I don't see what makes people think Mario Williams would make a good 3-4 OLB, just because hes big an athletic?? Vernon Gholston is also big an athletic so that doesn't mean much (not comparing the two just saying being big an athletic doesn't guarantee anything). I think he can do it but I bet he prefers to be a 4-3 DE.

Re: what should your team do?
I'm not saying he'd be good in coverage, but from a pure pass rushing standpoint i'd think he'd be ok as a 3-4 OLBSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: what should your team do?
Does Mario really have to be a 3-4 OLB? People are just assuming he would, since he's such a good pass rusher. But for a guy of his size and dominance, he could probably be a damn effective 3-4 DE. He'd always command a double team. If you put a good OLB on his side, they're going to put up 15 sacks.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
You can't have a one dimensional player at OLB in a 3-4, the guy has to be at least competent in coverage. He has to be able to turn and run w/TE's, covers backs in the flat, etc.. If he can't that's a big problem.Last edited by coogrfan; 12-30-2010, 02:17 PM.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
Agreed, otherwise the QB can just attack whatever space that OLB is occupying. For example James Harrison is pretty good in coverage for an OLB not to mention a beast pass rusher.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
Not sure Wade's 3-4 would be a good fit in Houston given the players they currently have. The last thing they need is a situation like what exists in Washington where square pegs are being plugged into round holes.
If Kubiak does survive by virtue of getting a new defensive coordinator, then next year is obviously his last chance. I can understand Houston's hesitance to can him given how successful they've been offensively with his system in place, however.Comment

Yeah the biggest ? really doesn't regard Mario they would need a good NT,etc.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: what should your team do?
This could be a homer statement, but they could draft Chris Neild from WVU. He played NT in the 3-3-5 and absolutely ate up blockers. I could really see him thriving in a 3-4 defense.LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!
Carolina Panthers 2010 record 2 - 14. With the 1st pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select (insert player name here).

Re: what should your team do?
It's like that for everyone in the front seven for a 3-4, though. Even if he's playing DE or NT, he's going to be dropping back in coverage on some blitzes. I would think if he had an off season of work at it, he could be competent, since he's an elite talent.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
Possibly, although imo that's a lot to ask of a near 300lb DE.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
This. Just look at Aaron Kampman. He was terrible as a 3-4 OLB last season before he was injured.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
I say we do the unpopular thing and hit up free agencey for some WR and OL help. There will be a lot of WRs in the draft but considering how we played this year we may not be up for waiting a few years for one to develop. There are a ton of viable free agent WR Ochocinco, Braylon edwards, Santonio Holmes, Mike Sims Walker, etc. A big target like Edwards could be exactly what Cutler needs/wants. Ol help is another matter. We need a gaurd and left tackle, at a minimum, although this group has played sooo much better the last few weeks. But i say we adress need in FA and then draft the best defensive player with our first pick. then alternate OL, WR, OL, DB, OL... best available afterward.Comment

Re: what should your team do?
Jerruh's list....
1. Do not hire Jason Garrett.
Ray Lewis once said we have the most simplest offense
in the NFL. The Ravens game 2 years ago Lewis knew
every tendency, every audible.
We were dominated for almost 3 quarters..
We came back in that game because of Tony Romo's
scrambling. This offense is all Tony Romo. Plays would
break down, he would scramble, make a play and Garrett
got all the credit...
What Garrett did these past few weeks, only shows
how bad a head coach Wade was. Any good coach
will install discipline. You don't have to be a hard ***
just consistent.
2. If they are sticking to the 3-4. Draft some Big body's
Draft a NT, (350lbs +) Pick up a Free Agent Nose to rotate in.
IE Pat Williams. He did it in Buffalo...Keep Spears,
Move Ratliff to DE.
3. Trade Barber, make Choice the starter, sprinkle Jones in.
Jones is actually better as a compliment back. He
is not durable, and tires really fast. When you limit
his carries, he is explosive.
4. Hamlin might not have made plays, but he always
lined us up correctly. Sensebaugh and Hamlin
worked well together. I'd say Keep Sensebaugh.
Cut Allan Ball or move him to a back-up corner role.
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah might develop into a nice FS.
Maybe move Newman to Free Safety
5. When you hire Head Coach, let him hire his Offensive Coordinator.
Establish an identity on offense. I am so tired of the Garrett
Regime. His play calling flat out sucks
6. Hire real GM.Last edited by adriano; 01-01-2011, 05:41 AM.Comment

Cowboys:
Cowboys need a new owner/GM. Jerry doesn't have the patience to be a GM. He goes with the sexy instead with what is needed. How can any GM go into the season with our kicker and safeties?
I am tired of Dallas having all this talent when I cbs can't perform in our scheme.
We need some depth at OL and Ball should never step on the field again for any team at Safety.Comment
