Re: The Peyton Manning Discussion thread

I wonder what the Broncos have done to impress Manning with if they're indeed the favorites. The Broncos actually have a defense that can play well at times and they've got some good personnel on offense....Hm, this might actually be a good spot for Peyton come to think of it.

I think a lot of it has to do with being around Elway and Fox. Seems like they would be a pretty good group to work with.

Not to mention that Bronco fans are great. Starving fanbase, Manning is the closest thing they'll ever get to an Elway again, good place to live, winning tradition, etc. Fox is a mellow guy, Peyton is fiery and can be the general while Fox hangs in the background not doing much.

Denver also has close to 50 mil in cap space. So, they could get some of the other former Colts players(Wayne, Clark, etc). Not a difficult division, unless SD starts and stays hot.

I obviously wouldn't want him to end up in Denver, but everything kehlis & Matrix says makes sense and rings true.

Probably his best bet right about now would be Denver.

John Lynch and Brandon Stokely came out to visit at some point while he was here. Helps having a well respected owner and a guy running the organization that knows what a QB wants.

Of the 3 teams, Broncos have the most money to play with (Miami I think was only a few million off). I wouldn't be opposed to them signing some players like Dallas Clark and Jeff Saturday for him to be comfortable. JD Walton can sit a year and learn.

Here's a little breakdown of Manning and his visits

Neither Denver or Arizona officials discussed contract during Manning's visit, on Peyton's orders. Manning let the Broncos and Cardinals know that he didn't want to talk money without his agent Tom Condon along.
And Manning didn't want to bring his agent because he was more interested in other aspects of the organization. He wanted to become familiar with the people he would playing for. And the team's facility.

As Manning was introduced to various people in the Broncos' headquarters, he always repeated the person's first name, and then said his full name. Like: "Nice to meet ya, Jim. I'm Peyton Manning." As if the person didn't know.

The Cardinals took more of red-carpet approach to Manning's visit Saturday night and Sunday. The Broncos took a more laid-back approach. After a nearly a six-hour visit at the team's headquarters Friday, Elway, Fox, and Manning went out for about a 2 ½ hour dinner at Cherry Hills Country Club.

Former Broncos' John Lynch and Brandon Stokley, who was also a former teammate with Manning in Indianapolis, also stopped by, as did the team's director of personnel Matt Russell.

I would definitely try to sign Dallas Clark and Saturday too. And I'd draft OL as well.

TE was a huge problem for Denver last year. Couldn't get a security blanket for Tebow.

                        To expand:

                        1) solid running game
                        2) a good defense
                        3) a playoff team with a major ? At QB
                        4) good fan base and city (Tebowmaniacs are not Broncos fans)
                        5) a young team that is starting to win, not a franchise that needs to be blown up.
                        6,7,8) John Elway
                        9) A player's head coach who will do what it takes to win.
                        10) one of the most respected owners in the league who has tons of cap space available

Yea I forgot about that. I read somewhere the Elway told him they would be more than happy to court some of his teammates which also has to be appealing to him.

Of the three I would go after Clark and Saturday and if Wayne is willing to sign an incentive laden deal I'd grab him too.

Plus, Peyton Manning is pretty much the only guy that the Broncos could get that could give them an "out" from the Tebow stuff. The excitement over Peyton will make people forget all about him, and allow them to move him to FB or try him at TE or whatever.

If Manning signs with Denver, what do they do with Tebow?

                              Trade him to Jacksonville?

Sounds like they will just trade him.

But you're right, he's the only guy they can bring in as QB and not have the fans start an uproar about removing Tebow.
