’ll shade outside. Doing this ppl haven’t been able to just call crossing stuff and throw it away from me. Some plays will look open but let’s say a drag comes from left to right. I’ll put blitzing DB on the right in man on that WR i think is going to drag from the left. So the play art looks silly but in game Iv been seeing GREAT success. (MAY POST VIDS OF THIS SOON)

    Opponent defense

Most people’s base defense is pretty straight up. Man blitz, or cover 3 or 4. Keep an eye out for audibles. If you hit a curl route and had success on it just assume the D will be playing underneath the next play. Not many players get beat by the same thing twice in a row. If a guy is in cover 3 and you Seam him just assume the seam is guarded the next play. Most guys will call the same D after giving up a solid play but they’ll do a defensive hot route to guard the specific thing you just beat them with. Just respect everyone’s IQ.

Stopping runs has been fairly simple. Match personnel, call intelligent formations and attack the gaps. Iv been living in nickel cub lately and Iv had success stopping passes and runs out of it. Iv only run into 2 HEAVY run users and i ended up killing both the same way. I limit their run and wait for them to pass. Both guys ended up throwing INT when they finally tried to pass. From what Iv seen this year the run is solid but it just isn’t as explosive as it used to be.

Here is an example of cross doubling and how Iv used it to stop a lot of the double drags/slants/ins.

Peep the play art. Pause the video and check my play art. It looks crazy but it’s effective. This guy had been running on me ALOT so i came out in goal line because i wanted to FORCE a pass. When this guy DID pass, it was ALWAYS double slants or drags. So there’s some context as to why I’m selling out so hard for the run here with goal line D. Usually i would do this out of nickel or dime. He was a HORRIBLE passer. As you can tell by him not even seeing that i messed up and left Christian Mac wide open in the flat.

Look specifically at Trey H and Micah Parsons. #91 and #11. Usually i would double Parsons on the A WR and Trey on the X WR but i kinda had a lot of adjustments to do very quickly so i didn’t get to do that. I was also supposed to user Christian myself but i was taking edibles and was very high at this point.

Im not saying run this exact D. As you see it was a horrible defensive call but what i set out to defend ended up getting defended. This example is literally just to show how my defenders reacted to the double drags.

Now imagine this look out of the dime. Your guys will lock up those drags even if they have short/mid in elite.

Iv been using various versions of this cross doubling idea and i have been having great success so far. Him going double running back backfield kinda screwed me up because I’ll usually guard the RB out route with whatever defender is on the side of the field the RB isn’t on but we got the stop.

Man D is really OP right now so most good players are constructing man beater route combos. So Iv seen ppl trend back towards zone but Iv been able to just reinforce my man D and now i stay in man for at least 80% of games. The idea is to help your CPU guard crossing routes. The CPU is pretty stout on streaks so you really don’t need to even put a safety over top of streaks and seams this year at least until EA releases faster WRs in MUT

Re: Monitoring the meta in MUT and keeping up.

Been seeing HB stretch a lot today from what i think is an i formation. If you don’t shift your d line outside the RB gets outside every time

Watch out. Look for a formation with 2WR tight. The audible ppl have been running out of it is a play where both WRs do outside routes. One is usually an out the other a corner. A drag is usually sent right to left too.

The 1st guy that ran it on me surprised me and he ended up winning by a FG. Saw it again and made dude quit
