    dont change the overtime rules.

just get rid of the kickers, minus kickoffs and punts...yea.. no field goals

    Problem solved.

What about having it be first team to 6 points wins. That way you can win the toss, drive for a touchdown and win the game. Or you can kick the 3, stop the other team or give up 3, and then kick a game winning field goal.

Re: Overtime Needs To Be Changed....

I have an idea. Learn how to convert a 3rd and short in regulation against a team that has 0 TO's left then run the clock out. I find it easier to win games that way than depending on the toss of a coin.

The team that wins the toss wins 52% of the time so I don't see what the big deal is.

So what happens when we change the rules then we have a three year stretch where the team that gets the ball second wins 74% of the time? Do we change the rules once again?

Yeah I forgot that stat - the winner of the coin toss in NCAA OT chooses defense 99% of the time.

You look at those stats, and you'll realize that the winner of the toss in college football has a pretty good chance of winning since they can do defense first. In fact, this year, 8 out of 14 OT games were won by the team that got to choose first. That is 57%.

In 2007, the person who had the choice won the game 61% of the time.

Why not just do another 15 minute quarter?

            Seems the easiest solution.

This has probably been said as I didn't read the first 8 pages but they should do it the college way. Each team goes from the 35 yards line. Each opponent has to match the other one if not they win.

Isn't it, if you want to get technical, changing the game by making it "sudden death"?

Seriously guys, NEVER change it because if your defense can't get your offense the ball then you deserve to lose. simple

Each team is guaranteed 1 posession. San Diego wins the toss. They score a TD on the opening posession. They have the option of going for one or 2. Now Indy must score a TD & go for 2 only, even if SD just chose to kick. If SD chose to kick & missed or didn't convert the 2pt, then the Colts can choose to kick the PAT. If both teams miss their PAT's or conversions, game becomes sudden death, first to score wins.

If SD gets a FG, Indy still must score a TD on their next posession. If SD doesn't score & punts, then the game becomes sudden death, ending w/the 1st score.

                    Was that clear or confusing?

The play on the field is still the same, it is just scored differently.

And I would be for an extra 10 minute OT period - that would make sense as well.

I say that each team should atleast get a possesion. Use the Kickoff and everything.

I'm not going to read the first 8 pages, but I'll bet no-ones said this already... I say do away with overtime for regular season games. It's pointless to be honest.

If they must do it, have it so they play a whole quarter regardless.

I'm tempted to suggest a kicking contest after one OT for playoff games, where each kicker kicks from say 20 yards, then they move it back 5 yards after each set of kicks, and keep going until someone misses, if they both miss keep it where it is. To keep it sensible if it was Janikowski v Bironas or something then have it so after 55 yards it goes up 1 yard at a time.

                            I hate colleges overtime system.

                            I love ties.

I am okay with the overtime system.

O/T should be decided by an NFL Trivia game/test

                              OR

Each team gets one chance to answer the quesiton correctly...

For instance...Can an NFL game end in a tie?

McNabb would've answered 'NO' and the game would've been over and Cincy would've won.

There is nothing wrong w/ the NFLs O/T
