The direction of Take-Two Interactive seems clear now, they want a simulation and arcade version of every 2KSPORTS title. Subsequently creating two revenue streams.

    Visual Concepts (Simulation)
    NBA 2K
    NFL 2K
    WWE 2K

    Saber Interactive (Arcade)
    NBA 2K Playground
    NFL 2K ___ground
    WWE Battleground

what 2k is banking on is, game-play mechanics and features.
They can release an NFL arcade game with better mechanics, animations, and features than EA.

they could potentially release an NFL game with the old NFL2k5 and APF2k8 mechanics/animations and update the graphics with SMB type graphics, give it some light heart-ed play by play and a multi season/franchise mode. IMO, that would fall under the category of arcade.

it doesnt have to be over the top, tackles or quirkiness for it to be arcade.

In addition, the basic gameplay rules for football arent owned by the NFL, are they? College football, HS football, and countless of other leagues use the same basic rules for football.

I think SMB is the path to better sports games. That game, on the field, is as strategic and deep as The Show. But it does not get weighed down in realism. Instead, they dove deep in mechanics and tuned the game to just play really fair.

I would love an SMB take on all the other sports.

But the return of 2K Sports to the gridiron won’t impact EA Sports or its popular Madden franchise.

            Thanks for sharing that,

            Some takeaways:

They speculate what "simulation" gaming means but they don't know anymore about the agreement then anyone here so It's really t:he same thing we've been doing.

Found this interesting and pretty believable:

EA, which downplayed the announcement in a press release, is unlikely to give up its exclusivity on simulation games anytime soon, either. Its current agreement with the NFL and NFL Players Association (which Take-Two did not announce a deal with) is set to expire in 2022. And both Pachter and Niko Partners’ Daniel Ahmad expect the deals to be renewed.
Not so sure about this one:

Getting fully back into the NFL simulation game would be extremely expensive for Take-Two. One of the chief expenses in sports games is the cost to render the players’ likenesses-in other words, to create lifelike animated facial models, which give in-game players a photo-realistic appearance. Take-Two would have to start from scratch to build that database.

2k now has a NFLPA license. They didn't when this deal was announced.

Not so sure about this one:
Man... Pachter hasn't gotten a leak right since 2013 and when it comes to sports games, you'd really be grabbing! The guy knows nothing.. Especially with everybody being shut down due to the epidemic, id be willing to call him a liar flat out on this one!! NOPE!!!

To think that the NFL said and I quote " They're looking to expand/push the envelope " debunks that theory and on top of that, TAKE TWO has already set the tone that they are looking for a piece of that action.. The NFL will not have an exclusive license for sale come late 2021!! Anybody will be able to make a football game on the grounds of their guidelines and of course their bank books! EA SPORTS is not handcuffing a thing this generation!! Too much potential!! Tell Micheal Patcher to re-read that NFL tweet!! Nope!!

Doubters and naysayers are open to any quality game, the competition has largely just declined to compete or was not supported enough to be viable.

I am kind of surprised that they didn't formally announce the NFLPA 2K deal. I guess after the new CBA was agreed on, they quickly and quietly got the deal done.
I just hope that in some fashion reveals what the projects are this summer. Hooefully at the IGN digital event in June, 2k can make an announcement on it. It would be with 12-14 months away at that point.

NFLPA licensing wouldn't have anything to do with a labor agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA.

We are getting WWE battlegrounds but in football. It's going to be a big head arcade game.

100% agree and it's why I'll support Metalhead this year again! My true sports dream would be to see them make a game for all of the "big 4" sports and more! Such a great game with a ton of customization options. Truly a perfect balance between "realism" and fun!
