Next years game has the potential to be awesome, but it also has the potential to be a huge disappointment. This year was great, but there were several quirks. Hopefully VC reads these boards and can take care of the more notable issues, otherwise it will be a let down.

the only major AI flaws that I have noticed are the kick returns, unecessary punts, and I've also seen some real nasty pursuit angles. But these aren't always a problem, so it doesn't get in the way too much.

You are right on all of those. The unnecessary punts isn't really a flaw, the game just doesn't want to challenge the poorer kickers out there. As for the kick returns, I think this year has been done better than any game, any year. The average starting position is actually realistic (28ish), and the kick return situations a very well done; sometimes, you will be flooded with defenders, other times, the field will be wide open. There is a major thing that the AI of the game is missing on the KR, though, and that's the blocking wedge. I have yet to see either game successfully execute the wedge block on the kick return, even though it happens every single kickoff return in the NFL. The pursuit angles are poorly done. It seems that tackling straight on is MUCH LESS successful than tackling from behind. I do like the different varieties of tackles (especially the tripping). Overall, ESPN has made me go URRG much less than previous games, but it does have flaws; otherwise, it's perfect.Comment

I think the biggest AI flaw lies in the computer play-calling. It is painfully predictable. Depending on what team you use, every team has a basic play that they begin each drive with. For example New England, Detroit and Oakland will start off in a three wide formation and 9 times out of 10 they will pitch a running play from that formation on first down. If it gets to be 2nd and 6 or less the AI will automatically go to a goaline formation (jacks, jokers etc) and then third down is usually Flush. Try it and you will see i'm right, the AI never changes. There are so many plays in each teams playbook and the computer will never even use half of them. It gets incredibly annoying.

I agree with this I hate how a team like the Rams or Vikings go to a Jacks or Jokers formation on 2nd and 6th. Teams like the Vikings and Rams rarely use "Big" lineups they spread out. The Colts, Vikings, Rams, Titans and more use FBs in this game when they rarely use FBs in real life. They need to work on this.Comment

So, what is your pointDoes that automactically make ESPN's AI good just because it happens to be better than Madden/Gameday/Fever's (which i happen to agree with)? That really isn't saying much

Overall, Espn has great AI ... but it has a few glaring issues that need to be dealt with.
It will be a great year if they fix them for '05.Comment
