Re: Is it me, or does the \"Double Team\" option not work?
I haven't tried that many different playbooks Vader. I only assumed that every playbook would have at least some man-to-man defenses where the corners go one-on-one with the WRs and at least one safety has no coverage responsibility. I will check the Chiefs playbook this weekend but it would surprise me if every defensive call was a zone.

if you find it let me know...but i doubt it...i played the Chiefs playbook for 3 seasons and didn't find a man to man coverage that allowed double team.Comment

Re: Is it me, or does the \"Double Team\" option not work?
I've changed my mind. I don't think the double team option works. Maybe it changes the way the opposing QB reads defenses but I certainly didn't find evidence of it when taking a closer look.
I played a game with the Chiefs against the Vikings and had McLeon match up against Moss and called for a double team. I played 2-man defenses the entire game with either the 4-3, nickel or dime defenses depending on what formation the Vikings were using. This defense has both safeties in zone coverage with everyone else playing man - perfect for the double-team. I performed replays after every pass to see how the safeties reacted on Moss's side. They simply dropped into their zones and did nothing more the entire game. Every once in awhile you thought it might be working. Woods seemed to cover him occasionally but I think this had far more to do with random defensive thinking and the fact that he was the only receiver on that side of the field. Anytime you had multiple receivers on that side of the field, forget it. Culpepper threw one deep post to Moss and the safety was nowhere to be found helping. He toasted McLeon.
On a different note, playing man all game long against Culpepper is not wise. He had 63 yards rushing at half time and finished with over 80. I won on a last second field goal 20-17. KC playbook is nice but Gonzo shouldn't leave the field ever.
Thinking it was just the Chiefs, I tried playing the Vikes with the Dolphins and same results. I now believe the double-team doesn't work. If anyone finds evidence otherwise I may change my mind back again but Vader and the others are right. I was wrong. Hopefully they correct this next year but whatever they do, you should never be able to shut out great receivers with it.Comment

Re: Is it me, or does the \"Double Team\" option not work?
double team only works with a playbook that has the safeties in man-to-man also. Not cover 2. Westcoast and General have double-team plays. And I think the dolphins. That's about it.NBA 2K11 My Player: 6'11 Athletic Center/PF 58ovr Rockets

For PacMan (Original Post)
It is not just you. It does not work with me either. I use the Chicago Bears Playbook with BOTH my Bears Franchise and my Broncos Franchise. In it, there are some plays which indicate your defender will play man coverage. (A line showing his running pattern with a line crossed at the top like a 'T'.) I did an experiment and had my best cover guy on my opponents best receiver, and then tacked on a double team with another one of my higher ranked players. Not only did my best guy not cover who he was supposed to from play to play, but there was no indication of a double team on screen.
I think this was a good idea that Sega had. The problem is, they did not execute it very well. Maybe in NFL2k5 this year, we will get treated to a working double-team feature.
Oh, by the way. Man-coverage only double-teams should not be the restricting factor when utilizing this feature. If the gamer selects double-team, then the two designated players you selected should be lining up against and covering your selected opponent on EVERY play, regardless of coverage. That is the trade-off. If you double their best player, you are leaving one other player of theirs free to possibly make a big play in the open. But you can be comfortable with the fact that you just reduced their star player's chances of catching a pass. Notice I said REDUCE and not ELIMINATE. The reality is that talented (I'm serious, he is one of the best but he still disgusts me.) receivers like Randy Moss are not easily shaken by two backs covering him. Same thing should occur in NFL2k5.Comment
