Re: Can we make our own game?
What I would like to see happen is another company, not EA, bring this game back. Of course, if people here can do it, that is fine with me, just not EA!Comment

Maybe we should put an ad in every magazine related to football, as well as gaming magazines, We could use the title: HELP!Comment

This is the worst idea. Nobody is going to just stumble across this post and be like "Hey I am an unemployed programmer. This sounds like a fantastic opportunity."Fan of... Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Pistons

Re: Can we make our own game?
Maybe not the worst idea... I happen to have stumbled into this thread... I have some cash and some knowledge. First a little background. I am currently a broadcast journalist for the AFC west, and Mountain West conference., as well as a columnist for a San Diego paper. I am a former D1 qb, with an MBA in analytics. I am also a head coach 09 junkie.
I love the idea here, and what I'd like to do is get all of the dedicated posters in this thread to seems me all of their docs, ideas, etc. After I can sift through them, I'd like to set up a conference (online chat) to discuss and brainstorm, to see how real the possibility of making this happen can be. Let me know how you guys feel about this plan.
P.S. I apologize for the tough read, had to send this from my phone, from a crap hole airport in Wyoming..."If it bleeds, we can Kill it."Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
Just saw this thread. I have shared the same feeling as many in this thread do. I want a game that tests my GM skills and my coaching skills, and is realistic.
About 4 months ago, I started working on a football game. I didnt really plan on announcing it until I am further along, but I wanted to give people in here some hope. It is mostly a GM game, but it does show action on the field. Think of it as a mix between FOF and Football Pro. Unless I find an animator/artist at some point, the graphics wont be as good onfield as Football Pro.
What you see on the field is 1 step above dots moving on the screen. You see a top level view only, you can see the helmet color and jersey of each player. You can tell if a player made a big hit or a big block on a player. You can tell if a player is laying on the ground (by the player icon being dimmed out). Thats how realistic I want it to be - in real life, players fall down, players get tired WHILE they are running.
Although, Ive worked a little on the graphics/animation, I've been mainly focused on league generation and player generation. Very tough to get right, as I am a perfectionist.
When it comes to animation, I have to get a good foundation working. In this regard, I have running down pretty good. A player runs to his speed and acceleration ratings, but depending on his endurance, will slow down after a while (imagine an big defensive lineman running 100 yards - he gets gasped after a while!). At some point, Ill post a video of this concept.
After running, I'll do blocking, passing, tackling, juking, stiff arm.
It's important to get these fundamental football skills working before starting to set them up in football plays.
I will post screenshots later of the screens to view rosters.ShaneTheMaster

Re: Can we make our own game?
Here is a screenshot of a dialog where you can view the rosters of each team. Players are rated from 0-119 in a variety of attributes: Physical Based, Skills Based, and Mentally Based. But each real rating is "rolled up" into a 0-11 scale.

All I would like to see a strategy (and RPG) based sports game, that would test my GM & coaching skills, not my skills with the sticks.

Re: Can we make our own game?
Liking these ideas floating around. I've been brainstorming ideas for a football game for years now based on All Pro Football + Blitze: The League's models of using "Superstars" in place of real NFL players. Much like the sentiments stated here, a full-on rendered model of football players + physics + AI may not be possible, but something more turn based with clean, simple sprites could work.Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
I've been playing football manager 2013 recently, a great soccer management sim. The match engine for that game is top notch, makes the OTTP sim game engine look prehistoric to me. I think a american football management sim would find a niche market inside the United States. You could model the game engine off the match engine of FM 2013, with similar graphics and what not, however you would have greater control as in american football you could call the plays on both defense and offense. It be kind of like NFL head Coach, but with some differences, and those differences are where I will stop........Comment

Re: Can we make our own game?
Ok....just a BIG question for me: can someone provide some nice looking animations? Mo-Capped or Key-Framed......
Here's what I have in my mind (now I'm working as a 3D Engineer on a project that will be finished soon):
- Generic 3D Game 11 vs 11
- Total Customization by Community (look at what http://www.nba-live.com/ can bring to a game)
I already have a Game Engine (totally written in C++/DX9/DX11) up and running for PC that's been used for a FPS game but It's very flexible. It stands on Havok for Animations and Physics and fMod for Audio/FX.
....the big question is about the animations. If someone can provide good looking animations I could be really really intersted in joining/create a PC simulation Football (ala Front Page Sports...since I'm old style PC sim fanatic )
My goal is to work on the engine....and let the community work on uni's 3D Models/stadium/overlay....
Hope someone in intersted on this type of project.

Re: Can we make our own game?
If you guys can put together a top notch SIM Football game, ala "Front Office Football" I would help fund the project.
I would like to sit down and go over the project.
Front Office Football is just missing some small items but its almost there. 2D Animation would help out, besides some other items. Must be able to play online.
The problem with most of the newer football sims, that leave out a lot of what is in football, like Free agency, penalties, salary cap, etc. That's why I like Front Office Football, even though its dated a little, they give you what football is.Comment

I'm sorry that nobody reply to my previous call....
can somebody provide me some good animation like running OL/DL interaction.....catching...throw animations.... on so on.....
If yes I can create a simple DEMO in months and from this we can see if the project can grow into something intersting....
Let's wake UP Pc Sports gaming again ^_^
Hope to hear someone soon

Re: Can we make our own game?
I would love to see a football game for the PC again. Here are my thoughts:
- Focus on good arcade action and realism in the playbooks/stats/etc. Lifelike graphics should be the lowest priority.
- Customization is key. Users should be able to modify the teams, leagues, and players as much as possible. As a bonus, this means we don't need an expensive NFL license. If there's a better game than what EA offers, fans will be willing to buy and mod it appropriately. Look no further than all the fans who download NCAA rosters with the real names.
- Simple, relatively small CSV files should hold the data. That makes the game easy to modify, and custom rosters easy to share.
- Have rules options that can be turned on or off, and not just rules that exist in real life. One example, it would be cool if a team that scores a defensive touchdown gets the ball instead of having to kick off.
- Have a real offseason and training camp with 85 man rosters.
- The ideal game (and I understand it might make it too complicated) would allow college players to be exported to the NFL draft.
- One game mode that would be a lot of fun is Expansion Team Mode. You would be the new coach of the league's 32nd team. You start out observing the 31 team league go through its season. Then you do the expansion draft, free agents, and rookie draft and try to build a contender as quickly as possible.
- For a college game, I'd like to see a Create A School mode. You choose the school's name, colors, mascot, and location and start out in I-AA...the goal is to win the national title in a I-A conference.Comment
