I see that there is still a suction or leap effect when a defender "jumps" off of their blocker and onto the ball carrier. I hope EA can get rid of that some day.

Use the actual youtube links. They aren't working on the EA Sports page. I'll post all the links just in case.
and then the hit stick video
Hopefully this works for you. The videos on their page weren't working for me either for some reason.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: Blocking Improvements Part 2 - The Run Game
Nothing happened to it. That is a stretch play and even in 08, double team and combo blocking ONLY occurred on stretch plays. That hasn't changed. The only question is if they occur on Iso's. So the question is one of extension not implementation. Now pass blocking is a different issue.Comment

Yeah, I see what you mean. I especially see what you mean with the "early disengage" video with Randliff (or whatever). I don't think this is going to be fixed but I really won't mind as long as the thought is realistic. ie. Ware's break-up of that running play.. it didn't look too smooth but it definitely would happen in real life.
I don't think it's going to be fixed because when you are able to break off of any animation AT ANYTIME this leaves a lot of room to be desired in footwork and momentum seeing as how these animations make them take a certain step right when YOU press the button .. and we press the button when we want to, not when the last animation ended or whatever..
I hope I was clear in trying to explain my thought process but I just thought I'd throw that out thereComment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: Blocking Improvements Part 2 - The Run Game
I'm not sure I like the Dline in these vids. I know this is put together for showcasing the improvements in Oline blocking, but the Dline seems to come off the line slow to me. Let's look at the first video and go to the 0:30 mark. Look have fast RG Randy Thomas gets outta there, but Spears does not even move. It's like he waits for the Tackle to get him. On the other side, Oshansky does not even fire into the blocker, he just sorta stands up and catches him, then gets rid of him.
If you look at the second video you get a better view. Look at the right side of the screen. Now I'm not saying Spears should have made the play or anything, but look at how the tackle is able to easily reach him then sorta turn him. How is this possible. He should have fired his head right into that damn gap. The Tackle should be blocking his outside shoulder, not sliding and then blocking him straight up and then almost turning him.
The third and fourth video look pretty good. I just gotta know though, Ian if you get a chance could you call crash right/crash left and see if the Dline actually fires to the gaps. Like this:
Very simple diagram, but the Dline needs to move in the direction I call. We need at least something to mimic a run fit.Comment

Re: Blog is up! Run blocking improvements...
Portis was jogging through the hole instead of getting low and exploding throught it. Anyone running that upright is asking to get blasted. Running animations has been a heavily discussed topic. I'm looking forward to the blog showing much more realistic running so we can just dead all the uncertainty.
The same goes for throwing animations. I'm beyond estatic to know that there will be different throwing animations. I just hope they look smooth, no bent knee, pretty follow through, not herky jerky or robotic looking.NFL:Colts

Re: Blog is up! Run blocking improvements...
I have to agree with Valdarez on the size of the hole, that was a HUGE hole. Furthermore, I'm still not happy with the run cycles. I'm hoping this is not the final run animations, and that Simon is still tuning them.
Otherwise, I love the run blocking improvements. I love to run the ball, so any improvements to make the run game more realistic is welcomed. Good job as always, I'm very excited for E3 now!Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: Blocking Improvements Part 2 - The Run Game
I got to say that new hit stick animation looks sooo great. The way the Cowboy player puts his shoulder into him and if u loop it over and over it just flat out looks really darn realistic.
i am not so happy with some of the tackling though. In one of the videos u can clearly see the suction tackling where the defended stops time so he can get the hit on the HB. This is the kind of thing that HAS to be fixed. It is sore on the eyes and it really hurts the gameplay because you never TRULY know if what u think in your mind should happen or if some MADDEn suction stuff is going to take over and screw you.Comment

I agree. Although I won't complain anytime I can see some gameplay vids. Hope the running animations are still being tuned (or sig running animations). Redskins need black/yellow cleats...Portis needs (and many other RB's) some beefing up in the legs and calves...
