Put some added polygons to nfl 2k5, and update the sidelines with hi quality players, cameraman, etc....and the game destroys it in every way

Its a better game without the extra graphics, as the annimations look real, where Madden 11 looks like I dont know what(ice skating???)

Just use the sidelines from APF2K8 which kill the sidelines of any football to date.

Re: Madden 11 vs Espn NFL2K5 which is better?

Until Madden makes a franchise mode where I actually feel involved in something and am not just going through game after game, 2k5 is my football fix. Madden always feels like a grind in franchise in my opinion. 2k5's Sportscenter Recap and TV presentation always made me feel more apart of the game and the season.

But in a more honest opinion, I just feel as though my impression of how football games should be has been deeply skewed since EA gained control of the NFL license. I think I just always expected double out of them because of that and have forever been more accustomed to the way 2k football plays. Every year I still buy Madden, but never am able to enjoy it as much as when 2k5 came out. Oh the passion fans can have huh?

I think the textures on Madden blow 2k away but the actual models look distorted at times. I love the 2k models. Madden has this big head tiny feet thing that bugs me. The football looks huge too! I just rented Madden & am still checking it out. Haven't bought one since 2000 but can't play 2k5 on ps3 so I want this new game to be good!

I'll say this much, that side-by-side video definitely shows how much work Madden's commentary engine needs. So incredibly sparse and disjointed, and it's the very first and biggest thing I noticed in that video.

Haven't played Madden 11 yet, nor have I played NFL2K5 in a long while, so that's the most I can comment here.

That is the first thing that stands out for me too. In 2k5, there isn't really too many dead spots, awkward silences, etc., but in Madden the commentary is just really bad, like you said. It's 2010, Madden has been around far longer than any sports game series, it should be on the cutting edge of every sports game.

One thing that stands out in this year's Madden is the delay in commentary. For example, a TD is scored and the commentators don't say a word about it as it's happening or happened until like a few seconds later if at all! Happens pretty often. Seems like they kinda rushed Gus Johnson to record some lines just to put it in this year. Maybe next year we'll get more robust commentary

Maybe it's just me. From somone who loved the 2k series, and it remains my favorite football game, no way I can go back to 2k after playing M11.

Like I said could just be me, and I am quite alright with that. It's all personal preference.

Commentary in 2k5 still blows my mind. Back when the game was released, players such as Brady Quinn, Josh Cribbs, Braylon Edwards, etc. weren't even in the league yet. But, using updated rosters, (which are mostly created players), the announcers call them by name!!!!! ("Quinn, back to pass...."Cribbs is back deep to receive the kickoff".....Quinn passes to Edwards, and it's complete!"

Madden, however, still uses the generic "he's back to pass", "He's trying to turn the corner", "he's going thru his progressions", etc.

Sometimes. I've heard the commentary in various vids. Yeah, madden says names sometimes, but not all the time like 2k does.

Boy after seeing those two games side by side. Madden 11 all the way and it is not even close. The animation and graphics alone blow 2k5 out of the water. And even the game play look better to me. I agree with you BK after playing madden 11 I could not go back to 2k5. I will now put my 2k5 game away or trade it in. It was a good run and a fun game, but Madden11 is just so much better in my opinion. I guess I would compare it to a game on the sega genesis vs Sega console.

The animation is better in Madden. I mean back in the day NFL2K5 was the best, but it is not even close now with Madden 11. Maybe not all the times, but 2k had it WTF moment too. I think on the whole Madden's animations are better.

Graphics: Madden. 2k5 was great for its time, but nowadays it's all about 1080p resolution. Although 2k has the ability to be played in 1080p, it's still not as sharp, for some reason. Also, the player models in 2k were good, but in Madden, they're even better...

Gameplay: 2k. Players actually block for you, and not just run in circles. Also, the pocket really looks like a pocket in 2k, and when you play qb, the foot planting is much more realistic. If you even try to back up 20 yards and throw a long pass in 2k, chances are it won't even get close to where you want it to be. Also, tackles/wrapups look more solid in 2k.

Presentation: 2k. Not even close. As was mentioned, Ian stated they played 2k to get ideas. Wellllllll..........besides similar cutscenes (players on bikes, fans tailgating, celebrations after big plays) those ideas weren't implemented well. The Extra Point felt like an unfinished Beta project, while the commentary.......well let's just say, the voice actors for 2k are still head and shoulders above anything Madden has ever done. Jokes, banter, excitement, etc.it's all there.

Not to mention, 2k still looks like a real broadcast after all these years. Other scores, starting lineups, player stats, ESPN Skycam, halftime highlights, Boomer's Halftime Heroes, are you kidding me!!?? What more (presentation-wise) could you possibly ask for!?

Overall, if you want to play in the new stadiums like Dallas, New York, etc., and want true next-gen graphics, then Madden's the choice. If you just want a realistic playing football game, 2k gets the nod.

Would you believe I was playing 2k5 the other day..my wife walks in the room during one of those awesome closeups of my QB walking to the line.....and says "who's that playing?" She then saw the controller in my hand and walked away like "oops, nevermind". Seriously......
I think the blocking in Madden is better. The only thing that madden really needs to work on is the defense. If they can make the defense more able to stop the offense (in a patch hopefully). I think madden 11 will finally put 2k5 to rest. Again this is all opinion.
