Running Game adjustments Via the Editor (Results)

What I did was go into the editor and reduce all defensive linemen speed, agility and strength down to 1. I upped all offensive linemen, same attributes, to between 90 and 99. I left the linebackers alone. Note that this was done for NFL teams that I created, all 32. Being retired has its benefits!

Played a game of two pretty evenly matched teams Chiefs (me) vs the Browns. I had previously made both of these teams an overall of around 50. Below are the results of that game. Keep in mind that as KC I was run heavy as I wanted to test the changes I made but I still passed on 3rd downs as I was also trying to win the game.

Medium difficulty and 5 minute quarters. Average form.

Final score: Cleveland 24 Kansas City 21 (I lost in the final two minutes)

    Total yards:

    Cleveland 259 KC 267
    Passing 211 112
    Rushing 48 155

    1st downs: Cleveland 8 KC 13

Turnovers: Cleveland 1 (int) KC 0

No sacks by either team (not surprising due to the adjustments I made).

    3rd down conversions: Cleveland 3-12 (25%) KC 4-13 (31%)

    Passing:

    Cassel: 6-15 112 yards
    Delhomne: 15-31 202 yards

    Rushing:

Charles: 42-153 (3.6 average) Long run of 23 yards (also had a couple of around 20)
    Cox: 1-2 (2.0 average)

    Harrison: 14-40 (2.9 average) Long of 13
    Vickers: 2-8 (4.0 average).

An interesting tidbit is that a Cleveland linebacker had 16 tackles (not all solo) and no Cleveland defensive lineman had more than 5. KC defensive linemen had no more than 3 tackles each. This tells me that I was able to get past the defensive line on a lot of plays.

I was blown up in the backfield probably 2-3 times but keep in mind that this is not totally out of the ordinary. 5-6 times it would be out of the ordinary.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth. This was only one game but seems to be promising for those that have a 360 and the editor.

Wow now this is interesting so it does look possible to adjust the game with the editor to fix the running game.

My only issue with doing all this is this. What if NM releases another patch, then you have to go back in and edit all the teams again? Sliders would make this so much easier.

Your right Phobia, if another patch is released it's back to the drawing board!
I was a bit surprised at the results since I had previously attempted to cut down the interceptions by lowering DBs agility and focus down to 1 and that did not help. Wasn't sure just how much the player ratings really affected their game play.

Todd over on the BB boards are looking pretty hard into whats causing the run blocking issue. So I would be pretty confident that it will be fixed by a patch.

I am hoping so but the last I had read over there was that he (Todd) was having a difficult time replicating what others (everyone?) has been experiencing with the running game. I find that to be pretty amazing.

He seems to be getting closer to figuring it out. I think the bold shows we "should" get a patch

... leave this one to me ...

As for a patch to patch the patch, I cannot answer that as we do not know yet - Im sure a decision will be made at some point soo... er, in the nearish future. In the meantime I am working on fixing the issues anyway.

            Hope that helps

Played a second game, again with two closely rated teams.

              Chiefs (me) 23 Bills 20

Total yards: Chiefs 341 Bills 308

              Passing:

              Cassel: 12-17 for 209 yards
              Fitzpatrick 11-21 189 yards

              Rushing:

              KC:
Charles: 37-142 (3.8 average) long of 30 yards.

              Buff:

Jackson: 12-104 for a 8.7 average. (He busted the first play from scrimmage for his long of 72 yards)
              McIntyre: 3-15 (5.0 average)

              Sacks:
              Buff. 1
              KC. 0

One INT for each team and that was it as far as turnovers.

              TOP:

              KC: 13:10
              Buff: 6:50

All the same settings as the first post.

Thanks for that post Phobia, I had not been over to the backbreaker site today. Hopefully they can get a patch going so all can enjoy this game more.

Nice work, I'll have to try this out. Since downloading the patch my productivity with Stephen Jackson has gone down tremendously!

This game is still fantastic and I love what 505 is doing. Maybe next year give us some sliders so we don't have to adjust through the comp!

Just a note to those that are going to do the adjustments with the editor.

I have not gone to "My Team" to look at the teams / ratings have I have read that it will change your teams ratings.

I noticed though while picking my team in exhibition that my chiefs overall had gone down from a 52 to a 46. I checked the other teams and it seems that some or all of them have changed some although nothing dramatic.

While playing a game I went into the depth chart and looked at ratings and noticed that all my defensive linemen that I had adjusted their ratings to "1" were all at "30". Not sure what to make of it as I double checked the save file through the editor and they show to be at 1. However in the game they show to be at 30.

At any rate the running game is much better for me now, just don't want anyone to be surprised by this if you to into the edtor and adjust attributes.

I have now noticed that even without going to the "My Team" page the editor will cause changes in some players skin color. And for some reason Drew Brees' jersey number changed to 16. This is the only number change I have noticed so far though.

Re: Running Game adjustments Via the Editor (Results)

i tried my best to replicate the results you xbox guys are able to do with editors. i made all my nfl teams strong on the pass d so all the dlinemen are rated at 30ish. i had some better results, didn't have as many blown line blocks as before but still didn't do much.

reallllyyy want to play this game more, but not having at least some consistency in the run just kills it for me

the devs are really a good group of guys an im sure will get to the bottom of it. really fortunate they have as much passion behind the game as we do.

is it possible the ratings change depending on what form you are using during the game?

I've heard that they put coding in the game through the patch that only allows attributes between the 30-100 range. If you go higher or lower the rating will adjust to either 30 or 100.

That makes sense since all my linemen have defaulted to 30 after I put them at 1.

For those wondering if you will see results with lowering the defensive linemen ratings I can just speak for myself. It for sure makes a difference with my game. Before my changes I was lucky to have a 1.0 yard per carry average on the ground. Now I am averaging 3.6 to 3.8. Another thing I have noticed is that when I kick off and take control of a lineman to go down the field I can tell he is noticeably slower than before. Kickoffs are commonly brought back to over the 30 yard line whereas before I could get down the field and often make the tackle before they reached the 20. Not all kickoff guys are linemen but several are and the adjustments do appear to make a difference......imo.

This only works with created teams though as you cannot edit the teams that came in the game. Still finding my created team ratings being all screwed up but I have read where the development team is aware of this problem and hopefully we'll get a remedy.

Anyone have a code for the Anchorage Watchmen? Got to level 72 in Tackle Alley today and had like 42 lives and couldn't get any further. Yeah I'm not good. If anyone's interested the devs did release codes for two additional teams today, development guy type teams. You can get the codes over at the backbreaker forum website or if you can't find them I can post them here.
