And wasn't the team from last year replaced a team of devs/designers from the year before? I'm just asking.

On topic, OP, rent it. That's what I plan to do for the very first time ever for a Madden game.

Yeah, anyone who has been here long enough knows I have not been around the Madden boards in years after creating sliders and doing lots of work for the game in the PS2 era... I dealt with the garbage that was NCAA and finally had enough last year. Madden, while I don't expect it to be the best football game ever, has enough work put into it that I'm strongly considering a purchase on release day.

Might wait a day or so... we shall see! I'm still on the "buyer beware" mode.

Im skeptical for sure. Will probably wait to see what some OS vets say about it before I purchase, but im sure I will get it eventually. Probably even release day unless something terrible shows up.

But if APF was still making games I'm pretty sure i wouldn't even think about Madden.

I'm gonna share this before this thread gets closed. I think the real reason people are so mad about Madden or EA lack of progression is this. When we first started out with Madden. We had systems that could never fully replicate the NFL experience so we didn't care about running animations, or back pedals, or tron jugging, but with systems that can fully handle whatever you throw at it and then some. We feel like EA is playing us for some chumps. I for one couldn't wait for Madden 08 to drop on the ps3. I thought it would techno bowl, Goldeneye, and 2k5 all wrapped into one. The greatest game ever, but i was so blowed away with how terrible the game was i felt raped.

Then comes Madden 09 i figured EA would have all the bugs worked out, and would fully take advantage of next gen hardware. This would finally be the game of all games, but it was 08 dipped in gold. So me and probably a million others was like. I'm gonna wait and see before i commit to Madden 10. Can't have my girlfriend=Ea break my heart three years running.

Thoughts of the locomotion we tried out in ANT almost brings tears to my eye. I understand why it didn't make it (defensive AI not equipped to handle it, so they'd overrun the ball all the time), but it felt so good.

Just do with Madden what I do with girls -- rent them.

Actually, my sweetie would kill me if she saw that, so forget I said it. But I do rent Madden every year, so that part you might want to listen to.

As much as I'd like to say with any FB or baseball game that I'm "waiting"..
I know that's BS with me.
While I think Madden will be an extremely good game even if it seemed like it was another same ole same ole..I'd get it day one...at midnight...if not earlier...

I did it with NCAA. Said I was done and gonna wait and in less than a week I had the game 5 days early.

Gotta have my sports games...

So you are saying that if this game isn't good you will never buy Madden again? really?? You won't check out the boards next year to see what progress they are making? Yea sure.

I don't understand why we have threads like this. If this year isn't up to par, fine, don't buy it. But you know as well as anyone else that (as rgiles said) if you are a fan of the NFL you will be checking out what Madden has to offer again next year.

You may not buy it but you will still check it out.

I beg to differ. I have not purchased a madden game since 03, why? because I felt that 2k made better football games. After 2k5 was released, then killed by madden I didn't play video football games for 2years, that was before I discovered Finns Editor (what a great piece of work).

Now, I have never stopped coming to the Madden boards, visit them every year about this time but that does not mean I have any intention on buying the game. I rent it, or play it in the store (mostly this) and in 5 to 10 minutes I can tell where the game is going and how good it is going to be (I have played madden since the first one was released back in 90-91 I believe). So I fully understand what the original poster is saying.

I haven't bought Madden since '05. Every year since then I have either rented or played the demo and was not impressed. All I can do is do the same this year and hope that I am surprised. From what I've seen, I don't think I will be, but who can say. Around June of next year I'll start looking at the boards again to see what's "new." I gave Madden a "last chance" a while ago, but since it's the only game in town for NFL football, I'll have to keep updated with what's going on.

Yeah, I was impressed. Much of my enthusiasm was based on it. Once they work that out and make some other football fundamentals a priority, Madden will have re-arrived.

honestly, i think Madden '12 will be the peak of Madden success. last year was the first year i felt Madden even tried to make a decent game for next gen. then this year they've made even more improvements, but i assume the next 2 years will be somewhat focused on getting their physics and momentum issues resolved (as long as Ian's around and hears us out). then that'll be the masterpiece that could make the majority happy.

as long as there's major improvements year-to-year and we get as well informed about them as we are now, i don't really have a problem supporting Madden at this point.
