I agree, button mashing is sim. Try to tell that to the people who play FNR4. They complain because button mashing is cheap. I think they forgot that in real boxing, you can swing like a maniac which is kinda like button mashing. The sprint in madden should be controlled with button mashing because in theory, it does give you more control over your players speed rather then holding on to a button.
Why is button mashing considered to be not "sim"?

Originally posted by canes21Seriously I don't get why people say it is not sim. I love sim games and feel 2k8 did the best job to date so far. It had button mashing. Can someone please tell me why it is not sim at all?
I mean people complain about Fight for the Fumble because of the button mashing. I don't see what else EA could have done though. Button mashing is as violent as you can get with a controller and the fumble pile-ups are the most violent things in football and thats a fact. They kind of go hand in hand if you ask me.
Then people get angry and say its not "sim" when people want the option to button tap for sprint. If you ask me smashing A to sprint is a lot more realistic than holding a button. By holding the button your player will always go the same speed. By button smashing you can control your speed from a steady jog to a faster jog that allows you to cut, or you can go out and tap it fast and sprint. You basically control the ball carriers feet. The faster you tap, the faster he starts to move his legs.
I also notice people don't truly understand the concept behind button sprinting. They seem to think that it allows you to go past your max speed when in reality thats not true at all. Once you hit the "sprint" stage your runner runs to his 93 speed or whatever his rating may be. It doesn't allow Haynesworth to outrun McNabb for a pick 6 because I have a faster thumb.
The last thing I want to talk about is breaking or branching out of tackles with button mashing. People also seem to think this is fake or unsim. When you have to think about it though. Its not going to allow you to break out of someone who has a high 95 tackle rating. It gives you a fighting chance and allows you to pick up those extra yards. I also look at this as if you are controlling the runners feet once again. The faster you tap the button the faster and harder he keeps his feet moving so he can escape the tackle or at least gain those few yards needed for the first down.
Button mashing may seem like a bad idea or a gimmicky one too, but if you look at it, it really is a lot more realistic than you think.

If you would have read my post, then you would have seen your opinion had no truth to back it up.
As I said in the post, which you are supposed to read before you post in a topic, is that tapping faster than the other play won't make Haynesworth outrun McNabb 50 yards on a fumble return.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I didn't know it was mandatory that I read the OP post before posting in a thread. I didn't quote your post in mine.
He might not be able to outrun McNabb. However if I get tried while mashing buttons McNabb slows some, while the person that's mashing faster/longer (or using turbo) than me can maintain his top speed gaining extra yardage.
I didn't even vote in the poll, because I didn't want to mess up the results.Last edited by clarkboy; 08-06-2009, 10:46 PM.Comment

Re: Why is button mashing considered to be not "sim"?
No, but in the fumble pile the guy with the turbo controller will beat the player without over and over again, for something that in the sport is essentially a coin flip, thus making it less of a simulation of the result of the original. The more "sim" it is, the better it reflects the behavior of the original system it's imitating. That's not to say the mashing isn't fun or desirable, but merely less "sim".Comment

Again it was my opinion about button mashing. It wasn't meant to be supported by truth. I think button mashing is stupid. If you like it or think it makes games more sim then to each his own.

Don't forget, you don't have to "MASH" the button to sprint in 2k. You just tap it. In real football, you have to change speed and accelerate after a juke, hit or spin move. With Madden, you can do all that while sprinting. Show me the sim in that?Comment

Agreed, also tapping to break a tackle feels sim as you're mshing to fight and break the tackle, you're mashing had to fight hard; tapping to run, makes since faster you push faster runner goes, just like if he were really moving his legs the faster they moved the faster he's gonna go, and fight for the fumble, well make since here because you're button mashing fighting to get the bar on your side, for this I have no analogy but it makes sinceLast edited by herdfan; 08-06-2009, 11:25 PM.Comment
