    Re: Favre to the Vikings?

ESPN should be ashamed of themselves with the way they've handled this. Brad Childress was on a local radio show this morning and has said that ESPN has been wrong with about everything they've "reported" on this story. He didn't try to hide his interest in Favre and essentially said that if he's healthy, he'll be a Viking.

Here's a link to the interview:

It sure looks like they blew the deadline report. But what has made them look bad is how they report the Vikings backing off Favre instead of backing off their story. Beyond that they seem to have reported a lot right.

What I want to know is when did Chilli know Favre would be a Viking. Favre's family seemed to know it before the draft when he was still a Jet. Considering the allegations last year of tampering, I think the league needs to look into it.

Farve wanted to be a Viking prior to last season when he was still property of Green Bay. I'm willing to bet Chicago was a place he would have gone as well just to stick it to Ted Thompson. When Farve was told he would have to compete for the starting job that's when it began. There was a reason Green Bay put that clause in the trade to the Jets. Even they knew he wanted to play in the NFC North to get revenge. Childress has known Farve for a long time and Darrell Bevell is friends with him. All signs pointed to Minnesota even then,

This would make a great soap opera....I think I'm in agreement with a lot of people on here...this was the big plan all along (as long as the surgery comes out okay). I'm kinda hoping he does because those two times the Pack and Vikes play are going to have a lot of intensity surrounding it.

Do you really want someone that selfish on your team, just so he can stick it to a GM who told him we moved on from your retirement?

I think the Vikes are letting friendships clouding their visions of a SB. Look at Favre's performances in the playoffs the last decade. Plus, he's never played well in the domes and I know he once said he hated playing in the Metrodome.

You know deep down inside it is killing you. If he does become a Vikings. If I remember well, I could swear the last five years you have a been on Brett nuts and now that is he retired you are now calling him selfish, I don't remember you seeing this about 3 to 4 year ago about Brett?

Ed Werder was involved. That should reveal all U need to know.

So you agree then. There is a possibility of tampering.

                    sigh..

I just don't get why the Vikings would be interested in renting a washed up QB for one year. Is Favre the most overrated player of all time at this point? The media lovefest has taken this man to heights well beyond his playing ability, especially at this age.

If I was a Vikings player, I would come out to the media and say "f*** Brett Favre, we don't need him and I don't want him." If I was a Vikings QB I would dare Favre to join the team so I could beat him out for the starting job.

Vikings management is just out of their minds

I wonder how the QB's on the Vikes feel right now? They can compete all they want, but if Favre comes, of course he is the starter.

One answer could be that ticket sales for the Vikings is down 10-15%. It is a team that almost every week is up against the blackout deadline and more than once had to be bailed out by corporation buyups. They had to file, was it two?, extensions just for the playoff game alone. They know they will sell more tickets with Brett Favre.

As far as on the field play, he is an upgrade to what they have.

Nah, it's not killing me in the least bit.

I turned Favre off after the drama of last season.

Doesn't mean I didn't respect him in a Packer uniform, but he seems like he's in it for himself and not his teammates the past few years.

Plus, I follow the team, not the player.

You will find out in due time.

I don't think that's fair. Retirement isn't a "you or your teammates" type decision...it should be personal. It actually should have nothing to do with your teammates. Besides, what teammates? The former Packers ones he clearly can't play with? The Jets one who took an opening to blame their entire season collapse on him? Whether or not to continue playing is up to him...and whatever team wants to give him the opportunity.

What he's doing is not at all uncommon, it's just very public.
If it didn't end up so messy with the Packers front office (BOTH sides completely mishandling the situation and turning to the media to address it) then nobody cares as much. Jordan, "unretired" a couple times. In football, Chris Carter, Vinny Testaverde, Doug Flutie, etc did as well. Those are just a few examples, too. Add in the relentless media coverage ("Breaking news!!! Farve seen stretching at a highschool gym!!!"), and you've got yourself some serious message board fodder...lol

And for those questioning why the Vikes should want a guy seemingly motivated by revenge...so what? I could care less what his motivations are, as long as they lead to him playing hard. And whether or not people think he's washed up, or selfish, or whatever, one thing most can agree on is he plays hard.

I've never been a fan of Favre, but I tend to think his retirement/unretirement saga is overblown. If he desires to still play (whatever you want to speculate the reasoning is) and there's a team that wants him, then what's the problem?

I understand Packers fans being upset about him going to the Vikings, but IMO that should be more an issue of him going to a rival than him wanting to still play. Plus it's his loss if he alienates some fans. Everyone keeps talking about his "legacy", but it's his to make or break. Maybe this IS his legacy...lol.

The timing of a retirement decision for a starting qb effects the whole team. As far as the last few years, he has left his team hanging out to dry.

This is completely different than any other retirement I have seen from a super star athlete. Jordon didn't insist on playing for the Pistons. Testeverde came back as a backup more than once. None of them retired then tried to force a trade or insist where they go.

As far as his latest "retirement", was it a retirement or a staged situation to get cut?

I do agree this is becoming his legacy.
