    Re: DB AI issues

This has been an issue for 5 straight years now. I expected incoming Madden guys to see this as a huge issue, but the vets? Yeah it sucks, but as long as its less and less each year, Its OK IMO.

This issue killed 2K3 for me and drove me back to Madden. Th DB's in 2K3 did the wrong animation about 40% of the time. In 2K4 it was drastically reduced...maybe around 20-25%, and this year its down again to perhaps 15%.

The MAIN problem is that this game looks so damned good, we're all re-playing every other play from 100 different angles.

In normal gamespeed a DB may appear to just miss the tip away, the WR makes the play and it looks like normal NFL business as usual...but after we super slo-mo the replay for ten minutes, we notice that he spun around the wrong way when he landed, or made an inappropriate lunge at the ball. Its like if you slow-mo a catch on any game ever created...The ball never goes into the hands naturally, it always hits the forearms/wrists and morphs into the hands. Big whoop, its a game, right?

If we can all consistently put up 300+ yards through the air on the hardest difficulty level with even the scrubby teams...then there's a REAL problem(with THIS franchise anyway ). Other than tht its all visual semantics.

the reason i say "especially for former madden players" is because in madden/ncaa 2005 you can only do TWO things on offense: either the deep long ball, or run the ball.

      1. 100% completion on slants is NOT "real" football. It's ludicrous. (not saying that it happens in the game, but slants are completed very often.

      2. If someone only does 2 things on offense like "run the ball and deep long ball" they are not doing so because they are playing Madden, they are doing it because they are idiots. I play a LOT of both games and you can complete every type of pass equally as easy in Madden last year as you can in ESPN this year (NCAA 2005 is another issue, their Defense AI is way ahead of the others).

                  Re: DB AI issues

Anyone else having trouble controlling a defensive back (primarily a corner)? I feel like i can't control them. I hate the way they move and can't seem to get them to go where i want. And when i think i'm in position to knock a pass down, I press the Y (or black/white) button and he'll do some stupid half-[censored] armwave attempt to swat at the ball but he stops while he's doing this and the receiver (still running) catches the ball 5-10 yards down the field . Any tips on how to play defense using a corner? Thanks...

Yeah, same here. I can barely use a LB effectively. The loop in a circle animation they do when they turn is screwy and messes things up. I wish it was easier to straffe.

does this still happen when you let the CPU control the DB ?

If yes, is it just as often ? , is there anything that seems to trigger it more like going for a ball swat too early ?
