one more thing erod, try the game for a franchise or season. one thing sega has always had is the cpu will take the outs and favorite plays away in time. it is susceptible to the flag and corner patterns, but those are the hardest to defend in real life.

Re: Scattershooting observations from a longtime critic of the 2K seri
I've always felt that the 2k ai doesn't take anything away from you until about the middle of the 2nd quarter. It take the time to "learn" what you do. If you change up from that point, then it has to relearn your play.Comment

Re: Scattershooting observations from a longtime critic of the 2K series
Erod, what did you think of the shadows in Texas Stadium. I think the lighting is amazing, BUT i did notice a mistake. Dallas's sideline is supposed to be in the shade, while the visiting team is supposed to be in the sun.
In this game, it is backwards. Dallas is in the sun while the visiting team is in the shade. That "shade advantage" is one of the unique things about Texas Stadium.
The shadows and lighting effects in this game have to be the best ive seen in a sports game. It is obvious they spent a lot of time on it. That is why im suprised that they made a mistake on that. You would think that if they spent so much time doing the lighting in Texas Stadium that they would get the sidelines right.
It's a very small detail, and no big deal. This game is closer to perfect than any sports game ive ever seen. ESPN is without a doubt the best football simulation ever created, and the sidelines in Texas stadium are my only problem with the game.Comment

I'm not wasting my time here. You won't acknowledge this serious flaw anyway.
NCAA gives it up, too, but not like ESPN.

Uh, you mean, like only your own?
I can run out routes on NCAA all day. Toss it to wr and he does one juke and hes gone 84 yards.
Anyway, maybe instead of longtime critic, you should insert longtime "no way in hell i'm going to like this game cos like its not ncaa" ?Proud member of the OS Bills Backers.

Well, crap.
I stand by my original post; there's some amazing coolness in this game, BUT.......
I, too, have discovered what looks like some absolutely awful AI in the defensive backfield.
Two problems exist. First, there are animations that DBs get stuck in that are especially troublesome in goal line situations. They make slants almost automatic. And second, the out routes are so automatic that the computer simply has no chance to stop you, and IT NEVER LEARNS!
I don't play online because I simply do not have the time to play to justify the cost. Plus, I prefer the one-player season stuff to just random games. My time won't allow league play.
Looks like another year of exclusive NCAA action for me, just like last year.
Back to the drawing board, Sega. How can you do so much so well, yet fail so miserably in such an important AI area?
I'll wait for the "magical sliders" if they are hidden in the depths of this game, but I'm not feeling confident about that. I've never liked having to "trick up" a game to make it play a good game of football anyway.

NCAA could be a good game, but its not that much better than Madden and ESPN which you condemn. Alot of people have stated the the AI is definately one of the strong points of this game. And while the AI is not perfect and never will be. It seems like you're holding this game to a ridiculously high standard.

How so? especially since your original post praised the game and mentioned how it is your NFL game of choice this year:

I trashed 2K3 mercilessly. But ESPN will no doubt be my NFL game of choice this year. I can see a lot of hours logged on this puppy. Congratulations, Sega.

Regardless, I respect your right to like or hate the game, but I think you should loosen up these "standards" of yours, you'll have more fun.Comment
