Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NFL today?

The homer in me says Davone Bess, Lousaka Polite, and Randy Starks. Bess caught 76 passes from the slot despite playing on a run first team without a real threat out wide to draw attention away from him. He'd be as productive as Wes Welker if he played in a system like the Pats'. Lousaka Polite's growth as a blocker is the reason why the Dolphins remained top 5 in rushing all year despite the loss of Ronnie Brown and interior line in flux. On top of his skills as a blocker, he was perfect at converting short yardage situations. Starks is a 3-4 DE so he'll never get much recognition. He was second in sacks among 3-4 DEs and was a force in the run game.

Fred Jackson is extremely underrated. That offensive line was one of the most injured in the league, but Jackson produced in every phase of the game. If Lynch gets his head on straight, those two will be a great tandem.

I was gonna say Jackson but it'd make me sound like a homer. That guy is gonna have a breakout year in 2010 if the O-Line stays healthy.

        Homer Pick: Jermichael Finley

Other Teams: I really liked what I saw out of Johnny Knox this year. I know he's made mistakes with route running a few times, but I feel like the kid has star potential. And that speed. Oh my god, the speed.

(In fairness, my love for speed might cover up other things he did wrong this year that I might not have seen. Lol.)

            None homer pick

I would say Frank Gore. He is the difference for the 49ers and I dont hear his name when they mention the best backs he very well may be the best in the league right now.

Some might disagree with this name, but Calvin Johnson is one of the best WR's I've ever seen.

He's not a household name, but he should be. If he had the support that other WR's have, no record would be safe.

Great pick. It's like Gore doesn't even play in the NFL, you NEVER hear about him (unless you live in the Bay area). Great RB.

Steven Jackson is another RB that is somewhat underrated, although you definitely hear his name in the media a good bit. Talk about a wasted career.

This is Garcon's first year as a starter and he has been talked about a lot.

I feel like I heard about Garcon more than I heard about Reggie Wayne this year.

That's probably partly because of how Wayne just goes about his business without ever speaking and he's been doing it for what seems like forever.

If Johnson played anywhere other then Detroit he'd be mentioned in the same breath as Moss, Marshall et al.
