Re: Madden 13: Buy or No Buy

As someone who has been a little bit too anal about rosters in the past, I think that I'm just going to go into Madden 13 with an open mind. Last year I spent more time controlling all the teams and making sure that all the UFA were out of the game than I did actually playing franchise.

This year, I'm going to give EA a pass and just not worry about every little move or every player that plays better/worse in real life than there ratings indicate in the game. Once I start my franchise(s), I'm just going to forget all about the real world and lose myself in my own little football fantasy world.

I can't say that I'm not disappointed (especially with the news of no importing drafts classes), but with all the new innovations that they've added this year, they have earned a day one purchase from me.

Re: Madden 13: Buy or No Buy

I would be a guaranteed purchase but for one thing; the removal of offline co-op.

I can't believe that they've removed my sole gameplay preference. I'm always very tolerant of the gameplay issues that often get highlighted each year, but to remove the only mode the I ever play is truly gutting.

The sport of football is all about teamwork and playing 3 player co-op is a hugely enjoyable way of representing that aspect. I can't believe they've done this as I have no interest in single player gaming.

I said no, but I probably shouldn't have even voted because I wasn't going to buy regardless of what they announced at E3 or hereafter.

Im mainly an offline player. Really enjoyed 12. played almost 15 seasons on 12 offline and 2-3 online with ppl. upgrades are nice but if ofline is scrapped with edits and such no doubt i DONT buy this game. i almost didnt buy 12 but it really looked impressive. I will stick with madden 12 and wait for competition if there is no simliar game. I always hate maddens rosters and especially their progrssion. Their online franchise always blows. THIS IS A JOKE.

The only storylines im worried about are a teams run to playoffs / Super Bowl and individual accomplishments, nothing that requires a twitter implementation to accomplish.

The time it took to implement twitter feeds could have been used to implement custom playbooks and player editing. Adding twitter feeds but not gameplay depth options to me shows a clear lack of focus on the developers part, again showing why I don't have faith in EA to release a competent NFL video game, because they are more worried about twitter than they are in fixing the issues of the actual game.
You need storylines so you know what is going on with your league. In 12 people had no idea what was going on with other teams.

Storylines are needed for the same reason that fans in real life watch sportscenter, pre-game shows, post-game shows, read the sports section, go to sports forums, watch the NFL networks, etc.

Though, if the player is controlling all 32 teams, it might not be necessary.

Storylines are very important part of a "living" league making it deeper and not so stale. Yes, trust me I know we would rather have features such as editing but storylines are a great addition. It is so boring just drafting a guy from a college you only know ratings and nothing else. In real life, you know about their college story and now we get to connect with the players we draft.

I love the addition but had that they took editing out and other features people loved.

P.S. - I guarantee you it takes A LOT longer to do editing, custom playbooks, etc then it did to add the twitter feeds..

I could not disagree more. I'd prefer the ability to edit in "Robert Woods" from USC than have a storyline with a generic guy from USC with a storyline.
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!

I went through about four 360s before buying a PS3.

So far my PS3 has outlasted at least two of my 360s.

It is easy to find out what is going on with other teams. You look at standings, stats, and transactions. In every franchise mode I have ever played, I have always known what was going on around the league, I didn't need twitter feeds to tell me.

What's funny is that this exact same conversation regarding being aware was brought up a month or two back in regards to having a weekly highlight show. And in that thread there was the resounding feeling of people not wanting to have do such things to know what's going on in the league.

Just goes to show how truly broad the Madden scope is to different people.

To me, it's like the difference between watching a Game of Thrones episode, and reading a recap on TV.com or Wikipedia. Yeah, you can get all of the factual information and use your imagination to paint your own picture, but it's not the same.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

It's more or less of a result of the many major issues the game has that makes people hate the idea of incorporating such things when the core game of football has been poorly implemented in general.

                              This.

My favorite ever franchise experience was NFL 2K5 and I think whether you are a 2K fanboy or not, I think its safe to say that NFL 2K5 is lacking in features in franchise mode.

But it was the best experience I've had because the on field play was fundamentally sound, and the features that were there ensured that I had control over my team, from the schemes and philosophies to the #'s on the jersey. That game's weekly highlights helped push that game over the top, because they were nice additions to a very strong foundation. Madden doesn't have that foundation, it coasts off of being the only game in town and relies on Twitter feeds to impress instead of gameplay.

Again, I like the idea of twitter feeds and weekly highlight shows, but all of that is completely unimpressive when the on field gameplay is fundamentally flawed to its very core. While people in this thread are saying they don't want to "imagine" what's going on around the league, I don't want to have to "imagine" that the game I just finished played out in a realistic fashion.

2K's gameplay was great. The passing game was nearly flawless for it's time, I actually to step up into a pocket sometimes, the footplanting and player movement was there.

The ONLY two gripes I have with 2K is more or less how at times, when you do the QB avoidance, the QB will throw a pump fake and then/or throw a wounded duck. And the Left Stick control doesn't seem to control the QB's movement well. Well maybe it's just me.
