Peyton will make $18M in 2012 without injury protection to Broncos. Passing March 2013 physical will activate $40M gtee w/a waiver.

      @adbrant:

      Manning contract: 2012: 18M 2013-2014: 40M w/waiver on neck 2015: 19M 2016: 19M trying to find out more on waiver

Peyton will make $18M in 2012 without injury protection to Broncos. Passing March 2013 physical will activate $40M gtee w/a waiver.
So there is language in the contract designed to protect the Broncos.

Whoa, 5 years, $96 Million?! Can we get a word from you, Mr. Adams, on Peyton's new deal?

Okay, how about you, Tim? How do you feel about Peyton's new... Tim... Tim???

Okay, well, Peyton how do you feel?

100 % agree. That's worth breaking the bank over.

Manning could have had an advantage with any of the three clubs that wanted him.

But of those 3, the Broncos needed Manning the most, and a big part of that is the reasoning above.

Will Peyton even survive 2 years out of the 5 years he has on his contract?

With what has been done to Peyton's neck, it'll actually be stronger than before. The trade-off is that he'll have slightly reduced range of motion.

I'll be optimistic and say Manning will play 3 years and get 1 ring.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

On offense he has an above-average to good offensive line that specializes in the run game. His "weapons" on offense consist of interchangeable RBs and WR's & TE's who have unloaded their best options in the last season (Lloyd & Royal). Most importantly, they are very CAP strapped and the inclusion of Manning on the roster will make it more so.

I believe the 49ers were the best fit, but I'm sure a lot of why that didn't work had to do with philosophy and coaching. I didn't foresee Harbaugh making too many changes to his offense to appease Manning - and why should he, his system is proven. The 49ers also had more talent in terms of the defense, a young, blue-chip Offensive Line, a workhorse RB, an elite TE, and WRs with lots of upside - not to mention Randy Moss who I feel would have played hard for Manning for at least one season. I also think Peyton took the "cowardly" way out by not wanting to compete with Eli or other QBs in the NFC. You're a competitor, you're supposed to be one of the greatest QBs in NFL history, and your goal is to win a SB and not worry about what your lil'brother (who mind you already has 2 SB rings) is doing.
Outside of the inaccuracies on the cap number and talent (since when is Royal one of their top WRs? He wasn't even when Thomas was still rehabbing), I'm trying to figure out the "cowardly" way out comment.

So basically your entire post is about how Peyton went to a team worse than the one that would've been built around him in SF, but that's taking the "cowardly" way out? You think he'll have to work harder to win as a Bronco but that's "cowardly" because he doesn't want to face NFC QBs?

                  Huh?

Football is part of the decision making process, I'm sure there were other factors including family that was part of the decision.

Is this a guarantee, especially at 36?

If he was 26, I MIGHT be able to side with that point but anytime you have MAJOR surgery or surgeries once you're on the other side of 30, they usually don't make the player any better than what he was before.

I hope this move works out for you guys. I just don't wanna see where everything is fine for the first few weeks and then next you know, you start seeing stories leaking out about "Manning meeting with Doctors to check out Neck" or "Manning needs painkilling injection to deal with Neck pain" because at that point, it's just a matter of time before it gets worse and worse.

Interview coming up, NFLN said they plan on talking to Manning after the press conference. Orange jersey looks real nice too.
