It helps if you tweak the players attributes. One of the problems that you will run into is pass completion % and int's. This can be handle by tweaking attributes for QB,LB,CB,SS, & FS. Most of the guys on here have done this to offset this issue.

Yep, this game is fantastic.

I am currently in my 8th season with a Bears franchise and loving it. (I play 3-5 games a season and sim the rest.) Unfortunately Brian Urlacher (92 OVR) and Lance Briggs (85 OVR) retired at the end of the last season. Couldn't find any solid LB's from the FA and I am stuck with rookie LB's replacing Urlacher and Briggs at 75 OVR and 72 OVR respectfully. My pass and run defense productivity have dropped significantly.

You're putting coverage at 5? Do they stop anything (serious question)? Can they get to the sidelines to stop the backs? I have mine inthe high 40s to high 60s range and get enough passes through to satisfy me there. I would think that a value of 5 would allow you to eat them alive in the middle and flats.

I finally found this game too, a couple months ago i went to my gamestop and the guy who worked there had said their copy of the game looked like someone played hockey with the dis it was that bad, i got the game for .89 because i signed up for that edge member thing. i need help with cap management because i never have any money to sign rookies after fa (i was the cards and signed kurt warner and rahime brock) i only had like 2million left

I had the same problem with my franchise before. The best thing that works for me is to release players in the high 80's to 90's since they demand more money. You can easily replace them with someone in the 75-85 range for a lot less money.

Also check for players on your team with huge contracts, but are in the lower 70's range and have little to no bonus money. Simply releasing them is one way of saving money. Those guys can eat up your cap if you have a few of them.

Personal Comparison:

I bought madden 09 3 days before the release date. I never turned the game on ever again 2 weeks later.

I got APF the day it came off and took off the summer of 08 for madden 09... and I have been continuously playing APF ever since. It is my all time favorite game, with Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES being number 2 and Starcraft being number 3.

The comparisons go on forever. It's sad. If you even TRY to get excited to play madden, it just doesn't happen at this point because of 2k's football game. I tried really hard to like Madden and it just didn't happen.

I'm partisan for a better product, but I'm not partisan for either company's success. I just want a freaking good football game to play. My money is just waiting to be thrown at EA if they can actually put together decent gameplay. DECENT not even superior! It just can't be the inferior stuff I've seen the past 5+ years.

I bought 2k5 when it came out of a whim because it was $19.99 I couldn't have been happyer with my purchase. However because this thread is filled why reasons why 2k5 is so great, I thought i should play Devil's Advocate and post some places where 2k5 SUCKS at.

POOR AI problems:
Full backs that totaly miss a block that is right in front of them only to spin around in a hufe circleto come back when it is to late, and end up missing a possible second block becasue they were so busy spinning around after missign the first one.

Defesive backs that will just abandon the coverage and do the same silly spin as the FB allowing big gains and many tiems TDs. Just last night iplayed a game adn threw a ball up to my recicer in 1-on-1 coverage and took a chance. They were jossling, the animations was breath taking, fluid, smooth... then.. what? the DB just stops and spins in a circle adn leaves a huge gap for my reciver to get the ball and score? Oh yeah, I remeber that happening when I played online and had to call cover 2 or cover 3 every play to avoid dumb stuff like this giving up free points.

Defensive players who are not on the line that are oblivious to a scrambling QB. There were FAR too many times that somebody would scramble out of the pocket with McNabb and run right up to and past Ty Law or Rodney Harrison in Flats Coverage becasue they fail to recognize a scramblign QB. Then once he passes the Line of Scrimage they turn to chase him giving up big yards. And, no you don't tunr into the defender at that point becase they are scrambling to buy time to lob it up to Owens and if you stop your coverage to sac McNabb, he will just stop adn lob it to the now uncovered T.O.

At one point I was a top 100 Player on 2k5 becasue you had to do the most crazy non-sim things to stop these cheesers. Calling 3-2 Dime and Nickle formations with slot corners blitzing to contain McNabb alone.

Let us also forget how hard it is to throw to the flats in this game. if you throw the ball after your rop to the flats, it will most every time just bounce off of a players helmet of shoulder. The only sucess I had throwing out routes and flat patterns and screns in 2k5 was to move the qb around, set his feet and throw a bullet. this shouln't be the case but touh passes and timing drop backs just end poorly every time. Don;t get me wrong I can throw other routes with perfection and have had online games were Tom Brady went 23 of 23. I just didn't throw outs and flat patterns in that game and those types of games.

If i ever get a wb cam thingy I'll make a video and show you uys if there are any doubters.

All that being said, I LOVE this game and puting it back in only makes me sad again that Madden is so bad still.

