Actually, I don't think they have them "mixed up", they just have both penalties called as "clipping". Just saves them lines of code and lines of audio. Lazy, but it is what it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I've just never had the ref call an illegal block in the back. It's always called as clipping.

I always disable roughing the passer and kicker.....I wish I could disable this as well,at least until it works right.

It's really sad that the only penalties ever called with any regularity are against the offense. I never even see d-linemen jumping offside. It makes for a much less realistic playing experience when the opposing DBs can completely interrupt a route 15 yard down the field and not only is the offense not rewarded for this, but they are actually punished because an otherwise perfect pass goes incomplete. It's especially annoying when said pass would have been a game winning reception.

Animations trigger penalties, and since none of these animations are present (except for tackling a WR), there are no penalties.
You don't have to tackle a WR to get PI called.

The two I saw called against the CPU (in the same game no less!) the DB didn't tackle the WR. On one, he ran into the WR (made full contact) but they sorta "bounced" (no animation) and went around but the flag was thrown (it was the slants play the coverage the DB was taking ran him into the slant coming from the other side and I had thrown the ball).

The second time, there actual was some sort of animation. The WR acted like he got shoved as the DB went through him to make the INT. Now why doesn't that happen more often...

Yeah, every time I see an animation for "clipping" it's always the illegal block in the back, not a low block/chop block on an engaged player.

This is the first time I've EVER seen an unnecessary roughness call in any football game. Has this happened to anyone else?
Nice to hear! I have had plenty of times where I thought the flag should be thrown for a late hit out of bonds but never seen it. I just really assumed it was not in the game, but I guess it is.

This really pisses me off. If you turn the offsides slider up to 100 though, you can catch CPU linebackers jumping offsides and if you hike it at the right time, you get a free play. Had this happen twice, but sadly it only happened on run plays, so I couldn't pull off the classic "throw a deep bomb on the free play" attempt.

                Re: Unnecessary Roughness!

This is the type of stuff I hope they put some attention to detail in for M13. Penalties are a great way to regulate "arcade" play in Madden, if done well. With all the defenseless receiver penalties being called this year, the hit stick should carry a strong chance of a personal foul. This is not NFL Blitz for Pete's sake.

                  Re: Unnecessary Roughness!

Seems I get a holding and false start being called at least once every series when I'm on offense. How many times are they called during a game on average?

Does the game really take in to effect the "home field advantage" of having false start calls being made more on the visiting team than the home team?
