Come on now. We'll see how it plays out but no reason for cheap shots. If Rivers went down for the season I'd say your chances are done too. There's at least one player on every team that could drastically change predictions. I'd say it's safe to say he was that guy for the Broncos.

And before the thought that QBs don't count because their more important comes up, if Ray Lewis went down for the Ravens you can drastically downgrade them too, new offense and all. It's a pretty big blow to the broncos.

It wasn't a cheap shot. The Chargers lost Merriman for a year and they managed. They lost Jamaal Williams for the year and they still managed. They may not have Vincent Jackson and I imagine they will still manage.

If you have the talent in place at other positions you should withstand a big injury, except for QB, sorry.

Check the stats? Ok now that I know not to take you seriously keep embarrassing yourself. Always fun when a homer of one of the 2 or 3 worst organizations in the league decides to start beating his chest about how good his team is. If the Raiders had talent they'd have won more games. Russell was hardly their only problem.

Lol @ the Raiders are better but the Chargers aren't.

Or the evidence is there. Chargers went from 4-12 to 12-4 the last time the made a major overhaul, no different than the ones the Raiders are attempting to make. First time in years the raiders have even looked to fix the big holes in there run D.

Alright, alright enough with the arguing gents, let's just wait till the season starts before the smack talk starts. The Raiders have improved significantly but the Chargers are easily going to win the division. The broncos have a very slim chance, and the Chiefs have also improved as well. But anything is possible and all bets are off when it comes to the NFL so let's just wait and see.

The big difference in 2004 in the Chargers was a complete change in defensive scheme, philosophy and coaching staff, Antonio Gates became Antonio Gates, and Drew Brees became an All-Pro QB. Not to mention the 2004 Chargers had the best RB in the game at the time.

Likelihood Jason Campbell turns in to an all pro? Not likely. The Raiders have no one near a Top 5 or 10 RB in the league, they don't have any playmakers on the level of Anonio Gates, and their defense is still thin and lacks talent. I am not sure why anyone would think this Raider team is due for a huge jump. Although I am not sure why Raider fan would think Zack Miller is better than Antonio Gates either.

We have a top 5 corner on defense as well as DE .We have the best pure TE in the west ( he blocks and catches well as anyone). The RBs in the west are all unproven starters , T.Jones won't have that Jets line this go round IMO he'll get shelved like the last couple teams that had him. That's not including our less reported moves (coordinators ,LB ,DL ,OL. We might not win the division but we will out do your Chiefs for good. And with good coaching (like any good team) skies the limit.
For those that don't remember what I said the contrast was between Oakland and the Chiefs not Gates......Oakland 4 rings, Denver 2, Chagers 0, chiefs 0, in the end thats what counts ,so we will see this season

great you won 4 rings, last of which was when I was 11. I am now 39 years old.

Congrats on those titles 30 and 40 years ago, they really should help this team win games this year.

It's that kind of thinking as to why the Raiders have been irrelevant for the better part of a decade. Their owner and FO believes it's still 1974.

And no Miller does not catch the ball as well as Gates, he's not as good after the catch, and I'd like to know how you came to the conclusion he blocks better, because I am pretty sure you don't have the endzone coaching tapes which you would need to really make that evaluation. Not to mention a real understanding of that position and how it factors in to each offensive scheme. Which I am sure you don't.

and for the record I was a tight end in high school and college ,I do know enough about the position to know Gates is a long way off from being a Bavaro,Winslow,Casper,or Mackey

Great I played WR in college, and coached Wr's and TE's in college. What exactly does that even mean to this? Because you played it in HS and college doesn't mean you have any idea about that position at the next level.

As I stated unless you really understand that position, watched just about every offensive play on the coaches tape, and understood their roles in the run game in their offenses, there's no way to judge their blocking prowess.

Since when did Oakland have 4 Rings? I thought we had 3 super bowls under our belt. I have also learned that those don't mean jack squat in this time, until we win another one, we should be the last team talking smack. I am not trying to go against our own fans but you can't use those facts nowadays.

I knew you'd mention the QB. It is a very important position but some teams have players at other positions that are so dominant they contend without having a star QB. That's why I mentioned the Ravens. Losing Flacco wouldn't destroy the Ravens but losing Ray Lewis would. It happens to be the QB on the Chargers that has the most importance. Clearly more importance than Merriman, Jamaal and even LT. But we all know that Orton is not the key to the Broncos success. This lost is on par with the Chargers losing Rivers... especially since the Broncos chances of making the playoffs aren't as good as the Chargers to begin with.