The best thing you can do with any team you play with is at off season, let ur players retire if you think they can't play as good anymore, that'll free up some. When its time to resign players, its a little tricky, cause some players has a different type of payment, and the payment affects ur cap salary. like if jason sehorn is paid by balance, u might come out better or worse by paying him front load, it'll show improvement or vice versa in the interest slider. but also pick a payment thats suitable to you that'll keep you with the most left over. THEN, give your resigning players a 70% bonus (helps ALOT) and seven years contract. DO NOT MAX OUT THE INTEREST SLIDER, you can still sign a player with the junction bar redless.
And instead of you picking so many players in the free agent, (optional advice) just skip the free agent and combine and enter the draft. when its your turn, back out and go to ESPN.com and go to rookies and edit a player for ur desired position. you can max him out or give him suitable attributes for his position, but this is THEE BEST WAY to save alot of money. I created myself on the game for salary testing. I maxed out my player with all 99s and I signed him 4.88m w/ 7.97m bonus, which is a total of 79.71m. but make sure its ur turn when u edit the rookie, don't do it before the draft, only while ur in the draft. Other than that, it does wonders lol

Good luck with hoping Madden will come out with a good game again bro. Don't get me all wrong, Madden is the reason why I live for football (Kinda). My football days started with Madden 93 or 94 for the super nes. Then in 2001, my aunt taught me how to master madden. Then it took a turn for me when I played ESPN NFL 2k5, that's when I really became humble about things and how far imaginations can do beyond realistic. To be honest with you, if it wasn't for NFL 2k5 funny running style with the butt sticking out crazy, you can't tell the difference between the game and the actually NFL. Then it took another turn for me when I went back down memory lane and played "Super High Impact" for the sega genesis (i tried the super nes version, genesis is better, they got the dirty version) "Super High Impact" is a game to love over Madden as well. For the people who don't know what "Super High Impact" is, just imaging "Blitz" in a 64x bit. If "Super High Impact" was to make another game for the current gen, then Madden will be in all hells of trouble. Cause it's sad that I have to back in time just to play a good football game. Madden has done nothing for me since Madden 06. Madden 06 has a venture of new things, Madden 07, 08, & 09 is just a new title on a Madden 06 game. I understand its a recession but come on EA, your creativity and effortness DOES NOT go on a recession as well lol. But ever since ESPN NFL 2k5 (I missed out on 2k2? 2k3, & 2k4), I will never play Madden. Madden will NNNNNEEEEVVERR, EEEEVVVEEEEERR..be the same again lol. And who ever said NBA 2k is almost better than NBA Live...... NBA Live gives you the same thing over the years, same Dunks in the Dunk contest, Same shooting style, same atmosphere, same excitement. NBA 2k is far superior just like it's brother NFL 2k.

What i'm confused about is why can't ( Madden/2k sports ) Just come together and just make one good game. Hands down to NFL 2K Sports graphic is crazy. madden to me is always the same every year, it's the same crap, EA hypes everyone up, and then when you actually play the game it's no different then the year before. And please do something diffrent when you win a SUPERBOWL, like come on are you kidding me!! the last 2 yrs its the same exact thing. ( NFL 2K ) has the best halftime show, they show you touch down for touch down for touch. EA SPORTS you guy's gotta step your game up.

More like Pepsi was given exclusive rights to make all cola products by the US governtment patent office. Now RC cola and others can't make cola any more. As a result Coke decided to join forces with Pepsi to make the best cola ever in exchange for being able to share in the pofits.

One of my questions is why VC doesn't make DLC for 2k5 and updates. I understand why they can't make new players and such becasue of the deal with the NFLPA, but maybe charge money on XBox Live and PS3 for new DLC to update their product 2k5 which already DOES have the NFL license.

Also, idon't know why they made APF2k8 and didn't make a 2k9 with more improvements and features. I was reading a review of 2k8 and there are a lot of things they could have done better adn really opened up the game. Like allowing as many star players on your team so you can really have your All-Time dream team play against your friend's All-Time Team. Why so few teams? why not have a similar system to NFL post season?

Ugh, there are so many things that 2k8 could have done better... [not to say it's a bad game]

P.S. the NFL license DOES mean that much to me. that's why I play 2k5 over 2k8.

I myself believe that Tecmo Super Bowl is the greatest game of all-time (football or otherwise). But after 15 years you want something with a little more depth. So I went out and bought a Wii and Madden 07... Though the motion controls were neat and creating my own franchise was fun (the Galveston Penguins!) I was surprised at how BORING the game was to play. I mean, really? A game with a decade and a half on Tecmo can’t do better? Or at least hold my attention? I was barely interested enough to finish out the lackluster super bowl. (And don’t forget the little problems: no custom franchise playbook, poor AI, stupid animations, glitch-city…big-fat john!)

So I sold that piece of crap and cried myself to sleep every night. Eventually I pored over forums, listened to the community, and went out to purchase 2k5 last month…
