Re: Lead story on SportsCenter this morning: Brett Favre may return yet

I use to like Favre but now I hate him.

I honestly hope if he returns that in the first game he plays he is broken in half by two defensive line men from the opposing team. Just stay retired already dude.

Is there actually anything of substance here or are Glazer & co. just making stuff up?

No, the Steelers O-line the last 2 seasons has been THAT bad. And you'd be hard pressed to find a knowledgable Steelers fan or local beat writer who would say any different. The line straight up blows.

On a side note, Glazer is reporting that Lord Favre will yet be a Viking in the next couple weeks. He's got a big piece up at Fox Sports.

Ben wasn't "carried" by his running game at any point really. He's always been an awesome playmaker, and he's always had a knack for winning close games in the 4th quarter, ever since he was a rookie. The Steelers were a run-first team under Cowher, so what? Running the ball is part of the game. Should we knock Peyton Manning or Brady for the offensive talent surrounding them, too? Neither ever win a SB without their defenses either.

Last year Ben had no real running game. Mewelde Moore was his number 1 back for the majority of the season, they rarely ever got anything going on the ground. Ben DOES hold the ball too long, but don't let that confuse you with how bad his offensive line is. They're AWFUL at pass protection, truly awful. There's people in Ben's face 100% of the time. There isn't one good talent on his offensive line, they're all mostly second or third string guys who shouldn't even be starting.

The holding onto the ball goes both ways. Since while it does lead to some sacks other QB's wouldn't be taking, it also means he's not throwing INT's or making dumb throws, and sometimes leads to him extending plays and making key throws. Honestly, I doubt Peyton Manning would win 12 games playing behind that line. Maybe Brady could, since he's not as jittery when he gets pressured a lot. It's not easy to shake Ben, no matter how many times you hit him, hurt him, he always bounces back and takes it.

When they went to Ben's first SB, his running game was non-existent in the post season. Yet he played incredible. He bombed in the SB, but they never make it there without his play in the games leading up to it. His running game dies at times, yet he's always picked up the slack. I dare anyone to say his running game carried him last year.

I doubt Brady or Manning would even win 6 or 7 games behind that line, much less even finish out the season without injury. Many of Ben's plays that kept games alive happened after protection broke down and he was forced to shed sacks and move out of the pocket. He extended plays and made them on the run. Niether Brady or Manning are playmakers out of the pocket. Neither of them have shown the ability to shed sacks and extend plays that Ben has. If I had a team with a top notch line (like Brady has had since day 1 with the Patriots) i'd want a pocket passer like Brady, Brees, or Manning. But behind our pathetic line? Nobody in the league I'd rather have than Ben. And his numbers throwing from the pocket are actually very good as well.

No such thing as an easy/hard schedule, IMO. One of the most overrated things people(mainly the media)brings up in Football discussions.

Hate to jump in only to be a co-signer but catz is right. The offensive line is horrendous. Big Ben's value as a QB comes from his ability to make something out of nothing and he does that on a consistent basis.

Oh, and to address the thread topic, if Favre really does come back as some of the Vikings players are saying, I am going to be sick to my stomach. However, I won't be the slightest bit surprised.

Is anyone else getting annoyed of Brett Favre? For last few years he keeps people guessing. Just make up your mind already. Watch a week or 2 before the season starts I bet he is going to sign with a team. He just don't want to go to training camp or something. lazy geezer. he is a legend in his own right but F. Brett Favre. He is starting to annoy me.

^I second that notion. Seriously though, I don't hate the guy, but I tired of this back-and-forth with the speculation and what have you. If he's gonna sign, he should sign. If not, then y'know, not.

But we are trying to figure out if Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson will be starting at quarterback.

I am starting to dislike Brett Favre. Don't get me wrong he is a great player and all. He is one of the best QB's of all-time but all these games he is playing with the media and with teams is getting played out. Does he necessarily have to do this every year? I agree with Six. I use to like the guy but now I am starting to hate him. I knew he was coming back. It is obvious the old geezer is lazy and doesn't want to go to training camp. Watch a week or two before the regular season starts I bet you he will sign with a team. Like I said in the other thread. F. Brett Favre

At least Sage didn't throw any int's in the first pre-season game.

I kinda expected this...I just know that Brett wants to play, but he doesn't want to do training camp, so now he can just join the team after camp and get his way. The Vikes are hurting at QB, Brett can get away with whatever he wants.

I think it's overstated how much they're hurting at this point. Most people are judging Sage mostly from one horrible 4th qtr against the Colts last year. Outside of that his analysis is probably similar to Schaub's before he was given top dollar from Houston. There's more to go by with TJack but the end of the season is the last we've seen of him and it was a great indication of him moving forward.

Meanwhile, Sage looked pretty good in the first preseason game (TJack looked horrible imo). If he continues to play like that I don't see why he shouldn't be starting for this team. People just assume he won't but based on just that one horrible series? We'll see. I think the Vikings would be best served moving forward with what they've got at this point, unless we see a drastic step backwards in the next 2 weeks.
