Good job, Ian! I enjoyed the Pro-Tak blog as well. As a former 2K player who left Madden in 2004, I am glad to say that I will be back for Madden 10. I think you and the team are on the right path.
Madden 10 will be a marked improvement, and I'm sure there are going to be bright days ahead.Comment

Doesn't look great, but doesn't look bad either.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: A Deeper Look Into Pass Blocking
The blocking looked pretty good to me.
It's off topic, but I wish the last steps of the QB dropbacks were more fluid. You only see glimpses in the M10 vid that Ian posted, but I can see the awkwardness in it . I just wish they were more fluid like those in this youtube clip (included the link in case the vid doesn't show up; my embedding skills could use work):Last edited by RGiles36; 05-11-2009, 08:48 PM.Comment

Enlighten yourself. Its the way the QB moves at the end of the video. If you don't see it then you don't see it.Comment

I complained about it in Madden '07....nothing happened.
I complained about it in Madden '08....nothing happened.
I complained about it in Madden '09 (http://www.operationsports.com/forum....html).....and it looks like nothing is happening.
This one of my biggest pet peeves and year after year it goes unfixed. At least in last gen versions, the momentum was so great, it was hard to make sudden movements with your QB. The developers this gen seem completely oblivious that the problem exist."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: A Deeper Look Into Pass Blocking
Nice video i'm sure the graphics will look better on my tv as well as player color. Will the bigger ends bullrush guys instead of turning the outside like a pass rusher? since moves are used with the right stick now what about the run/pass call, will the new flow and rating length make help the star players find the ball on there own?Comment

I'm all for making sure the QB's step up and into their throws to be able to make completions down field, but I saw a clip on NFL Network of Cutler after a playaction fake, falling backwards and getting hit, firing a bullet spiral 20 yards downfield to his TE. It's rare, but I wouldn't want the game to make it impossible for things like this to happen, cause it does happen.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: A Deeper Look Into Pass Blocking
The ball carrier, and the blocker are both within range, so at that point it's a contest for who gets triggered, a tackle animation or a blocking animation. Closest guy to the defender wins. The closest guy in that scenario was the other offensive player (the blocker). Perhaps the block wasn't done as well as possible, and there's definitely no way to branch out of it (unless you dive, that seems to work pretty well, it's a trick I use to avoid blocks like the one in the video and the only time dive should ever be used in the game). Is the 2nd example really an example of a long running animation, or more of an example that you can't have a dual animation triggered, in other words, he should be getting blocked while reaching to make the tackle. Since there is no dual animation concept, the closest animation, based on context wins, and is triggered. In this case it's the blocking animation.
I also wanted to ask what was up with the ref in the backfield. If you watch him on the first play with Dallas on defense he is watching Flacco, but when Flacco rolls out of the pocket instead of the ref turning his head or lifting his feet up and turning his body, his whole body just kind of slides from left to right without moving. It looks really, really bad.
Otherwise it's a decent blog. But yeah the QB movement in the pocket is utterly atrocious as is the defensive linemen running straight into the o-line.Comment
