So I contributed to the “competition for better future video game football fund” and had a few takeaways from my brief playtime.
Things I liked
- running with the ball doesn’t have that suction feeling that I’m so use to
- I liked the time it takes the quartback to deliver the ball. You have to actually factor that split second in. QB release should be a rating to differentiate QBs
Things I don’t like
- all the ratings are the same for each team so I had trouble gauging how much of impact they have
- navigating the menus are not intuitive. The circle button is the ‘back’ button on PlayStation since forever. Not a big deal but just something that stood out
- not having a strafe mechanic was something I noticed missing immediately
- playing dline isn’t fun at all. To be fair it sounds like there is a break block move that I wasn’t aware of so my opinion may change on that.
I’m going to play thru a whole season this weekend to get a better opinion but I’d early impressions is this game has a long way to go. I’ll say the same thing again when Axis drops, a deep franchise mode is what will get this game in the mind share of football enthusiasts. Maximum is ways off from competing with Madden on a gameplay level but could easily catchup and even pass it in franchise.
