Re: Upcoming 2K Football Game Delayed Until at Least 2022

You're probably right, but even a teaser would go a long way for setting expectations. Everyone in this thread has their take on what the gameplay could be like. I would think at this point in development that they should have the capability of presenting something that at least shows what they are aiming for. Even if it's 10 seconds long, we'll all pretty much know if it's an APF sequel, NFL Playgrounds, or a card game.

If they reveal it's some type of card game, at least I'll know that I won't have to keep checking up on this thread for updates

I fail to understand how the execs at 2K have allowed other companies to put out football games and take a piece of the financial pie and not throw their own hats into the race. How do they not see the potential to cut into Maddens profits by sheer virtue of a name to do so. I have all but given up on the thought of 2K football coming back. There is a huge market that they ignoring.

I think he was talking about allowing EA to bully 2k with college/NFL License and now nobody gonna pay attention to 2k itty bitty arcade street/park football compared to EA
            NFL/College simulation games.

I don't care what anyone says,EA College football coming back announcement killed most of 2k hype 🤷

NCAA football sells about 1 million copies a year. By the time you pay licensing fees that’s not a huge profit imo. EA can make the college game because they are basically copying and pasting Madden gameplay with college skins.

Without an NFL game to match with college there really wasn’t much 2k could do in the football market. 2k tried generic football with APF2k8 against the turd that was madden 08 and madden 08 outsold it 10-1.

I don’t think EA college killed 2k hype. 2k hasn’t said a peep since the nfl agreement was announced. Everyone still trying to figure out if this is even a football game or Jeopardy NFL edition featuring host Aaron Rodgers.

                I agree.

The new CFB will likely sell very well year 1 and maybe year 2 just from the long absence and demand. But, it'll quickly even it self out. NCAA sold mostly around 1-3 million a year. Most just got it as something to hold them off until Madden came out. I remember EA saying that the very next year after NCAA Football stopped, that they brought in as much revenue from UT as they did with NCAA Football. So it wasn't like they were losing out on money with CFB out of the picture.

NCAA Football was almost like a passion project for EA Sports. As long as they weren't losing money on it, they had the green light. With using most of Madden's assets, it allowed NCAA devs to focus on modes and college specific things. That's why some liked NCAA Football over Madden. I always felt that NCAA had more creative freedom than Madden because they could just focus on the core experience.

But for another company, it really isn't worth it. You're not going to invest a ton of money to build a engine and all that for a game that might only sell 2-3 million in an average year. This is the type of game where you need something else to build off of and you're not focused on sales. College Basketball wouldn't make sense for EA right now especially with Live being MIA. It would make sense for 2k because they could use most of the assets from NBA2K and that they wouldn't have to "sell well". But, I don't think the College Basketball games ever sold that well. 2k dropped CHoops because it wasn't selling well and EA stopped because of that and the O'Bannon suit. I don't think CBB in general isn't as marketable as CFB. There's a big gap. The common fan isn't as tuned into to CBB until March Madness

Crazy idea and probably not going to happen but what if they remaster NFL 2k5 and include it in this new non sim title as a classic mode. Kinda like how NHL 14 had a NHL 94 classic mode.

I realize that people here just really want another 2K sim football game, but folks are always making suggestions that would have Take-Two getting sued and losing in court over and over again.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Yup at this point I just want info on what the game is, we already know what it’s not lol

ITs best that 2k take their time, instead of releasing a subpar game.

I personally think the development team will only have one shot to get the game right. they cant have any missteps.

Personally, I wish that they would release a new version of APF2k8 with a franchise mode.
They just have to be realistic with the potential sales numbers. but triple AAA game developers are different independent game developers.

Seriously, like surely they have to be seeing how much potential they have to gain from the football market. Also they surely have to know 2k5 has a cult following, and plenty of people have bashed Madden on just about every media platform (YouTube, Twitter, here, IGN, word to mouth, metacritic, etc...).

WWE 2k Battlegrounds came out last year and already on playstation plus (didn't sell well) imagine 2k playground football going up against two juggernauts Madden& College football this might end up ugly for 2k they better sell it for 30 bucks

What a money waste on the license if this is truly a playground/park/battlegrounds/street

Yeah I'm hoping despite not being a sim style game, it doesn't mean it will be cartoony like WWE battlegrounds. If it was like NFL street with physics that would be cool. Like no way they would delay a game just to make battlegrounds 2.0, it can't take that long to make that style of game.
