This is the BEST football game i ever played I was just posting the problems. The passing game is good but needs work it's better than Madden because u have control over your passes and can hit your WR right where you want to. The passing game can use some work like the lob pass is hella floaty and hard to catch even when you got the DB beat. The offense is damn near pefect they need to work on how the defense responds to certain situations.

Re: This game has BAD AI!
I think the biggest AI flaw lies in the computer play-calling. It is painfully predictable. Depending on what team you use, every team has a basic play that they begin each drive with. For example New England, Detroit and Oakland will start off in a three wide formation and 9 times out of 10 they will pitch a running play from that formation on first down. If it gets to be 2nd and 6 or less the AI will automatically go to a goaline formation (jacks, jokers etc) and then third down is usually Flush. Try it and you will see i'm right, the AI never changes. There are so many plays in each teams playbook and the computer will never even use half of them. It gets incredibly annoying.Comment

Re: This game has BAD AI!
For Prime TIme (original post):
It is funny how a lot of people are complaining about the AI in NFL2k4. Funny because I remember reading interviews with developers where it clearly states, 'You will not be able to run the same play over and over again in this game because the defense will pick up on it.' Well, I do admit that there are one or two 'gimme' plays that I can call with success about 80% of the time, it is still only 80%.
Here is an experiment to try. Start up a game that you are not going to save. Whenever you are on offense, call the exact same play every single down. Keep a tally of how many times you get a first down and how many times you score. I think you will find that indeed you cannot run the same play over and over again and be successful in this game.
Let's be fair. Sega is getting better and better with each title. (Elimination of OTFPC and create-a-play excepted of course.) I am sure that NFL2k5 this August/September will be another step forward towards the near-perfect NFL video game.Comment

Re: This game has BAD AI!
Face it... ALL GAMES out there will have some sort of "bad" AI every single year for the next 50 years until they can make a replicator that can put the playing in a real life, life-sized football simulation (well, less like a simulation, more like a situation).
I aggree with all of you on all the flaws of ESPN, but honestly, it is the football game that has made me go UUURRRGH!!!! the least. The gameplay this year is excellent and far beats madden in the sense that football is a POWER SPORT, and much less a finesse sport, putting in an amazing stiff-arm system, nice RB ramming, unrealistically beautiful dives, and most of all, decent collisions between the DB and the WR the moment the ball is caught.
But, back on the topic at hand here, the AI... There are a few key problems with the AI, but namely, the one this that has made me the most mad with ESPN is the amazing reaction times of the players. I once ran a screen play with the Green Bay Packers. I threw a bullet to my RB while the defensive end was doing a swim move around my OT. Somehow, the DE magically stopped, leaped 2 feet in the air, and picked off the ball with one hand. I looked at the replay, and timed the play in slow motion, from the time the quarterback's arm started going to the reciever to the moment that the DE started his leap of faith, and the time was 0.023 seconds. The normal human reaction time is around 0.2 seconds. That is the biggest frustration I had with the game, otherwise, it was fabulous.
One final note... I love how ESPN made the game much more less superhuman than Madden was last year.
One particular item of note is that when you throw a bullet to the linebacker, he doesn't catch it right away. At least the guy bobbles the ball, and then realizes that he has a INT waiting for him... FinComment

Re: This game has BAD AI!
Next years game has the potential to be awesome, but it also has the potential to be a huge disappointment. This year was great, but there were several quirks. Hopefully VC reads these boards and can take care of the more notable issues, otherwise it will be a let down.Comment
