    Scouting and scouts ?

I'm about to start a franchise and have a couple of questions.

I'm in the off-season and wondered if your scouts make any difference and if they do is it worth changing them. I don't see an option to change them though.

What do you actually do in scouting as the only option I see is liking a player.

Your main scout does scout 3 more focus players in the offseason, I think it's after week 3 of free agency.

You'll get an alert during week 1 of the regular season to hire your scouts for the new season, make sure to make your changes then.

Scouts can be hired/fired/reassigned during Week 1 of the regular season.
There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs to be credible.

They can also be hired/fired during the preseason but you don't know the draft class strength by region or position. But it's a good idea to check the pool of scouts (especially in online leagues) if you know you're going to need a specific position in the draft (such as hunting down your future franchise QB... QB scouts can get sucked up fast if there's high demand).

Scouting needs to be more in depth. All season long I don’t feel the need to check in on the prospects. When it comes time to draft I hardly know any of the guys I’m drafting. What I mean is there is no connection to a player. I don’t find myself loving a certain player because the scouting is so bland.

Use the scouting tools, I found they improved how you connected to generic players and helps build hype. Eg.

Early spot of gems, hoping they'll be there or do you draft early?

Falling in love with physical freaks but later seeing poor technicals.

Seeing amazing prospects you haven't scouted and planning a risky pick.

Really compare the difference between prospects using the scouting card function.

Seeing players drop and getting a great feeling by drafting good value later on.

I don't think that it is bland as much as that the menus are so poorly designed (and ridiculously slow) that it discourages people from digging into individual players - which is the core of the scouting design - to really look at the individual players throughout the process and follow along.

                This^^^^^

EA really opened up the draft class generator for m23 like never before. A parting gift from a great dev. But the menus/interface hinder the whole process.

this is 100% the problem - I could copy every bit of info from the draft class into a spreadsheet and it would be *so much* easier to go in depth on players and compare prospects but I shouldn't have to do that to make the scouting interface usable

Considering I had no idea how the scouting worked my first time, I would argue getting scouts right is a big help. And I feel it’s especially important if you’re go for scheme fits or changing schemes. All that being said, I think the best player available is still super important. You can always scheme fit them with upgrades until your head coach gets the right perk. (Scheme fit players get more training XP.)

It’ll also helps identify if the draft is even worth taking players in the first three rounds. I’m rebuilding a Falcons franchise and in year 3 offseason, I traded away most of my picks. I’m in year 4 and will likely do something very similar. The draft isn’t filled with needed players to fit my scheme. Might as well trade out for draft capital when a need can be filled.

With the way the scouting system works currently. I believe they are still useless. I never use them. In fact I have it set to automatic and rather its a guy they scouted or not by the star of the draft you have all the info you need to find players you want. The truth is you don't even have to look at a person through scouting and still there is enough info to pick favorite.

I believe until they make it where you get zero info on the ones that are not scouted then the scouts you choose will be useless. All you have to do is look in the physical tab I believe it's called where you see if they are great elite ect ect. That is all you need to determine which players to draft

                        This!

Combine and pro-day results are all I use. Players who test in the top 10 of their position group in all the drills are typically hidden dev trait players. Even players who test in the top 10 on 4 out of the 6 drills have a pretty good chance of being hidden dev trait prospects.
