If viewed completely in a neutral light, outside of those two issues, I'll bet a lot of folks would be talking a wildly different line on this game.

With that being said I hope it hangs around and continues to improve. It's always great to have competition. I just wonder if the money/effort will run out before it ever really gets to the point where it has a decent audience and can sustain itself...
    I agree with this.

Rugby's degree of contact and violence puts American football to shame, so I disagree.

A vast improvement over 2k and I played the heck out of that game with my dorm mates. Eventually, we all got 2k5...one of the greatest (if not THE) greatest video FB game ever. It took several years for them to get it right.

I say this not to compare the two franchises, but to highlight the fact that entry level sports games usually do not get it right. But a foundation had been laid. Thats kind of all you can do on the first try. It's an evolution. Madden went through (Next Gen Madden still is), NCAA Football, Joe Montana Sports talk/NFL Football, MLB series, Triple play/MVP, World Series baseball, Choops, Celtics vs Lakers/NBA Live/Whatever they are changing it to...all of them. Most of them get it right, or close to right, eventually. Some, although, never quite get there.

Expecting a home run at the first at bat is just expecting too much. Just the nature of the beast. But a hard hit single or double is a good sign. I don't think the BB is a strikeout.
Dude, the jump even between NFL 2K and NFL 2K1 was just nuts man, it's amazing what a year can do.

Since Madden has been on the Xbox 360, I've only rented, have not purchased. Madden has been a piss poor experience for me personally. What I love about Backbreaker is the when your running with the rock and you can see the shadow of a player creeping up from behind you, it's really crazy. I've been playing non licensed football games for a while so at this moment I'm going to pick Backbreaker.

I have a problem with this, and please hear me out. the sport of football has been out for many decades, and its not that difficult to gather information on the sport. All the rules , plays, and the history. I know it's not a NFL title, but you have to mimic the NFL rules and foundation for a football title to be successful.

It's also not difficult for them to look at other football titles that have been out for a while. Examine them and see what features they have and why they have them , and transfer them over to your title with your own flavor.

I have never made a football game, but I can gaurantee you this. I'm told to make a football game I can make sure that every feature that needs to be in that game will be there.

I can also lay out a great blue print for how the A.I would work for all apsects of the game. I could create a awesome control scheme, and make the game amazing. I can nail it with my 1st attempt.

I feel 505 really did not study the game of football as deep as they should, and just did enough to see if the game can be successful. Now they see that , they now will go harder with BB2, but hoenstly they could have done a much better job on this attempt than they did.

Let me work with them and I would ROCK this game to a level that would make football gamers explode.

I dont know soccer but If I had to make a soccer game I would learn the sport from true soccer fans and study the latest soccer games, and from this I would do a great job on my 1st attempt.

This game was in the making for 3 years and they should have done the same.

            Don't you think?
I don't know, man......some are getting on the devs because of some NFL rules not being implemented properly, which is understandable and I agree with......and like you feel, they didn't study the game of football as deep as they should.........but

I want everyone who has both NFL game 2010 and Backbreaker to try something...

on a CPU field goal attempt...***n out of bounce as a defender....or go past the back of endzone.

what are the results of this action in both games...the NFL one, compared to the one made by devs based in England.

I'm happy with it. The only things that disappointed me that caught me off guard was the small/generic playbook & no save replay option. I'm sure programming Euphoria to work properly for a football game for the 1st time took a whole lotta effort & time even within those 4 years.

Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

I LOVE this game. I've bought Madden since 89, and this year I will not. Its exciting to have something different..

Is it a sim or perfect, no, look where the ONLY OTHER game is after 21 years..people still dislike it for some reason or other...

Backbreaker is FUN to PLAY and CUSTOMIZE!

So, bad reviews or not, I think people should rent this game and see for themselves. Theres ALOT of potential there and FUN. It takes awhile to learn the new controls (I prefer ALT CONTROLS), and maybe thats part of people bashing it, frustrated because they suck, or just dont want to take time to learn a new game.

I'm OK w/ occasional; "bad" call, of course, we are basing it on being wrong according to NFL rules...

Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

I think it was a good first attempt. Games are just more difficult to program on these systems. Not to mention, football is a much more difficult sport than most and has 10x more rules than other sports.

3 years sounds like a lot of time to get everything in but it really isn't. Look at the "other" title. 06-08 were completely unplayable. Not mention it also had key features like commentary missing and several that were technically in and not working properly. That's with 10x more developers, more money and 20 years developing a game.

Whether your an EA ***** or fan you can look at the Madden series and see 10 was infinitely better than 08. I think BB2 will be infinitely better than BB, if they get the support.

Re: Good Job on Backbreaker for first attempt!!!

The bottom line with Bacbreaker for me, not speaking for anyone else is that the game is fun, but at the sametime a huge tease.

If the Devs just did a little more with this game they could have really made a GREAT FOOTBALL GAME!

Right now I would have loved if they did a few simple things and left the rest for BB2, and they are.

1.Slightly better O-line play. Nothing crazy just slightly better. Just way to many stops behind the line of scrimmage. Way more than the norm.

2.Penelaties called , and called correctly

3.Icons for the wr's, not to throw just to use when in focus mode when you want look at a particular Wr. The process they have now limits you.

4.Better A.I for your computer opponent.

Then all the other features we want to see in our football game can come in BB2.

I just feel the things I mentioned should have been in this game already, but like I mentioned this game is fun, and I will continue to play it.

I think more customization of stadiums would be awesome in BB2. I like the stadiums already, but to fully customize a stadium would be awesome! Get rid of a few bugs, streamline players, better gameplay, get rid of QB jerkiness, different run style animations, I think the game will be in good shape.
