    Re: I JUST FOUND NFL2K5 AND PLAYED--WOW!!!

Yeah, I'm a noob too. I started a few weeks ago by picking up the PS3 version. Then I realized there are more support for the xbox version. If you have a HDTV that is the version to play. Man this game is amazing on the Xbox. I play it on my xbox 360. It's like having a bran new game.

All Pro 2k8 is pretty good too with even better graphics and animation. But it's a bit more difficult to get attached to it due to no franchise and you can't recreate the players like you want. The overall presentation in 2k5 is also better. I love how the fans and cheerleaders show up in rain gear when it rains. Or how about the cheerleaders hair going flat and looking nasty in the rain? So far this is my favorite football game of all time.

Maybe the only thing I've found not to my liking is that if you have good WR 87 rated or higher you can dominate the cpu to the tune of 13 catches and 300 yards on 9-min quarters. It makes playing offense a little too easy. I play on some All Pro sliders I found here.

9 minute quarters is probably a little long for this gsme. Many prefer 8 minute quarters. I play 7 minutes qtrs. myself.

Yeah, the scores end up being high. The only problem is that I dont' think I get enough plays on 8-min quarters. 9-min seem to give about the right number of plays. I'll play around with 8-min though. I appreciate the feedback.

Ya I did...I have been a loyal Madden customer since its inception.....Never played a 2k football game in my life....I payed $70.00 for Madden 10 and its not even close to being as good as 2K5.,,.Madden has become stale and its lack of progression is discouraging........

So yes, I had to make a post telling people that I paid $1.12 for a game that is almost 6yrs old and is better than Madden 10.....so like the thread states "I JUST FOUND NFL2K5 AND PLAYED--WOW!!!"......This game is amazing.....

Let me preface this by saying I love this year's Madden, so this isn't biased one way or another. That said.....

I just played game one of my Browns franchise, using the new roster and schedule converted to PS3 found here at the forums.

I couldn't believe the difference! You wanna talk about SMART AI? This is it. I tried two passes in a row to the left sideline----one was complete to Edwards for the first, the second, he was doubled and the pass batted down. Now THAT'S adaptive AI! Also, I ran Lewis up the middle for a 6 yard gain. Next play, I tried it again, but they stuffed me at the LOS!

Also, one particular play still stands out in my head----First and Goal from the nine. I run Vickers up the middle, then I stutter to the left, and he gets in for the score. On replay after replay, I watched in utter amazement as my O-Line actually picked up their blocks and cleared the way for me! Even Jamal Lewis threw a block just past the LOS that would've resulted in a non-TD. It was such a difference than the questionable O-line blocking in Madden.

I cannot forget to mention that on defense, how cool it is to move my CB's in, out, back, or press in coverage.
Defending the flats in Madden is near impossible....not so in this game. Sure, there'll be missed tackles here and there, but at least my guys were covering the flats well.

Did I mention replays-----at the appropriate times!? First downs.....long pass plays.....and touchdowns!!!

In closing,I'm still gonna play a full franchise, every game in Madden. But for those on the fence, 2k5 is still great.I may even go back and forth between the two. I had a great time beating Minnesota 24-23!

BTW, I've had 2k5 since last year, when I passed on Madden 09. I'm still just amazed at how this game plays.

The ONLY way that Madden will ever surpass 2K5 is if they someway somehow acquire Visual Concepts and let them develop Madden. Other than that, it isnt going to happen at least not in my life time. Tee hee.

                      Re: I JUST FOUND NFL2K5 AND PLAYED--WOW!!!

I too just started playing this game for the 360 and I can't believe I waited so long to check it out. Since giving up Madden after 06 and after 2K gave up on the APF series, I just have been doing with out football games. Now I want to kick myself for not taking advantage of this gem of a game until now. I got this game for $1.99 at my local Microcenter and that is truly a steal.

It took me a while to get used to controls since I haven't played APF in over a year and was just coming off of playing Madden 10 (rental). Once I got the controls down, I didn't even play Madden anymore even though I had 4 days left on the rental.

My only other gripe was that it was weird playing with the 2005 - 2006 rosters but once I got the roster update and later on the NFL 2K5 editor that allowed me to change the NFL schedule to the current one, I really can't stop playing this game. The graphics while not next gen are still very good and this coupled with great game play make this the best football game I've ever played.

As with any game, I have some complaints:

                      1) running the ball; I just can't seem to get this down. It seems very hard to get a consistent run game. Either your players miss obvious blocks, or the AI is just too damn smart. I've broke a few, but most of my runs are 2 yards or less. Maybe its my technique. I've gotten some 100 yard games, but it was only because I happened to break a long run during the game.

                      2) there seems to be too many dropped passes, not sure if there is a catch button on offense, but if there is I would hope it would alleviate some of the drops.

With these complaints, at least its consistent on both sides of the ball. The CPU drops a lot of passes too, and very hard for them to get decent gains on a consistent basis. So I suppose that evens it out a little.

                      3) The CPU kickers seems to always get of "Max Power" punts and Kickoffs, kind of annoying, but nothing too bad.

                      4) Finally cosmetic wise kind of sucks the Visiting team can't chose their default home jerseys when the home team is wearing their white jerseys (i.e. Dallas Cowboys).

Even with the complaints this game is still a blast to play and despite the problems it doesn't seem unfair because it happens on both sides of the ball. There are no impossible plays that could never happen in real life (jumping 20 feet in the air for an INT, players skating to the ball, phantom penalties, or obvious missed calls or having challenges overturned/upheld when the replay obviously shows otherwise).

The presentation is unbelievable as well; from halftime show, highlights from other games, post game comments from the player of the game; showing fans in the stands or tailgating outside of the stadium. Being able to watch Sport Center in the game is pretty cool and even the screen that show the game results are authentic, complete with who the team plays next. 2K5 took excellent advantage of having ESPN rights.

2K's presentation makes me feel like I'm more in the game and its good that they realized that presentation is a very important part to keeping the game from becoming boring.

With the roster updates and the 2K5 editor this game doesn't even feel like its 5 years old, I see myself playing this from now on.

hey, I really want Madden to be better than 2k5, because all i care about is the game itself, not the company behind it.. but Madden is still nowhere near 2k5 in every aspect (except graphics), and that is truly sad..

and anyone who says otherwise or who blindy defends EA/Tiburon/Ian is just in denial, pure and simple..

2k is still the champ.. unfortunately

I control all 32 teams, so I can manually make that happen.

Also helpful when I play San Diego and switch their uni's to the powder blues vice the dark blue ones they wore in 05.

                            1) This can be a combination of many thing both attribute and slider wise. I think if you play using the extremes of the sliders to start with you can figure out what works for you.

                            2) Again unless maximizing sliders doesn't work for you and the cpu (and it probably won't) you'll have to used tweaked rosters a la the editor (or tweak what you think is important yourself).

                            3) I know whatyou mean about kickers. The other complaint is that they are not accurate enough. Again, kick acc. tweak seems necessary. This one is easy to do if you don't want to fool with the editor. (Actually the opposite was needed for 2K4 kickers if memory serves me.)

                            4) What Segan said.....control all 32 teams.

                            Good luck.

I have to agree with pretty much everything here. I just picked up 2k5 for PS2 and man, this game is lights out! I like Madden 10 (360) but you can see that the game is still behind 2k5 when it comes to certain aspects.

And, I'm playing on default rosters, too. Weird seeing Kurt Warner on the Giants.
