Throw in the fact that he only has 4 TDs and all he's really used as is just an extension of the running game (not saying it's his fault or that he's bad at it). It is what it is.
Thank you. That's what I'm pointing out. The guy is the passing game's equivalent of the FB dive play. He keeps the D honest. But he's not the bread & butter, & the opponent isn't going to spend alot of time making sure they cover it.

If they are going to have a catergory for short yardage WR's, by all means, put him in. But the Pro Bowl isn't suppossed to vote on specialists. Its the best @ the position. Not the best @ a role. & Welker is by no means 10th, maybe not even 15th best, at the position.
Wow, that's a pro bowl invite should be by name only type of argument right there. Welker plays the position of a receiver does he not?

What's DeSean Jackson's "role" then? Big play receiver? Speedy deep threat?

You bring up FBs. What about Lorenzo Neal's role when he was a player? He wasn't the best ball carrying FB of his time so he shouldn't have been in? His "role" was to be a blocking back. He wasn't the most complete player at his "position" in his pro bowl seasons so he didn't deserve to go? Maybe we should just eliminate FBs from the pro-bowl roster because they are not the best running backs?

Pulling in Mariano Rivera - one of the best pitchers (regardless of "role") of all time hardly helps your argument. What an absurd apples to oranges statement comparing baseball's Rivera to football's Welker. That's a joke right there.

      Your arguments are losing steam.

Reggie Wayne, Vincent Jackson, and Brandon Marshall get covered by #1 CBs. The Dolphins regularly put a LB on Wes Welker. The guy simply doesn't deserve to be put in the same category as an actual WR. He plays the slot.

I would have put Jackson in over Marshall. 85% of his catches result in 1st downs and 17.2 YPC to Marshall's 11+.

I think Jackson deserved to get in as well but not at the cost of Marshall. Marshall had a QB throwing to him whose strong point is not throwing the ball down the field.

Marshall was tops in the league in receptions inside the opponents 20 yard line and 2nd inside the 10 yard line. He was also tied for 3rd in 4th quarter TD's. The guy was almost that team's entire offense and he consistently got open against the opponents #1 CB.

            Marshall deserves to be there.

Ya'll do know that the "best" players don't make the Pro Bowl team all the time right?

Welker is second in catches that go for first down (70), 1 behind Reggie Wayne (71).

He's the #3 WR on % Caught behind Mike Thomas 78.8% (51 targets) and Robert Meachem 78.2% (55 Targets). At 76.3% (160 Targets) he's 11th overall, but ahead of him are RB's who most often catch in the flats.

I have no problem with Wes Welker going to the Pro Bowl. He fits what New England does perfectly, and is succesful because of it.

If I were the coach of a team, would I rather have him or Vincent Jackson? I would take Jackson. But for something like the Pro Bowl? I have zero problem with him going.

I always liked Belichek's quote on why they got Welker. I'm paraphrasing here but it was something like "We went out and got the one guy we couldn't cover."

I mean, Joesph did intercept 3 more balls and all but, it would still be hard to vote against Champ.
I agree. It is debatable because Champ was having a great rebound year. I remember when Tony Romo challenged him, he showed everyone out there that he was still a dominate shutdown corner. I just thought that the bengal corners really had a breakout year and brought a bigger impact than Champ did this year. But yes. Either player could be qualified to make the pro bowl and it wasn't just Champ's name that allowed him to be in the pro bowl this year.

Clay Matthews will be replacing Bears LB Lance Briggs on the NFC Squad, according to Packersnews.com.

So that bumps our total to 4 we'll be sending to South Beach(Rodgers, Collins, Woodson, Matthews)

Now that Welker is out and randy is the reserve who does that put as the new reserve? I still don't exactly know how the Pro Bowl works with injuries and alternates and such.
