Matt Jones became a decent possession receiver and nothing more. Last year he was pretty good at using his body and caught some short passes.

He never played anything close to that 4.37 speed and he never created any separation from CBs. Also, for a guy so tall and with so much athletic ability, he was pretty bad on the goalline and he rarely beat smaller corners on fade routes.

    Oh, and that drug issue....

Jones isn't suspended. It's just nobody wanted him. He's free to play if he finds a team that wants him.

You don't have to be "unknown" to be "underrated". I can see a case for Brandon Marshall and Ben Roethlisberger being "underrated".

Definitely not getting dragged down the tired path of "this guy did this but this guy did that so why aren't they punished equally". I will say that Michael Vick the football player has history and potential infinitely better than Matt Jones. I'm sure anyone else you were referring to there is better at what they do too.

Here's a life lesson though... don't do anything obviously incredibly stupid and you won't leave your future in the hands of others. Then there won't be any reason to wonder why your punishment appears worse than anyone else in any other situation. When you f up, you forfeit your right to worry about how the powers that be treat you.

These are based on pure talent and physical traits not necessarily stats.

Sidney Rice, Miles Austin, and Steve Smith (NYG) are going to challenge for position in my top 5.
i can actually clearly say reggie wayne is better than almost everyone on this list.

at the very, absolute least, he should have made your "honorable mention" section over sidney rice, miles austin and steve smith. he's a better wide receiver than brandon marshall, randy moss and calvin johnson at this point.

When you make posts like this, you may want to add that even though you're from Baltimore, you're a huge Colts fan.

That's fine, but it's crazy to think no team could have used him. If he was a colt this year from beginning to end, he would have been comfortably over 1000 yards with over 10TD's. The number of starts he had with the Jags, number of snaps and number of targets all make his stats pretty impressive imo. Say what you will, but when given the chance he produced on a team that's hard to get receiving stats on. While watching them it seemed like he had the biggest stats with the smallest play-time.

yes he did something stupid...but I say he is underrated because nobody thought to use him or that somehow he wouldn't benefit them. Many people don't see the value in him, hence him being underrated imo of course. He's fast, tall and long with good hands...as if no teams out there need a receiver like that.

ps. what'd vick do for the eagles this year? Jones would have made a bigger impact to the team than vick did.

that's fine...but it's indisputable to me anyway that he was the best receiver on the team and the stats indicate that, even more so when taking his play time into consideration relative to the others.

The drugs is an issue, at the same time as far as I'm aware and what I took away from it was that he was partying and wasn't/isn't and addiction type thing.

Anyway, do you really think the other receivers on the team were better...and his TD's were pretty good relative to the other guys as well. This is THE point of the thread though. I think he is underrated and obviously still is since no one wanted the jags #1 WR. There are teams out there that could have used him, he is above average WR in the NFL, yet he is underrated because no one wanted him.

The way you described him though indicates that, drug issue aside, that he isn't good enough which is BS imo.

On my team: Casey Hampton. Our whole defense revolves around this guy and his ability to manipulate blockers.

In the NFL: Jeff Saturday. Manning could not be Manning without the blocking calls and impeccable snap consistency of this guy.

True. It will be interesting to see if the Browns can get Clausen or Bradford in April's draft to remedy this.
